Who/Where can I get my car Opti-coated?

Where do you guys go to and how much did you spend to have your car Opti-Coated?

Try contacting Drew @ Autosalonworks for a quote. He did a few FRS's/BRZ's here in the Bay Area. Not sure what the pricing was, but I think one guy stated he got it for around 750-800$ but his car was brand new. It's going to cost a lot due to the fact that you car has to be washed, wax stripped, and fully detailed before opticoat is done.

Thanks... I can't really afford $800, but I'll check it out.

Anyone have any other suggestions? Maybe someone you have had experience with.

Cheapest alternative is to diy. I haven't opti-coated car yet but planning to go to Drew at the end of this year to get my car opti-coated/detailed. Either way it's going to cost you an arm and a leg if you bring it to someone. Like I stated before, you would need the car to be wash/wax stripped and fully detailed before applying opti-coat. If you don't all the swirls/dirt/old wax/etc will get trapped under the coat and of course that will end up with a not so pretty looking car.

Labor is expensive. I kind of expect that. I am not really interested in doing it myself.

It is expensive but hell I think ~$800 is a decent price for someone who does top notch work. Just keep looking around and maybe on other forums. Try making a post in the maintenance/exterior section of this board. Maybe someone from out of state may know someone around the Bay Area that can help you out.

Edit: Here's another guy that has good reviews based on a Tesla forum: http://distinctivdetailing.com

I had my done in both places. I 2nd and recommend autosalon over distinctive. It may be expensive but it gets the job done in a correct manner. I had some trouble with distinctive and I don't think I'll ever be going back.

Could you elaborate?

Bump. Any other places that anyone recommends for Opti-Coat?

Cjymiller 05-02-2014 05:57 PM

I had mine done by Johnny at Distinctive. He does it in his driveway and garage. Satisfied and no issues. It was a flat $300.

edit: this included full prep and polish, decontamination and cleaning. The works.

$300 to just apply the coating? or with all the prep?

ckim 05-02-2014 06:56 PM

Drew @ Autosalonworks did my car. Amazing work. Worth every penny.

I got my opti-coat 2.0 done by Johnny at distinctiv back in July of last year and I would go back again if I needed my car detailed. Here's the work he did on my car on his site http://distinctivdetailing.com/detai...ey-metallic-3/

Kinda far from fremont but I will recommend Joe from Orinda Auto Detail. This is a good spot to get the opticoat pro done at. Mine was done for $770. Check him out and its worth the money for all the prep work and the outcome.

I think I'll just have to do it myself. I can't afford to spend $700 or $800 to get the car Opti-Coated.

@Cjymiller and @Kace, where is Johnny @ Distinctiv located at? Fremont?

Johnny is about to graduate soon, so he's focusing on schooling for the next few months. He recommended a few people, with Drew @ Auto Salon Works being one of them. I'd prefer Opticoat Pro though if I'm gonna have someone else do it for me. Still, seems like Drew does amazing work.

I think I'd rather just wait a few months if Johnny is closer. The other guys are at least 35+ mins away from me, which makes it a hassle. Sounds more expensive too.

If you are planning to have someone coat your car, you are probably going to have to leave your car with the detailer for the better part of the day. You factor in a bunch of hours for the prep and application of the coating plus the time for the Opticoat or OptiPro to cure (which is probably overnight). To drive from one side of Fremont to the other is like 10-15 minutes. What's another 20 minutes?

+1 for johnny at distinctiv. for me, he's done three cars - most recently the full opti for my brz. goooood dood.

his work speaks for itself:

but so do other people as well:

in the past johnny has fundraised for the American Cancer Society, and even contributed portions of his earnings to the cause. Class act.

You can try calling Dave @ http://www.thorpeautodetail.com/, located in Campbell. He does Opti-coat 2.0 and his techs really know car-care definitively. I only had my front hood and bumpers Opti-coated so came out to ~$400 but you can ask for a quote for the whole car.

I am good. I'll just do it myself. I wonder if I can get my hands on Opti-Pro.
