Gauging interest in Plug n Play option for BRZ Boomerang to turn ON with DRLs....

Disclaimer: This is a community service on a limited run, not a business opportunity.

There is a great DIY tutorial written by @Lithium on how to powerfeed the BRZ headlight boomerangs to be on with the DRLs. It's very well written and he has agreed to make a PnP option for the average joe that does not want to solder cables.. (e. g. me....). The tutorial.... http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53111

Sorry it took so long to chime in guys. I want to address a few of the questions associated with what I'm going to produce. This will be 100% Plug and Play. You will be able to remove this system completely and revert back to stock. You will not have to cut a single wire. I have yet to do all my homework but I predict these harnesses will be inline with the normal headlight assembly and/or fuse panel. There will be three different products created in this order.

Stage 1
*stock behavior - DRLs will be off while headlights are on.
*Lithium Behavior - DRLs will always be on full brightness

Stage2
*Pulse Behavior - DRLs will be full brightness while headlights are off. Once Headlights are on the DRLs will stay on but dim (not sure if I will make it adjustable or set to a standard PWM frequency.)

I cant discuss exact pricing at this point but I can certainly speculate. I know for a fact that the Lithium and stock Behavior will be the cheapest as they don't require pulse width modulation. All in all I believe the factory connections that we require to make this plug and play will be the majority of the expense. I hope to provide the stock and lithium behavior PnP harnesses for $50-100 dollars and the Pulse Behavior for $80-130 dollars. I hope to have exact pricing once I nail down a good source on our factory connections. I appreciate everyone's interest in this modification and I'm more than happy to help out, don't hesitate to ask any questions or give suggestions.

This thread is for anyone genuinely interested to buy this at a fair price. Please reply to the thread if really interested to be added to the list and if you want DRLs to keep stock behavior (turn OFF with Headlights) OR custom (turn ON with Headlights). Thanks.

Thanks to @Diode Dynamics for the updated list.

Custom DRL behavior, they are ON with Headlights ON...

Add me for DRL on with headlight (and dimmed)

I don't think dimmed will be an option.

@Lithium can respond to that..

I think he said it will be an option if I interpreted this correctly. Unless he just meant stock and the "on with headlights" DRL behavior.

I'd be interested in the stock DRL behavior option.

alpine 05-13-2014 11:13 AM

hi

aristo 05-13-2014 12:06 PM

Take my money. I will buy two.

Prefer custom behavior but with bottom row of drl on with headlights on only

Sent from my HTC first

Sniper2606 05-13-2014 12:12 PM

I buy. Stock behavior

I would do the headlight on but having the fog light on with drl's seems too much

BRZPDX 05-13-2014 12:16 PM

I put my parking lights on to get the boomerang/DRL's on. So the difference will be no sidemarker lights/tail lights on, while the DRL/Rang lights go on?

the difference will be you can leave your lights in auto all the time, and on daytime, the boomerang will light up without your parking lights, sidemarkers and instrument cluster lighting up.

What's the price range we're talking about?

I'll let @Lithium decide that. I can only think that as the number of potential buyers increase, the price of each unit can go down......

I expect a fair price on it, knowing we will be using his spare time, getting materials/ etc. Maybe after seeing the interest in a few days he can come up with a $$ figure..

OrbitalEllipses 05-13-2014 12:54 PM

Tentative on stock behavior then.

akiranakayama 05-13-2014 01:03 PM

Interested in the custom behavior. Put me down. Interested in price and install complexity --- is it really PnP?

Read the OP and go to the links provided please. There is already a DIY... The DIY is not PnP. I requested Lithium make a PnP setup and that is how we landed here..

Plug and Play means... Plugging and playing... OP specifically says "I don't want to solder". Plug and play means it will be connecting/disconnecting plugs, nothing more.

Yup, read the DIY weeks ago. Read the OP. The issue is that with many of these forum specials produced by individuals is that PnP may not strictly be PnP. That's why I was asking if it is really going to be PnP. Maybe there are gotchas, who can really say at this point? Besides Lithium himself, of course. I'm hoping Lithium can chime in soon and give a general rundown of what his goals and expectations are of his final solution that'll be distributed to members --- provided there is enough interest to warrant his expenditure of time/effort.

Ok, fair. Know that if for some reason Lithium cannot make it PnP, like literally plugging and playing, then this won't happen and/or everyone will be give a choice.

akiranakayama 05-13-2014 02:09 PM

Sweet. Looking forward to more info! Thanks for putting this together for the community!

calibrz 05-13-2014 02:15 PM

sub for the op...really interesting.

fguadamuz 05-13-2014 02:27 PM

Interested in stock behavior pending final price.

Count me in for the stock DRL behavior option.

Thanks for doing this!

xxscaxx 05-13-2014 02:40 PM

i'm in...stock DRL behavior option.

FLYFISHR 05-13-2014 02:55 PM

Put me down for the boomerangs on with the DRL and the normal useage with the headlights on. so I guess that would be stock behaviour

TM 05-13-2014 03:10 PM

Can't really see how to add additional connectors without splicing into existing wires, but if there was really a PnP way, I'll be interested as well.

BoxRZ_86 05-13-2014 03:16 PM

Seriously interested in DRL to stay on with headlights.

also wish their was a kit to leave my fog lights on even during the DRL are on.

CarzCarzCarz 05-13-2014 03:18 PM

I'm in for On all the time car is on.

You get connectors from the OEM source that are male and female and add the harness to them. It's exaclty what Diode Dynamics does to provide PnP HID's to the BRZ Fog Lights.

KelvinBRZ 05-13-2014 03:27 PM

I'm 1000% IN for the DRL bar option AND the brighter boomerang option. PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN! (Under a reasonable budget if possible)

Simon99 05-13-2014 03:30 PM

Will buy a stock version (but might be interested in custom if dimming led strip an option !)

Norkoastal 05-13-2014 03:36 PM

Diggity down... Are the DRL's heavy on glare at night? If they aren't obscene, i'm okay with them staying on at night when headlights are on.

They are pretty heavy, for the only reason that the output isnt pointed as it would be with a projector. Hence why Mercedes strips that stay on at night are dimmed

TM 05-13-2014 03:41 PM

Forgot to mention: interested in stock behavior, unless LED DRL can be dimmed when headlights come on.

Sportsguy83 05-13-2014 03:47 PM

I hope @Lithium doesn't have a heart attack when he sees the interest.. LOL

The brighter boomerang is a whole different animal and different DIY. It is not able to be accomplished plug and play. The headlights have to be taken apart for that one.

SCHN3LL 05-13-2014 04:33 PM

I'm down mang, stock behavior.

Cards2323 05-13-2014 04:42 PM

Stock behavior pending what a "fair" price would be...
