The Curse, Only 2 Days Old

Last Sunday got my brand new FRS, never been involved in any accident in my life. Tuesday afternoon was leaving work and a van backed straight into me. Left a deep scratch and 3 dents on the front bumper (passenger side) and pushed the fender out of alignment. Both the bumper and fender are getting replaced next Tuesday.

Luckily, she was at fault and her insurance will be covering the damage in full. Don't know what I'm going to do while it's gone though, said it'll take 3 days to repair. I'm so bummed :(

It will be back! Loneliness makes the heart grow fonder.

The wait sucks but at least it wasn't a hit and run :s

Lol I like how everyone responded with encouragement to start modding the car :slap:

Condolences on your tragedy, I had someone rear end me a few months ago, luckily it was at a low speed and there wasn't any paint traded or dents or scratches.

DarkSunrise 05-22-2014 03:27 PM

Nearly the exact same thing happened to me two days after I bought a new car (not the FR-S). Driver of an SUV backed up into me. I've been there, definitely sucks. :(

Hang in there. Try to argue dimished value with your insurance.

suaveflooder 05-22-2014 03:39 PM

This happened to me monday night. Lady came into my lane and hit the car. I'm hoping to get it back tomorrow. If not, I was told tuesday.

Sometimes it really makes you wonder. I haven't had an accident in more than 23 years. And at least for the last 15 years, I drive around 20,000~25,000 miles a year. Last summer when I first bought my FR-S, on the 2nd or 3rd day I had my car, I had to take emergency action twice in less than 20 minutes while driving home from work. Once by standing on the brakes and once by swerving and almost putting the car into the median--on both occasions because somebody just wasn't looking and almost broadsided me. In both cases they subsequently occupied the space that was formally occupied by my car, less than a second before, and continued on, completely oblivious. Maybe I should have gotten a color that stands out more, instead of Firestorm. :iono:

A low profile car like the FR-S is less visible to other drivers, particularly those using pick-ups or SUV's. Be especially cautious when following behind or slightly to the side of a larger vehicle. Be hyper cautious if you are ever in a situation where a large vehicle may back up without noticing you.

When I had my 1990 Celica GTS I was at a light behind a van. Dude decides he wants to make a right turn so he back up so he can move to the right line.

I was behind him I saw his reverse lights come on but I could not get in reverse fast enough, he backed up right into my hood with his bumper :(

He said he didn't even see me behind him, lesson learned for me.

Anytime I am near big SUV cars on the road or cars I have noticed changing lanes without there blinker I honk my horn when close to them just so they know I'm there. LA is terrible for this with people changing lanes without looking anywhere but forward. Any little bit of help to get these ass hats out of there bubble world and paying attention to the road the better.

People dont use there horn enough to warn other drivers. Then again not everyone pays attention to you using it, better than nothing.

For sure. I had an SUV start to back into me slowly while standing in parking lot traffic, had to honk before they realized I was behind them.

To their further discredit, there was plenty of traffic in that lot, so even if they didn't see me, I'm not sure at all why they'd start backing out when there are other visible cars moving around within hitting distance.

AVodka14 05-22-2014 06:59 PM

I plowed a hay bail on the interstate doing 80 mph. First time for me in a car. Just doesn't equate to your situation. Only 2 days go by....sheesh.

dreroc-z 05-22-2014 09:48 PM

I understand vans and bigger trucks but I feel like nobody actually turns their head and looks through their back window while backing up. I watch so many people only use their mirrors and its kind dumb...I guess they think they can just wing it every time.

reni 05-22-2014 10:37 PM

Most large SUV/pickup drivers think they are invincible, so they mostly just don't bother looking thoroughly before changing direction.

If I ever win the powerball, I'm gonna buy an F650 conversion and "accidentally" drift into the lanes of regular SUVs to see how they like it for a change.

Everybody is too busy talking or texting on their phones to notice what is around them while driving. It is so inconvenient to have to pay attention!

AARON691983 05-23-2014 12:33 AM

A Dumb lady did the exact same thing to me the 2nd week after i got my car!! Her dumbass backed into me at the mall parking lot but whoever I let it go since she looked broke and her daughter was with her all scared. Also it won't matter since in getting the v2 rocket bunny kit and the factory bumper with come off anyway :) btw you can't tell I was hit but I know since there's a small line on the from bumper.

Ronin Sascha 05-23-2014 11:15 AM

Yeah you'd think people would be extra cautious and do more than just quickly glance at their mirrors before backing up. Especially because we were in a very tight parking lot, not to mention a private school parking lot with young children all over. I saw her coming hit my brakes slammed on my horn but she didn't even hear me, guess it was more important to have her radio turned up.

I'll post pics in a bit. Damage is kind of hard to see in them though. You honestly couldn't even notice I was hit unless you looked directly at the spot in the bumper where the scratch is. But then you'd see the dents and how the fender is off alignment.

At least it's small cosmetic damage and it's only a 3-day turnaround. Could have been a LOT worse. Some horror stories go on about being in the body shop for months.

Ronin Sascha 05-23-2014 11:26 AM

Yeah definitely could have been a lot worse

I was sitting in my buddy's red MR2 in a left-turn lane and he was explaining that he'd been hit twice so far because his car was so low. And then a gal hit us from behind.

Sarlacc 05-23-2014 06:42 PM

A guy in a Volvo XC90 backed into my 86 in a garage. Had the front bumper and right headlight, turn signal and fog light replaced. His insurance covered it plus a rental while my car was in the shop.
These things happens all the time, nothing to get all worked up about as long as no one gets hurt.

Dusty 05-23-2014 09:59 PM

7 days.

I came out to the parking lot and almost had a heart attack. The dealership fixed it up nicely. New bumper, new headlight, new fender, new side marker light. Blended the paint into the door. Re-painted pinstripe matches perfectly. You can't even tell.

The Curse, Only 2 Days Old

Well the curse continues, my moms car was in a minor accident today in her brand new VW Jetta, 2 weeks old. No major damage just a small dent and decent size scratch in the rear bumper.

Make sure her insurance also covers depreciated value.

If this goes on a Carfax, you're gonna drop 2-3K at re-sale for this nonsense.

Ronin Sascha 06-06-2014 11:48 AM

Finally got my car back! Everything seems to be back to perfect. The only thing I'm slightly dissatisfied with is the front fender and hood still do not line up perfectly. That being said unless you get down close to it and really examine it, it's so small you could really never tell so i don't think I'll do anything about it.

On a side note the lady who hit me had the nerve to park next to me at work yesterday! I literally parked on the complete opposite side of the lot so that would not happen too.
