I don't want to drill holes into my front bumper :s

QLD Rules-
http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Registrati...er-plates.aspx

Quote:

Number plates

If you drive on Queensland roads, your vehicle must be fitted with official number plates. It's the law.

Legally, the characters on the number plate must be visible from 20 metres (m) away at any point within an arc of 45 degrees from the surface of the plate, above or to either side of the vehicle. Number plates must be permanently attached to a vehicle so that when it is on level ground the plates are upright, horizontal, and not more than 1.3 m above the ground.

Number plates also help to identify your vehicle and the person responsible for it in cases of a crash or theft – they can also help in the recovery of your vehicle if stolen.

It is your responsibility to ensure your number plates are kept in good condition. You can be fined up to A$320 for not replacing damaged or illegible number plates.
I don't see how this doesn't apply.

the plate position doesnt bother me, they have to be on the car. whats wrong with the middle?

davey90 05-20-2012 11:06 PM

I don't live in QLD, but in NSW I have seen utes and some cars (rarely seen) have number plates on one side at the front of the car, as long as it doesn't stick out to the side too much like a saw thumb then i guess you'll be right, I've seen some tuner cars, my old neighbour that moved out was a tuner for his 200sx he was on HOT4s magazine once really old issue. He had his number plates on the side front bar of his car because he had no where to stick the plates and like you, he didn't want to pop holes in the front bar it'll ruin his air brushed art on the car.

you'll be right!

the plate holder seems to come fitted from Japan so you will have holes on the bumper.

the picture my friend took at the port has the front plate holder fitted.

for me if there are holes already, i can't be bothered. i'll take out the holder for a cleaner look since my plates are slimline.

Gir 05-21-2012 12:13 AM

Wow it looks silly off to the side... I would just stick with the middle.

Staticfrost 05-21-2012 12:38 AM

If it has a holder i will have to do it... but if it had no older i didn't want to drill holes.

BigM 05-21-2012 03:15 AM

Ricer fail :P

One of the Evo's (6 or 7 maybe?) did it because of the way the bumper was designed and having it in the middle would have blocked the intercooler a bit, ever since seems to have been the most hektic way to have your number plate...

FT-86GOD 05-21-2012 07:08 AM

anywhere clearly displayed on bumper is acceptable

Varvs 05-21-2012 08:52 PM

Why? youre going to have holes in the bumper where the original mounts were and there is no performance benefit to do so.

cars the have it from the factory have it because theres not enough space to mount or it blocks the intercooler. this car has neither of those issues.

Judging from the pictures i had seen there were no holders... but this has been confirmed that there is for Australian model :'( so i will be using the supplied mount now.

i'm planning to take off the holder and mount the plate directly on the bumper for a cleaner look (if the holes match up).

Yes if it can be removed :S...

Nardi330 05-21-2012 10:00 PM

it can. according to the TRD front lip instruction.

Nafe 05-21-2012 11:14 PM

I am with the "who cares, it doesn't add performance" way of thinking. Stock position is fine.
Rates as highly as calling debadging a "mod" IMO

I personally dislike having the number plate on the side. I like the symmetry of it being in the middle :D

symmetry is the best. Except if the number plate was in front of an intercooler.

All aust 86's will be drilled already. I will be surprised if anyone can get their car without the drill holes anyway.

Dealer has confirmed that there is a number plate bracket on the front of the car!?!?! :S I asked can I have it without that!?!?! He said it's standard and attached during build process :S

Nardi330 05-22-2012 02:01 AM

the first pic showed the plate holder:

sho 05-22-2012 02:32 AM

i thought it would of been done here by either the dealer or patrick auto care?
I can't recall if it was done by the dealer or PAC when I got my golf R but you could of advise the dealer/salesman not to install the bracket that makes 2 oversized holes out of the bumper

Nardi330 05-22-2012 02:49 AM

it looks like the plate holder is same as the one for Japanese market so i'd think they were fitted on the production line.

sho 05-22-2012 02:53 AM

owells.. at least its not one of those big chunky ones i guess :)

Jeff Lange 05-22-2012 02:56 AM

Toyotas for the Japanese market have the holes drilled/plate holder installed at the factory, while for other markets the bracket is installed at the dealer. I've noticed this when ordering Japanese-market bumpers for people and they come pre-drilled versus USA/Canada market bumpers that do not come drilled.

Sounds like Australia-destination cars may be getting it done at the factory.

:(
