Installed my SBD turbo kit today (pics)

I realize this isn't a new kit or anything, but I thought it would be nice to have more close up pictures of the kit and the fitment. I also changed a few little things, for looks mainly and to help combat the heat. Ive got a drift armor front crash bar coming in soon to help with airflow, and I have some ideas about the front grill I want to try.

Install took about 8 hours, with my buddy Chris giving me a hand. This also includes pulling the manifold to clamp the lines, cutting the bumper beam, and a short burrito break. The fitment is great, and even after guessing where to mount the BOV(had the flange welded on the day before) it fit nicely.

It's hotter than when I initially did my install and I haven't put much into extra heat management except an Apr cooling plate.

I will cost my piping tho. Looks great!

Lonewolf 05-25-2014 07:27 PM

Looking forward to numbers/impressions after the tune...

Boss Paco 05-25-2014 11:16 PM

Did you not upload the base map? I've been running the map SBD ships for months now. I'll get a custom tune when I swap to flex fuel.

I should get on that now! :D

I'm going a little different direction with the tune. I will be hoping for results by Friday.

The part that makes it look cheaper to me, is the filter. Other then that, I upgraded all the clamps to t-bolt because I don't trust the other style, but the rest of the kit is actually well made for the price. And its made in Taiwan.

Psst, did you know your car is made by non-americans to?

Op makes a great post, with detailed pics and an honest impression, and this is the shit you post. If you have something against products made in other countries, save that shit for when you're not posting something that is visible to the entire world.

Made some good progress man! Let me know when you get our catch can and how it looks:thumbsup:

mike the snake 05-26-2014 06:34 PM

Looks awesome! I can't wait to see what numbers you get.

I'm thinking of making custom intercooler piping for my FB kit similar to your setup. much cleaner.

Oic. I think I know... :thanks:

I felt the same about my clamps but with such low boost pressure it hasn't been an issue. When I coat the ic piping I'll switch to tbolts. Can't wait to see your results!

spdbydesign 05-27-2014 04:48 PM

Excellent news man!

Yes, the kit is made in Taiwan. Zage also produces kits for the majority of the JDM vendors, as is among the largest turbo kit manufacturers in the world.

The kit is an incredible value for the money, and is sold for a significantly higher price tag in other areas of the world.

In the USA, we have created a very aggressive pricing structure for the North American market.

Enjoy the kit!

Chris

Big announcement regarding the tuning coming next week.

I've been fighting the urge to unveil the information, but very good things in store!

My guess would be a Shiv OFT tune option. It kind of goes along with the budgetness of this turbo kit.

Ecutek has proven to be a solid performer, but we're interested in providing support on as many programming platforms as possible.

I want our customers to have options and the OFT has been a very well reviewed tuning solution.

Shiv's tunes are very good. His base of users is growing. It allows people to get a tuning platform that gives them good N/A maps plus room for other kits as Shiv brings them onboard. So for people who already have the OFT + this kit = very low entry into the the FI world. Win win for each company. BTW SBD, Please come up with alternate piping so the OEM crash beam stays or only needs to be just slightly trimmed. Otherwise I really do like your kit. Very well put together :respekt:

glorydays 05-31-2014 08:27 PM

Love how short the piping is. Good stuff here.

mike the snake 05-31-2014 09:30 PM

I had a Vishnu Proceed tune on my BMW 135i, and I LOVED it!

If the newest stuff from them had supported meth injection I would have gone with their product.

There is always a solution for the crash beam.

My car is a dd. I will not replace the oem. I will not sacrifice my safety. I think they could do this fairly easily.

If it really fits the SBD kit, I'll put it on my shopping list. Please show some photos to confirm fitment.

spdbydesign 06-01-2014 09:14 AM

The BeatRush does NOT fit, as we have test fit it in-house.

However, the Drift Armor does fit ;)

At only $150, it's a no-brainer when buying this kit.

Oops my mistake, Beatrush does not fit.

I was pretty certain that Paco had the Beatrush beam installed with the turbo kit but had to remove it after the oil cooler installed.

Must be losing my mind
