No worries. Wanted to make it clickable.

lazyluka 05-20-2014 04:48 PM

Hope they toss it on the dyno in a few 100 miles, that should yield some nice figures with that kind of break in :)

fang_gt86 05-20-2014 05:14 PM

I missed a few of these procedures during my break-in...

Are you suggesting that breaking in a certain way reduces HP/torque output?

Zardoman 05-21-2014 12:37 AM

good thing he's not selling it anytime soon, i hope?

ZionsWrath 05-21-2014 12:40 AM

I hear crickets at the end

I'm suggesting that the car loves a thrashing for a break in. I have broken in two of them now. One by the book and one a bit more subtle than above.

Thrashing it during break in makes the car feel faster and more responsive down the line.

Not sure how good it is for the engine in the long run, but it does produce results.

Nevermore 05-21-2014 10:17 PM

This is pretty cool because it shows how much the car is capable of right out of the box. And it's pretty crazy.

Autocon 05-21-2014 10:27 PM

Now that should be the Epic FRS commercial and not that god awful trash explosion laden one Scion made.

ZOMFGAARON 05-21-2014 10:32 PM

Why dont I believe this?
Maybe it's because he has plates with tags on them. Do some states provide these at purchase

I hate those commercials so much. I don't get why they needed to advertise in such a terrible way it degrades the coolness of the car in my opinion. Just another reason I'm glad I chose the BRZ...

I've always transferred old plates to the new car and then updated the registration. Not sure if that's what you meant?

Although I agree; it looks like just a stunt. Fun though!

butt dyno? I'm not an "break-in" expert but trashing a car during breakup could possibly cause blow-by as the rings are still seating in the cylinder bore and you are putting them under maximum pressure - thus maybe contaminating your oil..and that isn't good. But I guess the thinking behind it is that the rings still seal better, a compression test could show the difference better than a dyno.

Also your brand new gears in the tranny and diff are also breaking it. But hey, it's your car and only my opinion.

Ah never thought of that!
No I meant in some states do they issue plates for you as soon as you buy the car but what you're saying makes much more sense.

Like I said no guarantee it's good for the engine, but there are about 4 or 5 86's here in NZ (that I know of) that were thrashed from day 1.

Anyone (who followed the normal break in) that jumps into one of these for a drive is instantly amazed how much more responsive and gruntier they are.

Even way down the line (10,000km+).

Just my opinion at the end of the day. :P

slava 05-23-2014 02:24 AM

Lol. This is not a stunt dudes.

ilpad 05-23-2014 05:21 AM

In many states (MD being one of them), the dealership provides you your license plates at time of purchase. I never had to step foot in a DMV to get my license plates (thank god).

chiefshayan 05-23-2014 02:32 PM

Wonder if it was a manual or had the man pedal delete

LXXXV1 05-23-2014 04:30 PM

Am I the only one who is amazed how well it did with the crappy low octane gas from the dealer

BRZ? 05-25-2014 09:35 AM

The key is lots of high RPM loading and vacuum!!!

nickmerronesucks 05-25-2014 04:11 PM

he lives a few blocks from me.. haha

solus 05-25-2014 04:15 PM

LIAR! he has plates on it... so unless it sat for a few weeks, he definitely did not not have 63 miles on it when he did that

Depends on the state. I pulled the plates off my trade-in and threw them right on my FR-S. Left the dealer with my plates on.

You are mistaken in your first part. In fact, before the car leaves the factory assembly line, it is put onto a dyno and immediately driven to redline to ensure that power figures are acceptable before it is shipped out. Also, any experienced engine builder will tell you that in order for your rings to sit properly, a gentle break-in, is NOT advisable as the pressure will force the rings OUTWARD and seal better.

The transmission is a different story, however. The gears and synchros aren't the concern so much as the clutch. After any clutch replacement, 500 miles is the general rule of thumb to go easy on it.

MVLSCROWNZ 05-28-2014 06:30 PM
