Where would you be without a Toyubaru?

Where would y'all be if you had never found a scion fr-s/ subaru brz/ toyota ft86?

I would personally be stuck in a 2009 mitsubishi lancer gts that I was not happy with and would have cost so much money to get the same enjoyment by just switching platforms...

BrianJ 05-19-2014 02:20 PM

I would've either stayed with my chevy sonic turbo 6mt which I was getting 42 or so mpg. Or I would've gotten a fiesta or focus ST.

kalamitykode 05-19-2014 02:20 PM

I'd still be driving my 2008 Mazda 3. It was a cool car I guess, but it was falling apart and was not nearly fast enough for my taste. May have been saving for a 370Z or something similar.

strat61caster 05-19-2014 02:23 PM

Probably an RX-7 or 911 or Abarth.

ashtray 05-19-2014 02:26 PM

I wouldn't have sold my mint condition, low mileage, tastefully modified NA Miata. :(

I had been itching to get a coupe though and put my WRX in reserve use, so I might have bought a new Boss 302 Mustang instead though I'm much happier with the payments on the BRZ.

Probably would have skipped buying the 450hp E39 if my DD was pushing over 400 - so the Boss might have been cheaper overall.

Reaper 05-19-2014 02:26 PM

V8 miata

TEXAS_LE 05-19-2014 02:28 PM

I would probably in a STI as that is the car I was at the dealership buying in till I test drove the BRZ and I fell in love with the way it felt handling wise over the STI, not to mention the mpg advantage and lower price and etc. Im going to get an STI one day but damn it is a choice I am glad I made every time I look at the car

NIN69 05-19-2014 02:30 PM

Would still have my fully loaded 2004 Celica GTS with OEM aero kit and spoiler. We had a great run for 10 years but I fell in love when I test drove the 2014 Monogram FRS.

husker741 05-19-2014 02:30 PM

A Lexus IS or maybe a Supra.

ihaskrayon 05-19-2014 02:33 PM

I think I would have gotten the STi, but may have opted for a WRX just because I don't really need the STi.

In all honesty, There aren't very many new cars that peak my interest these days. Almost everything is bland and boring...or automatic. I'm also not really a fan of used sports cars, people tend to drive sports cars like they are one.

noodleface 05-19-2014 02:37 PM

Most likely still in my 2010 WRX hatch.

mjh712 05-19-2014 02:42 PM

Probably a 350Z, 370Z, Genesis Coupe, older WRX Sedan (still might happen, damn snow), A4, or Accord (what I had on lease before I bought my BRZ)

Chauntalei 05-19-2014 02:45 PM

C5 Z06. I'd be getting the same mpg, but with 2x the horsepower behind it.

BlueDubbinTDI 05-19-2014 02:46 PM

GTI or Cooper S.

But you'd be driving a Vette.... :barf:

It's like they say, there's no replacement for displacement. I'll take a huge V8 anyday.

Especially because I can pick up an 01-02 C5 Z06 for only 18k roughly. If you're looking at raw power for cheap, it's one of the best options if you're ok with buying used.

TM 05-19-2014 02:57 PM

Before I tested drove a BRZ, I was looking into a used 350z. I used to belong to the school of thought where buying a new car is an absolute horrible financial decision. Still do actually, but after I test drove a twin, I didn't care how bad of a decision it was and purchased one within 2 weeks. Would've probably bought one sooner if I wasn't traveling right after I test drove the twins

I'd still be getting 8mpg in this

SHOspazz92 05-19-2014 03:02 PM

I'd still be driving my 2004 STI.

Createddeleted 05-19-2014 03:13 PM

Would still be in my r56 cooper S 2013

SirBrass 05-19-2014 03:14 PM

I'd still be driving my gas-guzzling STI.

Khazzy 05-19-2014 03:32 PM

Either in a 2015 WRX or in a 99 Integra DB8 still.

I love that turbo badge lol

STV3 05-19-2014 03:36 PM

Probably would still be daily driving my Neon

the 2015 WRX wouldn't be the same vehicle w/o the twins

As far as me, I'd probably be in a Z.

Pseud0logik 05-19-2014 04:07 PM

If the twins didnt exist... I'd still be in my '08 Mazdaspeed3 and contemplating a new WRX. No regrets. I'm never selling my FR-S.

lastexile1987 05-20-2014 06:15 PM

Glad to see so many people so happy about getting their twins!!

Weird to see some people sound disappointed with their decision.

Guess this thread would have been better with a poll of satisfaction or something

tahdizzle 05-20-2014 06:19 PM

Just and FYI, there is already a thread like this.

mav1178 05-20-2014 06:26 PM

I would build 3x S13s with the money I've spent on a single BRZ.

spitz 05-20-2014 08:19 PM

Probably broken down on the side of the road in one of my vintage cars, listed in my signature.

robot 05-21-2014 02:48 AM

I miss my miata. I sold it to move across country...because paying 1/4 of a car's value to ship it is a dumb idea.

I'd probably be still in my money pit e36 m3 trying to convince my wife that buying an sti is a good idea (financially buying a new one was possible but an uncomfortable stretch. Buying a used one didn't work because I convinced my wife that swapping cars was a good idea based on the amount of money that was monthly being spent on the e36...about $250....averaged over 1.5 years). The funny thing is we are having a second kid and I'm going to daily the brz with two child seats. Life is interesting like that.

I also agreed to not mod this car much while it still has payments. I regret this a little since I enjoy tinkering. Also unlike an NA miata or an old e36 I don't beat on this car and feel bad every time it loses more of its pristine newness. I did take it to the track though and I've autocrossed it a few times.

hmong337 05-21-2014 03:24 AM

Likely would've turned my MR2 into a 600whp, 2600lbs, fire breathing street slayer.

Prog 05-21-2014 10:44 AM

I'd probably still be rattle-free in my Camaro () and my '93 240sx...though I may have sold the 240sx anyway. Not really sure.

That's fine. People seem to be enjoying themselves in this thread too...

iAgui 05-22-2014 08:45 PM

I came from a 2011 Nissan Versa Hatch with a CVT transmission.

Very boring car to drive. Didn't feel responsive at all, and the CVT made it even worse. It felt more like and appliance and less like a car. The worst part was that I was getting worse MPG than I am getting now that I have 70 more horses pushing me around town..

_______ 05-22-2014 09:14 PM

Either my old RSX or a 2013 WRX

I feel you there. Currently driving a 89 Camaro with a 5.7 in it and sometimes I wish I had something a little lighter (hence the future FR-S). The torque is amazing though :burnrubber: and the sound never really gets boring.

If I wasn't planning to purchase an FR-S in the future I'd probably be going with a GTi or...well nothing else. Nothing has really sparked my interest in a long time like the FR-S

red_comet 05-22-2014 11:40 PM

My car is for sale, but not because I don't like it. I want a motorcycle, and can't have 3 vehicles no matter how badly I'd like to.

I remember going to Florida with a versa rental and it had to be one of the most boring things I have ever driven. I remember trying to merge onto the interstate and pressing the gas as a truck was in the lane and nothing happened. I had to press the pedal all the way down to just accelerate up to speed.

Liehtw8 05-23-2014 01:02 AM

Probably in a new Mercedes C63...

Yes it's miles different, but by going with the brz I was able to keep my 05 STI. And my Nissan Titan. I ended up selling the sti anyways. No regrets, will probably pick up a c63 or similar in another year or two and keep the brz and the truck.
