So far I've just tinted my windows 18%.

Though I just ordered:
1. Toms US Spec tail lights
2. Nameless 2.5" Street Axleback and High Flow Cat Package (Replaces Overpipe)

Hopefully I'll stop here. I'm supposed to be saving for my own business. lol

I'm not doing performance mods at all because I don't want to mess with my warranty, but I've spent $500 just on "look pretty" stuff, lol. And that's not including the $500 radar detector...

OFT/OFH, Nameless overpipe/frontpipe, and Crawford BPBs! You know you want to.

Also transmission bushing, shift bushing, engine mounts, diff bushings, RCE Tarmac/Bilstein B8, steering rack bushings, short shifter, hood struts, Volk wheels, better tires, etc, etc, etc...

It can be an expensive hobby. Fun though! :D

To be fair though, look where you work. That's an awful lot of temptation.

Is your support group for your modding addiction. As you can tell from ever other thread on this forum we all try to dissuade each other from buying needless, senseless add ons for our vehicles. We encourage y.... :drool::drool: Is that a new set of rims and tires :drool: Never mind above just fell back off the wagon you're on your own.

Tires for this thing are dirt cheap compared to my truck, especially if you stick with 17s.

I started out saying I wouldn't mod the car and that didn't turn out so well.

I set myself a list of things I wanted and have slowly shrunk that list down. I thankfully do not have the problem of buying needless things for my car that are no way needed for my type of driving.

Dodging the FI plague that most seem to have has kept my costs down for sure...

Set a yearly limit and stick to it.. It works well for me at 1000$ a year. This year it's headers; last year was unichip and over pipe/front pipe.

Agreed. Make a list of what you want, by priority. Then focus on each part and determine if you really need it given your projected usage.

I broke my list into major purchase items and minor purchase items, with the line being $100. You'd be surprised how much nice stuff is under $100 for this car. My next projected major purchase will have a budget of $1K, so I look at my major purchase list and decide what I want, then fill in the budget with minor items. Once I'm through my list, I will have reached my goals for the car and I'll be done modding it.

I'm up to $3k in mods within the first year of purchasing the car lol. Now to stop spending money for a while. Saving up for a down payment on a home is my next priority now that I've decided where I want to live.

This is why leases are nice. They prevent you from getting expensive mods. Just minor look pretty ones like shark fin etc

Stop, send that stuff back while you can. Especially the Toms tail lights. ~$400!
You should not even have bought this car, let alone toss cash out the door for tailights!

Agree on expected losses...but have to add that I looked high and low for that "perfect car for my needs", then bought Scion FR-S and drove it as daily for about 7 months without mods, then fell in love, then love it much more after spending over $25k on mods

The wife and I discussed mods; we found that with the type of person I am, I'm going to mod my car regardless. So I have an established monthly budget I spend on it. I have a limit so I don't over spend, but I also don't have to spend it every month. (As sometimes I'll save for a big purchase) I get to not deny myself or lie to myself about mods and I see that it's helped curb impulse buys.


Just don't say "oh, I'm going to stop here" because denial is the first step. It's not about getting rid of the addiction, it's about managing it.

It's a common disease among 86 owners. It's highly contagious. Symptoms may included excessive spending of over $1k without a second thought. Researcher say this disease will not go away until all the mods cost 10x your car. Sadly, there's no known remedy for it at this time.

Interesting, the only thing I have done to the car is tint my windows. I told myself I would not touch the car until warranty was up. I think my last car kind of scared out of modding. I did a factory turbo upgrade (upgrade MAP sensors and tune) on my Cobalt SS turbocharged and it just went downhill after that (as in, car was crap and was in the dealership about once a month. No exaggeration).

I talked to my mom she said I could buy body kits, so she bumped my allowance by $15 a week. I have Rocket Bunnies on order with 23" wheels.

i can't begin to explain the amounts of money I have spent on my cars. My only concern when I wrecked the 13 was what could be saved to start over on a new one. I was at least 13k deep at that point and I said when I bought it I would leave it stock. I turboed the 13 at 16,000 miles, the 14 at 1600.

See, that's how it starts. Reasonable rationalization. Next you'll say" wow those tires made a big difference". "Wonder what better brakes would do". "Maybe just a couple suspension mods". "Ya, know bet a slight horsepower bump......" DOOM!

I knew before I bought the car that it would be costly. In less than two months of ownership, I've spent nearly $5k

I still have nightmares about what I spent on my R33 Vspec GTR... 6 figures including purchase price.

just keep on modding these cars are meant to be modded its part of the platform demographic but omg does it add up really fast next thing you know u just buy an exhaust for sound and ended up with a turbo or a full built motor or something else entirely crazy.
