I had my FRS for 14 months now...

So now I have a twin turbo BMW 335i that I hardly drive anymore..
Even when I take a longish trip, I prefer to drive the FRS. I thought I would grow past this after some time.. but I have hardly driven the BMW in months.. Its even equipped with a manual so it would be more fun to drive.. but it still feels heavy and dull in comparison. its fast and comfy with all the
techno crap.. and its very capable.. but it doesnt compare to the overall fun of the FRS.
I picked my son up at the airport last week.. He barely managed to get his luggage in the trunk.. He got in and said why didnt you bring the bimmer?
I just smiled and said "i'm having too much fun in this". He shakes his head and doesnt understand why I would choose to drive the FRS over the 335i..
I told him to take my car for a week and then he will understand...
I love my FRS !

I've had my FRS for 3 months and I'm seriously considering selling my TT MKIV supra. I feel ya brotha'

DarkSunrise 05-12-2014 06:35 PM

That's a nice pair of cars you've got there. :) Any mods on the 335i? Maybe time to give it a tune to re-kindle the love.

Gunchoz 05-12-2014 06:40 PM

I know how you feel. I sold my 3 coupe and got an FRS and none of my friends could understand why since it's considered a "downgrade" in their eyes. They don't understand how much fun the FRS is to drive!

Thanks.. No.. its still stock.. its pretty quick as it is.. I thought about programming for more boost.. but decided to leave it be..
I enjoyed modding my E36 M3 when I had it.. but this one is crammed packed
under the hood.. doesnt look like fun.. hell.. there isnt even a dipstick in the damn thing.. i'll probably end of selling it, maybe.. the other empty bay
is for wifes prius.. and i dont think shes going to drive the BMW much anymore..

Awesome thread. There really is something special about the FR-S/BRZ, and I think your thread sums it up. The sum of all the parts just results in such a fun car to drive.

Thanks for posting this, i always enjoy hearing this about a hopeful purchase of a twin in the near future for myself ;)

Noooooo. Don't sell your Supra. That is a classic and timeless ride. That is my dream car.

I sold my Porsche 928S after my first month of FRS ownership. It felt like a heavy tank after using the FRS for my daily driver.

FRSupra 05-12-2014 11:17 PM

How long does it take to walk the length of that garage.

As good as the FR-S is, please don't make that mistake. The supra is a legend, still the best car Toyota has ever made. IMO even better than the LFA.

i know the feels. i too "downgraded", but im having more fun and more money in my pocket

jeepmor 05-13-2014 02:50 AM

This is exactly what this car was designed for, to turn convention on it's head. This is one light, nimble package.

And I second the "don't sell a TT MKIV, it's a legend."

The FR-S is indeed something special, but I would probably take a 335 for a long boring drive haha. Actually the plan here is to get a 328/325 or Audi A3 hatch once the FR-S is paid off so I can have a 4 door car as well. The FR-S will still be my daily, but I have wanted for extra space a few times, and I have a soft spot for Bavarian machinery.

Is the 335 a 4 door or 2? If it is a 2 door I'd say sell it, you have 2 cars for the same exact purpose, only one is newer, cheaper to run, and better to look at.

Sport-Tech 05-13-2014 08:48 AM

Interesting, thanks for sharing... I wonder if you'd feel the same if your other car was the upcoming M2....

kevman_101 05-13-2014 09:02 AM

If he sells the Supra, you could always make an offer on it :).

It's a 4 door.. Wanted a more practical car when I got it.. It's very comfortable for long trips and is a relaxed cruiser.. I got the manual so I wouldn't get bored driving it in town.. But since I have owned the FRS.. It doesn't see much use anymore.. The FRS is too much fun to leave parked..

I had a 99 E36 M3 for 13 years before this one. It was still running great when I let it go... Great machine!
The FRS may not be as fast or as smooth in its power delivery.. But being 500 lbs lighter makes up for it in other ways.. !
The FRS is the performance bargain of a lifetime.. It may not run with the biggest baddest dogs out there.. But it's more fun and very easy to own..
These are the good ole days!

Man, I almost totally forgot about this Forum until I got a Happy Birthday message yesterday. Figured everyone would appreciate what I gave myself as a present - detail job on my almost 2-year-old FR-S:

I've owned many performance cars and the FR-S/BR-Z is definitely a rare commodity. Plus, you gotta love that depreciation - I had a dealer offer me $22,000 to buy it from me. I got it for $24,500. Crazy.

I sold a sweet FFR Cobra replica to fund my FR-S.
Living in thunderstorm alley, and also the brutal summer temps we get, I've been very happy with the decision.

BRZZZZZZZZZZ 05-13-2014 12:34 PM

I miss my 135i for the torque/power and how much quieter it was to drive on the highway and more comfortable for longer journeys but otherwise my BRZ is more fun.

Miata next for me.

How is your car faring underneath? Mine is approaching the 2 year mark, and I have meticulously cared for it, never driven in snow, rain only a handful of times. Garage kept, constantly washed and waxed. Stored in the winter. Highway driven only twice. Armor -alled exterior plastic and rubbers, etc.

Even so, there are some pretty nasty chips that I can notice in the front bumper, paint chipping on the under body rails. Slight suspension surface rust.
