MT Gear Indicator Issue

I was reading through the owners manual (no really, I was :bellyroll: ) and I saw the steps to turn on the gear indicator for those with a manual transmission.

According to the book, while the key is turned to ACC, you press ODO until you see g-off.

I dont have that menu. I get ODO, Trip A, and Trip B. No gear indicator settings.

Has anyone been able to successfully set that up?

I don't have a MT, but I did read this earlier. Did you have the key in the ACC or LOCK position? Page 152 says it only shows in those positions.

civicdrivr 05-18-2012 09:23 PM

Yep, had it in ACC.

Spaceywilly 05-18-2012 09:24 PM

Make sure it is in ACC (first click) and not ON (second click)

Hmm, don't know then. You can't turn it off on the AT, or I'd give it a try to see what happens. Might just try "off" if you haven't. The OD button does work in the OFF position.

civicdrivr 05-18-2012 09:40 PM

Ill give that a try in a bit.

I guess while we're on the subject of the instrument cluster, is there any way to get the tach to do a fast sweep, like in this video:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ki2JA-_Opn4&feature=channel&list=UL"]Subaru BRZ nav startup screen by PERRIN Performance - YouTube[/ame]

Mine goes up to where I set the rev warning, pauses, then goes back down.

I'm sure there's a way, but I doubt it's just a setting.

IIRC it was a selling/debating point for a lot of the BRZ guys...

Stryker Trailwood 05-18-2012 09:56 PM

usually with these things, you don't keep pressing the ODO button repeatedly, they mean for you to press and hold the button down until you see the new setting pop up. but i don't have the car or manual to really know lol

gah sudden posts, now i see the manual above.

I thought gauge s weep was only on the BRZ, not FRS ???

Just went out to mine. What they mean is for you to push the button until the g-off display shows. You then hold the button in until it changes. Same with the REV light.

But it should come up just by pushing the button through 4 or less cycles, then is when you hold it down.

Try this if you didn't get it to work yet. Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the first on position, then push the ODO/TRIP until it displays G-OFF, then press and hold the button and it will change to G-ON.
That should do it

Its says how to do it in step 4 of this procedure.

civicdrivr 05-19-2012 03:27 PM

Still haven't had a chance to try out what was noted above. Once I do, Ill let you know if it works or not.

I also didnt see the 5 step process in the FR-S owners manual, we may not have the BRZs sweep function :(

uneekvisions 05-20-2012 11:13 AM

I really want a FR-S, but the little things are making me reconsider the BRZ :|

ESBjiujitsu 05-20-2012 11:36 AM

yeah wow more and more little things the brz has.....

MmmHamSandwich 05-20-2012 12:01 PM

Well, now that we've seen how mediocre the navi is, we had to be getting something aside from HID's for $1400 more. :paddle:

Dave-ROR 05-20-2012 02:04 PM

AFAIK only the BRZ has the gauge sweep option.. which will be turned off in my car.

xravexboix 05-20-2012 03:10 PM

FRS has gauge sweep. It sweeps to the SHIFT LIGHT POSITION (at least on the auto, anyhow...) and then zeros itself.

Mind you, the night this was recorded, I worked from 8am til Peking's First 86 delivery event was over AND we kicked it in our parking lot for a bit and chatted with Moto, SteHo that flew in from Scion Canada, Rex from Edmunds, Young from Five Axis, Ryan from Club Lexus and our awesome Corporate Rep. Tiger. It was a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG day (this was recorded at about midnight...). So please let my random pauses and brain-farts slide :D

Two things:

1 - Im an idiot, I was able to get the gear indicator activated

2 - Indeed, the FR-S does not have the full gauge sweep. I wonder if there is a way to "port" that over from the BRZ. Im a dork and I love that feature.

Setting up the Scion FR-S shift light indicator - YouTube

Wait, so it will sweep to the shift light setting everytime you start it?

Then you can just set it to 7400 and have basically a full sweep!

Kinda-sorta.

It pauses for a second where ever you set the shift light. So its not a fluid sweep. Its up-pause-down.

Actually scions implementation is ever slightly more useful. At least it tells you something. The Subaru version is pointless :)

Sport-Tech 05-21-2012 08:04 AM

Love that feature - reminds you of where you have the shift point set.

Minus 5 points for Slytheri-- I mean, Subaru!

Hahahahaha. I've just been told that the cars will begin arriving on Memorial Day. I'll verify on Tuesday (since I'm off this weekend) :)

Our 2 employees that ordered back in December are ecstatic... less the fact that they both went the same direction (Manual Whiteout) :iono:
