Quietest 2.5" axleback or midpipe+axleback for my JDL UEL?
I'm looking for something quieter than my existing setup. It sounds great but is getting a little old daily driving at the volume it's at going up any kind of hill.
Here's what I have. Header: JDL UEL Overpipe/Downpipe: Nameless performance 2.5" with high flow cat and helmholz resonator Midpipe: Stock Axleback: Nameless performance offset 2.5" with 5" mufflers All the axlebacks I'm seeing that are on the quieter side aren't quite 2.5" (i.e. Invidia Q300). I'm supercharged and would like to have 2.5" all the way back. I have someone that I can get a resonated 2.5" Works midpipe from but still need a 2.5" axleback, or just a mid+axleback solution, but 2.5". Anyone have ideas? I'd prefer something the opposite of rice if possible. If no 2.5" quiet axlebacks exist I guess I'll have a decision to make. |
This guy has the same header & front pipe, with a Perrin 2.5" catback exhaust. The Perrin is a nice & quiet exhaust.

Isn't the Q300 2.5''???

Those are basically the 2 choices for quieter exhausts as opposed to loud (the rest of them). Edit: Okay, and the Perrin 2.5" resonated. The 3" Perrin is one of the raspy loud ones. |
I have a Ti tipped Q300 theyre pretty quiet...been tryig to sell it locally actually

Magnaflow is quiet as well, with a nice deep tone.

I didn't make a video. I also have the Nameless over/front pipe combo with high flow cat, but no header. Even with the front pipe, it was very mellow sounding. I think the Magnaflow would be a good combo for someone with a header who doesn't want something loud. |

HKS legamax Premium is one of the quietest, have to get used to the 5" tip though:D
Model (Engine): Scion FR-S(FA20) Model Year: 2012 Main Material: SUS304 Stainless Steel Tip Diameter: 124mm Main Pipe Diameter: 60.5mm to 54mm Noise Level: 88/89dB (Idle: 56 dB) |
Forget about it. Any way you cut it, the moment you add a header to these cars they get crazy loud. I have been on a few setups now and they are all loud. Hate to say it but 4 bangers just don't sound very good when you open them up. Drone everywhere. These aren't pushrod 8's with a loopy cam profile. That sounds good at any volume.

Ive got a similar setup but a invidia resonated front pipe, and had the greddy sp elite rear section, very quiet under low throttle but wot it would sound nice after 5000 and only after 5000, up to there it sounded as you say, "ricey" even with the UEL, typical sound from a chambered muffler like that had alot of rasp, the fraaappppppppp sound that sounds like exhaust pulse blowing on thin sheet metal, now i have the Borla catback, it sound like a beast, some ppl thing on idle its a v8 because it has such a deep tone and WOT is very loud , it does have the nicest deepest less rice sound ive heard around here similar to the EJ sti s with a 3in , deep boxer and just loud and aggressive wot, what sucks is the muffler is under the car and its LOW , like a good 2-3in lower than the stock i would say and in a parking walking up to the car from far you notice it, i know its there so i notice it right away sticking out but normal ppl wont i dont think, still the sound makes up for it. little drone not too much. |

I have a perrin resonated catback with JDL UEL and it is pretty quiet. While cruising I can barely hear it and if I put music on then it isn't even noticeable almost. While accelerating it is a bit louder but nothing overbearing. It is loud while WOT but I can still talk to people while accelerating WOT without raising my voice!
Tldr: buy the perrin. |
I have a revworks header, nameless do/op with cat and resonator and a q300. Thought I wanted quiet but it was even a bit too quiet. Decent sound but you could still hear the engine and header rattle over the exhaust.
I removed the q300 resonator and put in a straight pipe. It's just slightly too loud at low speed now. Now I'm working on putting a smaller vibrant resonator in place to split the difference. But the q300 won't be too loud with your setup if that's what you want. Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk |

The Q300 will give you nice rumble but without obscene volume. That's what I have on my car and I love it. |
