N.GA Mountain Cruise 5/17

39 Attachment(s)
Hey everyone,

A few of us were talking about going up in the mountains sometime soon. I do not know what the route would be though.

@Mooseknuckle44
@Trifid
@deliroast
@weepel

Meeting Point:
270 Walmart Way
Dahlonega, GA 30533
Roll out at 9:30

First there will be pictures at the lake.
The route will be something like this.

Mooseknuckle44 05-08-2014 06:52 AM

As of right now l'm good to go. We should pick a general area that's good for everyone to meet up. Time?

N.GA Mountain Cruise 5/17

So l just realized why the 17th sounded so good. That's the weekend of Zdayz up on The Dragons Tail!! I think it would be badass if we could organize several twins to make an appearance there. That's about 2 hours north of Buford. Maybe a lil more.
For anyone that's never ridden the Tail it's 318 curves in 11 miles. A few online picture sites that sit up there and get action pics of the rides in the curves(killboy.com is my favorite of the photogs). Plus, THERE WILL BE A TON of badass Zcars. From old Datsuns to brand new GT-R's.
To do this would be a day trip tho. Not just 3-4 hours of your day. I, for one, wouldn't mind doing Blood Mountain and then just staying on 129 all the way to the Dragon.
Thoughts?

Route

Here's the route I've done before:

MAP

When are you guys thinking? I could maybe do this Saturday after 12pm, but I'm out Sunday (mothers' day).

Trifid 05-08-2014 01:07 PM

Saturday the 17th is next weekend, Mother's day is this coming Sunday the 11th.

weepel 05-08-2014 01:15 PM

Ah thanks - got confused there. In that case 5/17 9am would work best for me. Otherwise I'd have to do Sunday.

@Mooseknuckle44
@Trifid
@deliroast
@boredom.is.me

That work for all of you?

deliroast 05-08-2014 01:17 PM

Where are we meeting?

Was thinking we meet at Lake Zwerner outside Dahlonaga for some photos before we head up 60. Take a look at this map

Reaper 05-08-2014 01:21 PM

No one wants to do the Zdayz trip?

I saw deliroast was down. Anyone else?

boredom.is.me 05-08-2014 02:10 PM

If we can make it a one day, there would probably be a little more interest. Plus if there is already an even there, we would probably have to move early, be at the meeting point for 8:00am (I can do earlier :D) kind of early.

I can take 20 to 400. I think I would be crossing paths with Moose.

It would only be one day. If we start up 129 early(8-9am) and just go straight up there we should easily be there before noon. Could run the Tail once or twice then head home. Be back where we started by 4-5pm.

boredom, if we all do this route, then you'd just head straight up 985 to exit 24, then get on 129N. from Buford to the bottom of Blood Mountain is about a 60-70 minute drive without any stops.

These are just suggestions btw. If no one wants to go ALL the way up to Deal's Gap(Dragons Tail, Tail of the Dragon, etc.) I understand.

The Suches loop would be a nice ride too. Just thinking above and beyond, as always. I think a group of twins rolling into Zdayz would just be epic-ish. :)

@Mooseknuckle44, that sounds just right. :clap:

If I did this I would have to be back to Dahlonega in less than one tank of gas. I only have an e85 tune.

I'm sure you can find E85 somewhere along the way. I can't imagine there'd be none. BUT. Unless you're only getting like 16 mpg's you should be fine.

Reaper 05-08-2014 04:42 PM

Ha, I only get 18. Ill start looking for e85 up that way. Its non existant near Dahlonega.

For our deals gap trip. We left that morning at 6:45. Arrived there at 11:45. Rode the tail, hellbender, and skyway, left at 7. And was in bed by 10. It can be done in 1 day. And took 3 tanks of gas. Would have been 2(1 there and 1 back) but...we had too much driving the passes.

Wish I could join ya'll, but it's not in the finances again this soon.

Reaper 05-08-2014 04:44 PM

Wow. That would take a lot of fuel for me.

StormMcCloud 05-09-2014 03:19 AM

I'd be down if you guys would move it to the 18th. There's a meet in Lithonia that I really want to go to that day.

boredom.is.me 05-09-2014 04:02 AM

Oh my...the conflict is real.

StormMcCloud 05-09-2014 12:36 PM

Yup, the meet at the Toyota dealership is supposedly going to have a pretty decent turnout of Toyota, Scion, and Lexus cars.

Mooseknuckle44 05-09-2014 01:48 PM

yeah, but.......

I know we don't drive Z's but a car enthusiast is a car enthusiast.

I know it's a long way for a day trip. But since the initial day chosen was Saturday the 17th, that's the day I got permission for. It was actually painless with little begging. My intention is fully to ride up 129 all the way up there, check out the event, drive the dragon, and come home.

Any and all that wanna cruise up there with me is more than welcome.:burnrubber:

Texaz Boy 05-09-2014 08:35 PM

Hi to all. I'm coming from Texas for sowo in helen that weekend I would love to join yall for dragons tail. I've heard a little about it. When and where are yall meeting?

Mooseknuckle44 05-09-2014 08:39 PM

No one's really stepping up with a time and place yet. I'll tentatively say l'll be at the Ingles in Cleveland(just below Helen) at 9-9:30am to meet up with whoever wants to make the ride. If we get some more interest and the time needs to change a lil, l'm down for that.
From there to Fontana,NC will be about a 2 hr ride. Pretty boring after the first 35 minutes(Blood Mountain). But the Tail is worth it.

Ill be at helen on the 18th if anyone cares. Car goes back on the dyno yhis Wednesday!

Now for a time, I say we be at that spot at 8:30-9. If you are running late, call (or post) so we don't roll out without you. Bring your cameras if you have.

deliroast 05-09-2014 09:07 PM

I say 930 :) bout a 3 hour drive for me lol. Can't wait to take new suspension to the mountains

If yes, then I'll update the first post.

And we need an actual location, like the walmart parking lot or something.

csjcsj 05-09-2014 09:28 PM

We might could do this!!! Will mention it to the wife!

Mooseknuckle44 05-09-2014 09:38 PM

If y'all wanna meet up at the Walmart in Dahlonega at 8:30-9:30 l'm game. If we head up 60, across Wolf Pen, and down Blood Mountain, that'll only be a lil over an hour run.
I'm sure you've all noticed l'm a lil hellbent on hitting Deals Gap. Once we get down Blood Mountain, l may flip around and head back up the mountain and stroll on up to The Tail. I'm sure we'll lose some guys at that point, but l'd love some guys to roll up with me.
As far as the initial loop, l cant friggin wait. Only ever done it on Crotch rockets, so l'm interested to see how the twin stacks up.

Sounds good to me. Are the roads lowered car friendly?

Some spots ARE NOT. But you'll see em coming. No huge dips or anything like tht but a few pot holes, broken road edges. Wolf Pen is pretty bad and really narrow. At least it was the last time l rode it(2-3 yrs ago).
You'll be fine tho.

This sounds just right. The Walmart will be a great place to meet up, and I'm cool with the time. And Mooseknuckle? I have every intention of burning at least one tank of gas, so I'm in it for the long haul.

Speaking of crotch rockets, I've chased a couple of them along those roads. I surprised myself at how well I was able to keep up! The little FRS just sticks to the road like glue. :bow:

weepel 05-10-2014 08:43 PM

9:30am Dahlonega Walmart

Dahlonega Walmart sounds good, although if others agree, I think Zwerner would be a good photo op.

So we're saying 9:30am on Saturday, May 17th? I'll probably just do the Suches loop then take off, I've got a family thing back in the city around 2pm.
