Cop radar detector
I was thinking a great place to put it was in the small useless tray next to the USB/aux ports. You could cut out the top of the tray to mount the light and an on/off switch. That way you would never know it was there.
Where would the sensor go? Run it around the windshield trim and drop it in the top corner of the windshield? Thoughts? Product recommendations? Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk |
v1
I have a Valentin V1 in the driver sun-visor with a Bluetooth app on my phone mounted on the driver corner window. Love it!

I've been looking for a radar solution that doesn't involve mounting it on the windshield or anywhere visible. I like some of the stealth solutions BMW and Corvette guys have done. |
Its not quite as stealth as i've wanted but i'ts hardly noticeable. The phone is the display so cars behind me wont see the classic "radar lights" and tail me. With my phone the radar is blacked out.

idk how to post pics?
do i need a photo bucket or something? |

https://store.valentine1.com/store/i...ucts/20110.gif The concealed display duplicates all the indicators on face of the V1 radar detector and blacks out the radar detector itself so that people behind you can't see the lights at night. The body of the radar detector holds the sensors, so you still have to have it mounted in your window, either by the suction cup mount or on the visor. The display will mount directly on a V1 cigarette lighter power adapter, but that doesn't do you a whole lot of good in this car. I've been planning to mount mine in that tray. It's almost a perfect fit; it will need just a bit of padding around it to position it perfectly. My plan is to run permanent power from the fuse box under the driver's side panel to the remote display mounted in the tray, then from the remote display up through the passenger side A-pillar to the radar detector mounted via suction cups at the top of the windshield. I have all the parts I need, just haven't gotten around to it. V1 supplies power cable, which is just RJ11 phone line, but you can make your own custom length power cables by getting an RJ11 crimper and connectors and cutting the cables to fit. I actually got my crimper and connectors at a thrift store for $1. I'm also considering relocating the clock unit to make room for a slimline oil pressure gauge, but doing that would necessitate losing the airbag indicators on the right side of the center console since the clock, hazard switch and airbag lights are all on one circuit board. If I make that happen, I may cut a hole and move the V1 display to where the airbag indicators were, since it's almost exactly the right height for that bar. I'm still trying to figure out exactly how to do that, though, so in the short run the V1 display is going into the hole next to the aux input. Also, here's a pic of the app YEAHdams is talking about: http://www.valentine1.com/v1info/v1c...ges/header.jpg |
That's the one. Love this radar.

escort offers something like this, I think it's about $1000. puts the sensors in your front bumper. I've got a 9500 ix that is mounted really high and out of the way on the windshield, never see it unless I'm looking. why are you concerned with it being visible? In my case you can't see it from the outside unless you know what you're looking for |
can't see it =(

I just think its rather unclassy having it sit right on the dash.

Hope that worked. If I was gonna spend upwards of 300/400. I said screw it and went for the best. Even got the Saavy module. Not as useful for me as I live where the speed limit changes rapidly. Might even sell it but idk. Pretty badass getting the auto mute win other ppl are in the car or playing music at a civial level.

$1000 though.... :barf: |

Unfortunately I have one of the older V1s that can't display all the info, so the app wouldn't be very useful to me. All the app would do for my detector is to display the same information that I already have on the remote display. Quote:
Although I no longer drive in VA very often, I personally don't want a permanent remote sensor installation because I have multiple vehicles and use rental cars when I fly. I like being able to pack my V1 in its case and take it with me. Besides that, Valentine doesn't offer a remote sensor installation because the V1 works best when its sensors are high up. A body installation would actually decrease its effectiveness. |

Right now it's ugly because it has the coily cord hanging straight down into the glove box outlet. Once I get the permanent power wired up the A-pillar, it actually won't be very noticeable. |

I have a cordless Escort, no wires or fuss. :)

Goes down the A pilar and connect into the Saavy module in the obd port.

Got this In The monthly email.
April 2014: What mom really needs I was driving home tonight through a small town. I had just passed a truck when V1 chirped the distinct sound of radar, arrow pointing ahead. I immediately slowed, and the truck zoomed by me. As I follow him over a bridge, V1 chirps again, indicating two radars ahead. The truck continues to pull away while I keep to 40 and scan the darkness for the two gunners. I see the first one just as the truck goes past him. Naturally the red-and-blues come on and the truck is a goner. That should have been me! But it gets better. As I pass the bust, the rear arrow lights up but the ahead arrow stays on. One still ahead. Then V1 chirps again—two ahead. Knowing that, I maintain 40 up the next hill. At the top, there they are, two more enforcers serving as witnesses to my innocence. At that point I thought to myself, "Geez! If I didn't have the arrows, I would have sped up and gotten nailed coming over the hill." And the opportunities kept coming up all the way through town, seven radar units in all. At the last one, a small voice came from the backseat, "Wow! You've got to get a Valentine for mom!" Hmmm, Mother's Day is coming up. Devin Foley Apple Valley, MN ^^^"been there did that"...cannot recommend this enough. |

Lastly, state troopers are the worst to get caught by because they're the strictest and less likely to give you a warning especially in a sporty little coupe. |
Look if you're going to speed, to be safe, always wait until you see a police officer already engaged on another vehicle or pulled over issuing a citation.
That way as you fly by going 100+mph and giving them the finger chances are good that they cannot/will not pursue you. |
Personally, I still run my radar detector even though I usually keep my speed within 10 over and run little risk of getting pulled over. I like having the situational awareness of knowing when I was hit, where the cop is sitting and what is going on around me at the time. I have been mistakenly pulled over in the past when I was most definitely not speeding, which is what prompted me to start using a radar detector in the first place.
You have the right in most states to employ measures to know when you are under electronic surveillance. A cop has no business assuming you are speeding just because you are exercising that right by using a radar detector. |
Beltronics over here. I'm not a "speeder" by the common understanding but it lets me know when I'm driving through heavily patrolled areas and you never know when you're passing by an officer who loves writing tickets for 5-over. (there's lots of those here).
We also have school-zones and intersections with photo-radar and it detects those so I'm not getting a tickets-by-mail by doing 2 over in a school zone. The majority of speeding tickets that cops write are not for people who "deliberately" breaking the law.. keep that in mind. There's nothing morally or ethically wrong having a device in your car that lets you know when the law is watching/tracking/monitoring you. If it's legal in your state, it's definitely a right I think should be exercised. |
Most of the State Patrol use Laser anyway. There isn't much you can do with that.
|
I have my V1 mounted right above my mirror and hardwired in. It's really the only detector you will ever need.

And the jammers don't do you any good if the cop is using a DragonEye LIDAR, which so far isn't being jammed by the jammers currently on the market. Not too many departments have them right now, but it's only a matter of time. I can't see spending $1000 to $2500 on a laser jammer that will see itself becoming increasingly obsolete as more departments get the "unjammable" LIDARs. I am planning to coat my headlight covers and front emblem with Veil. That stuff seems to test well, and while it won't jam to gun, it might give me a couple of seconds before the cop gets a lock. |

You have to be between jurisdictions to pull that kind of stuff. :) |

This maybe more than I'm willing to admit, but I was in the car that set the 28:50 Cannonball record, and we had our primary V1 mounted in the same exact location. I turned off the rear V1 3 hours into the run because it kept throwing false bogeys to the front V1. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...cl55_setup.jpg I also run a detector in the same spot in my personal car. |
People still use radar detectors? Instead of dropping $1000 on a box with blinking lights and annoying sounds, how about, you know, not driving like an ass?:iono:

I am amazed there isn't some kind of an app for the smartphone that hooks up to a radar detector, that logs and gives live updates to where cops are at.

Best answer is V1 with arrows
