Adjusting radiator fan temps
 
First, do you think that kicking the radiator fans on at lower coolant temps would be a good idea?

Second can anyone interpret these tables?

I was reading a post on NAOSIC that kinda explained it but I still don't know what the fan modes are exactly (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1828462)

This would need to be coupled with a lower temperature thermostat, or else the fans would likely be running constantly and not really doing much.

On topic of lower temp thermostats, I'm not a fan (pun intended)

I used the NASIOC link as a guide and came up with these fan profiles. Both fans should be set on by 200°F regardless of whether the a/c is on or not. @Dezoris mentioned in a post he's been running a similar 200°F fan profile both on and off track for 7 months with no I'll effect.

i would like to know the wire that activates so i could have and external switch for track days. turn it on with the hood up. sounds dumb but it will move that hot air around which is smart.

I lower these values on my own car as my intercooler heatsoaks at idle from the extreme pavement temperatures in phoenix even if my coolant temp is acceptable. Leaving the fan running non stop will keep my IAT lower and keep air flowing through my bay.

Part of the testing I was, the numbers are similar except the recover time is much faster with Koyo after fans cycle on.

Do you know for certain that the fans stay on at track speeds? Genuinely curious if upgrading the fans to higher CFM units will help at all with 230+ coolant temps I am seeing on track.

My fans are set to come on early and stay on, so while the car is on, the fans are on. Thermostat keeps the temps stable.

Temps run at 200 regardless of load or speed, never change even one degree.

Have you got access to the thresholds #1 and #2 in ECUtek? I only have the Vehicle speed parameters, which there is little point changing IMO.

Yes I've got access to threshold tables, which I've played with a bit
but do you know what the speed table switch points pertain to?

also leaving the fans on all the time will actaully reduce airflow at high speeds as they can't spin fast enough to match the airflow coming into the rad over 80mph

so you end up creating back pressure due to the fan motion, they definitly want to be off at high speed

I'm on the A01G but you need the ECUtek user level to be set to beta to see the fan temp switch points

So assuming the OFT speed table functionality are same as ECU tek

you have rad fan control - vehicle speed
10 = fans are on below this speed providing the temp threshold in the other 2 table is allowing it
20 = fans will be on if the temp is above the normal operating temp of 93C?
64 = fans will only be on if the temp is above 95C?
70 = ?
129 = ?
135 = fans always off above this speed

question marks indicate I'm not sure so any further information would be helpful

I've seen fans free-spinning (fans OFF) in front of the radiator on cars at speeds above 80, and I doubt they restrict flow at high speeds when on, especially if mounted behind the AC condensor, radiator, and intercooler.

On turbo cars especially, the fans need to be on ALL the time, otherwise if they cycle on and off, when off, the radiant heat from the turbo and exhaust gets insanely hot and melts things.

The fans being on all the time keeps air flowing across the hot parts and keeps the radiant heat from melting stuff.

Fans on all the time, thermostat maintains the proper coolant temps, done deal.

ya ive ran some cheap ebay fans on my civic for at least 4 years set to be on non stop thru the AEM and not once has it gave me an issue. im sure a pair of oem quality fans will hold up fine being on majority of the cars run time

@mike the snake agreed that keeping the fans on is a must on front turbos like FBM... this is done by Ecutek tuner? Installing a FBM turbo kit soon, and i want my tuner to do exactly what you suggest.
Also, dumb noob question, but... its both fans ON, rad and AC? can you make both stay on at all times? freaking hot temperatures where i live (+100f yesterday, its summer here).

I'm looking at mine in romraider and the "Rad Fan Mode A" is looks odd (to me). It doesn't show the temp, but has 2.0, 2.0, 2.0, 5.0 listed for M0, M1 min, M0 max, M1 max respectively. Any idea why?

Most likely AC on, AC off.

I'm running these at the moment, which equates to fans on below 70kph or so, off otherwise. It doesn't drop the temp below 194 which is good.
190.4 (90.0 C)
194.0 (92.0 C)
192.2 (91.0 C)
203.0 (95.0 C)

as @Wayno said definition, having multiple defs in romraider is a big trap when working with oft and non oft roms or even v1.5 and v2 oft tunes roms and defs are calid adjusted.

lucky you picked it as flashing that rom would possibly have bricked ecu or at the least resulted in unstable running.

What if you wanted to lower the fans kicking in earlier for the M0 / 0-6mph range only? Scenario I'm thinking is parking a car post a track session. Coolant temps by the time you get back to the pits might be low enough to not trigger fans but oil is still high.

Currently I run the A/C to force fans and keep air going through the oil cooler and radiator. But it has been mentioned that the AC condenser is adding extra heat to the mix so would be preferable to eliminate that.

I've just installed a Greddy front mounted turbo and am running the following on both tables:

83,85,90,93

Fans stay on at idle at the lights regardless of A/C status, thermostat will prevent overcooling of the coolant.

My engine is so happy now so he is sending you deep WOT kiss - he likes this kind of treatment very much and feels completely different in hot jams now. Thank you so much, man! Temp stands 192-195F in traffic jams now instead of stock 206-212F before update you offered.

So if I want my fans to full blast everytime I turn the AC on and I'm idling or low speeds, I would change the first value of table A to something like 100 F?

And change the second value from the last table from 12 mph to 20 mph, which would mean this setting would be carried out to 20 mph?

Talking about the tables below

The reason I am asking this. I returned my car to stock (this means from LS swap back to FA20), everything is working fine... The fans do turn on when I turn the AC on, but it seems its at a lower speed. I would like the fans to fully come on, full speed when I turn the AC on regardless of the coolant temperature... My AC works perfect when I am running at speed and when the car is full temperature, and the fans are running fully.. but if the car is not up to temp yet, it struggles cooling if idling/in traffic.
