Can't make the 24th but really considering the September one

Trac Toy 05-03-2014 02:39 PM

Same. Can't make the 24th. Be racing at Watkins Glen that weekend.

qtwre 05-03-2014 07:16 PM

Thinking about it. I've never done a lapping day with random people so I'm a bit nervous about that, but it looks like fun and a reasonable price.

Are you down there with Frank and/or Bryce, or are there a few teams heading down from the GTA?

If you're going to pick any group of randoms, this is probably one of the best you could pick. It'll be very well controlled, with instructors available on site. MUCH better learning experience than most open lapping.

mabviper 05-03-2014 08:40 PM

so tempting. I would really like to drive the new DDT

Not sure of those names but there is a good chance I know them. Yeah there will be a bunch of Canadians down there. Hell the north region (including the northern US) director is Canadian. It's a great time!

6 hour race Friday, 8 hour race Saturday and another 6 hour race on Sunday.

SO looking forward to going back there this year! Had a great time last season!

The new track is very nice, very smooth but also slippy cause it's all new asphalt. Once a bit more rubber gets put down it will be better.

Skurj 05-04-2014 08:20 AM

Sounds like this would be a good first ever time on a track event.. Forked out way too much money recently.. mebbe the September date will work better for me as well..

It's got some bite to it! Lots of grip today, yesterday in the rain was a different story.

Trac Toy 05-04-2014 08:19 PM

Probably just me insisting on trying to wear out my stock tires, it was cool, and it did get a bit better after I scuffed off the hard road glaze. Ordering tires this week!

wparsons 05-04-2014 09:02 PM

We had about 60+ people (between students, instructors and lappers) out in the rain Saturday cleaning off the surface, and just as many today in the dry, you could definitely feel the grip build as the loose dust cleared off (and all over my car!) and the sun came out. I'll bet that on a 20*+ day it's even better.

The new layout is definitely more fun (and faster) than the old layout. The right hand bend in the west straight definitely feels more like a corner without the kink at the bottom!

What chump team are you with? Ours is a black '91 Civic hatch, IDFC racing. Not sure if Frank Ewald is going to be down with his miata team or not?

Should be an awesome race weekend, but too bad I'm missing the ATTS track day, it's always a great event.

EDIT - From the tiny avatar, mopar 4 life??

I think I heard Frank mention he was heading down as well, but not positive. It's kinda crazy that there's three people I know going, all on separate teams.

Yeah it's distinctive enough. Also you guys kill it at every race so as a new team we use you guys as a benchmark for having a reliable, well sorted car.

Looking forward to shootin the shit with you guys at the Glen.

@wparsons, that's great if Frank is coming down, he was actually a track instructor of mine when I first started at track events.

wparsons 05-06-2014 01:48 PM

Got my confirmation of registration. I was going to volunteer, but didn't hear back about that and didn't want it to fill up before I heard for sure. Is it the 23rd yet? :D

nvortex 05-06-2014 09:44 PM

Signed up for this event :)

Skurj 05-13-2014 07:18 PM

My resolve is crumbling... I am srsly thinking of signing up but not bringing the BRZ... will be the car that's paid for :iono:

Nono, for the 24th. Sorry, forgot about your first post saying you couldn't make the 24th.

Skurj 05-13-2014 09:13 PM

Yeah sent my payment tonight (for may 24).. absolutely clueless about trackdays... done lotsa laps in the virtual world but none in reality outside of a gokart..

Will be an experience, dunno anyone else going either! :bonk:

AlphaMotorsports.ca 05-13-2014 09:24 PM

Going to try and see if I can get a couple of the guys to come out to this. Looks like it'll be a fun time

wparsons 05-14-2014 12:04 PM

Check out the thread on SPDA-online.ca before sending money, it might be full already.

Skurj 05-14-2014 04:38 PM

I'm confirmed.

As I will be all by my lonesome.. If you see me pull in and don't mind mentoring me through my first event please flag me down.

wparsons 05-14-2014 10:14 PM

For sure, just let me know what car to look for.

Skurj 05-15-2014 01:55 PM

bring the brz!!!

wparsons 05-23-2014 08:55 AM

^^ What she said, bring the BRZ! NOTHING bad will happen to it unless you intentionally do something stupid. The new layout is very beginner friendly, and now that the curbs are in it's even safer.

My resolve has been crumbling... My helmet even matches the BRZ...

The other car is actually for sale, which also leans me more towards the BRZ but the other one is also paid for..

arrrgg.. My brother agrees with you as well.. but Dad not so much..

wparsons 05-23-2014 02:18 PM

My FR-S is nowhere near paid off, just don't drive like a moron and you'll be fine.

If passing is allowed in your run group, it'll be on specified straights only, and ONLY if you point the person past. Anyone not following the rules will be black flagged and given the boot. It's not a race, just casual lapping.

Skurj 05-23-2014 02:49 PM

Well you twisted my rubber arm..

See you there, mine will be the WRB with the shiney wheels..

The weather looks like its gonna be terrible (so as not to jinx)

Skurj 05-24-2014 04:55 PM

Well... it was fricken awesome..

I'll add this to the list of things I should have done long ago..

The car was flawless the whole day, a little pushy, but maybe that's to be expected with my staggered setup and I never turned off the nannies. Never shifted out of 3rd too for that matter, but as a first timer it was nice not needing to worry about shifting. A couple of places I definitely could have used a downshift, and with more practice maybe a shift into 4th, but I never hit the limiter once.
Track is awesome too btw

I'll definitely do this again, and I must say it was a good bunch of guys and gals there. Didn't get to meet you wp, but maybe at another event soon!

Is there any etiquette for posting pics? I know some didn't display license plates but many did...

drewbot 05-24-2014 04:58 PM

Damn I'm jealous. Still need to sign up for the September one

Do it! I may sign up for it as well, though also considering the bmw school on the big track which I think is the same weekend.

Got chase video of your car for a whole lap if you want it :)

Otherwise these were the best laps I got with the gopro

Improved another 3 seconds on the last session but ran out of batteries by then. I also stayed in third gear the whole time.
