Consensus on Removing all Emblems Prior to XPEL Ultimate

What is the consensus on removing all the badges prior to having my car wrapped with XPEL Ultimate Paint Protection Film? I plan to install the Toyota Ts, GT86 and Toyota emblem. I assume it would look better having the logos placed on top of the PPF instead of having it cut around, especially since they will be different sizes since I will be changing them to match the GT86. My question is, will this be fine as I believe some of the emblems have holes in the frame.

:thanks:

Thats what I would do, it's also what I've done on all the cars ive wrapped. its less exposed edges of film to potentially lift.

Did you wrap your Raven FR-S?

N1rve 05-13-2014 02:19 AM

I would remove all the emblems. I believe even vinyl wrapping the car they remove the emblems.

jeepmor 05-13-2014 02:41 AM

Remove em. You'll be disappointed if you don't.

shellslinger 05-13-2014 02:49 AM

I had xpel wrapped the front end of my car. I left the emblems on. I'll snap a pic and show you tomorrow morning on how it looks.

OICU812 05-13-2014 03:58 AM

For the minimal effort and time why wouldn't you remove them??? :iono:

Kuros 05-13-2014 10:52 AM

No. I dont pick up my FRS until tomorrow!

I've wrapped a few evos, an sti, and some roofs/mirrors/various parts on FRS/BRZs

Chad, why do you need protection if you're not going to drive the car? Kind of sounds like a waste of money if you're just going to keep it in storage 8-10 months of the year.

No, only approx. 4-6 months per year as I live on the Wetcoast.

I'd just spray the whole car with plasti-dip. Then 50 years down the road peel it off and BAM, fresh paint.

I left the emblems on :D

If i'm correct, Xpel is mostly cut out...which the Emblem would be already cut out for...

This is true. Only the hood is not pre-cut.

So the back end emblem is pre-cut? This does not seem right...

Nah, just a base.

Goin cheap cheap cheap:lol:

aznatama 05-14-2014 12:12 AM

AFAIK, Xpel Ultimate cut sheets are made to go around the emblems, and they also do not wrap around the edges. So there's no need to remove badges and trim. The hood is also pre-cut (maybe they just came out with the hood outline?

Thanks :D. It's the Downforce carbon fiber lip from Evasive Motorsports. I picked it up locally from them. Great and easy to install once you get the right hardware.

Here's a better view of it.

The Xpel kits for our cars are designed around the front Scion badge. It's very easy to delete out of the pattern though, and it's also easy to wrap any desired edges. My whole car is done and there aren't many edges that weren't wrapped. The doors, full roof, full quarters, trunk will need to be custom. There is a back bumper kit but it's under the BRZ in the program haha. Also, I vote remove all badges prior to installation, it'll make the job much cleaner. Hope this helps!

Clean is the only way to go. I will definitely remove all badges prior to my appointment.

Thanks @JustBoostin

It's all up to you. You want clean as possible, remove the emblems prior to install. Don't care so much then leave um on.
Yes xpels pattern will have the emblem whole in it. But a competent installer will know how to remove that oval from the pattern on the computer prior to cutting your kit out.

GhostShield 05-14-2014 09:14 PM

Doing a vynil wrap then yess you HAVE to remove the emblems because you need that paint under them covered in the need of changing the color of the car.

Chad86 05-17-2014 09:29 PM

I plan to have the whole car wrapped including the headlights. Just wondering if the headlights are overkill or unnecessary.

GhostShield 05-18-2014 04:08 PM

PPF will keep the headlights clear and never let them yellow :)

Excellent. The local XPEL shop said they can wrap everything including the mirrors and headlights, but the taillights are a pain in the ass. Should I even bother with the tails?

Also, what are your thoughts on using a car cover with the XPEL? Since XPEL PPF is self-healing, there would be no worry about the car cover scratching while adding an extra level of protection when not in use. (Car will also be parked in a garage.)

All badges are removed and paint has been touched up. Do I need to remove the mud flaps?

mothespaceman 06-18-2014 10:10 PM

I had a full front clip install of XPEL Ultimate (pre cut) which kept the emblems on etc... and have had no troubles so far. It's been a few months and even in some rough weather it still looks near invisible (no dark edges etc..)

MysteryMachine 06-20-2014 03:29 PM

I have full Xpel stealth wrap... the emblems will not stick to it afterwards - so for any stick on emblems you either de-badge and remove forever, or you leave them and deal with the cut around.

Awesome, I get my car back today. I got the full wrap as well. Are you sure they won't stay with double sided sticky tape?

Xpel had my car for a few weeks while I was on a business trip. They said the emblems kept falling off the film and asked if I wanted to leave them off or for them to get something more aggressively sticky. I left them off and don't regret it.

we always remove then re-apply emblems on top of the xpel film. its never been an issue. my own car has the bumper emblem on top of xpel

peri.Laynz 06-24-2014 08:26 AM

What's the ballpark figure for a decent installer to do a full wrap?
