Does it have MPG meter?

like this one?http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog..../mpg-meter.jpg

Dave-ROR 05-17-2012 09:00 AM

It's not quite like that one but it does show avg and instant mpg.

BoxeRZ 05-17-2012 12:08 PM

Been wondering this myself. Does anyone have a pic? Or more info on how it works? Thanks.

It just shows the number in the information display in the tach. Nothing fancy :)

Never owned a car with this option, as I used to be in and out of rental cars 24/7 I found it to be relatively useful. Kind of excited, even with the no frills display.

this is a great question and thanks for the answers! i had this in my audi and loved it, and then didnt have it in my ms6 and ran out of gas 2 times within the first month lol....damn im reliant on technology. lol another great feature in the frs! :thanks:

I wish the BRZ instrument cluster lit up blue and white like a G37 sedan. I'm sick of red-like orange

Unfortunately it does not display the estimated miles left in the tank, only the average mpg and current mpg.

Hmmm, my Legacy shows miles left in the tank, I wonder why they wouldn't continue that on this model and I know the WRX has it too.

Geez, the gas gauge wasnt enough technology for ya?

I like that it has this feature as something that I could choose to pull up... might feel better not seeing it :burnrubber:

speedracer38 05-17-2012 01:45 PM

I think VW has the best system for the average, current mpg, and miles left to empty.

Lytheum 05-17-2012 02:11 PM

my mazdaspeed 3 has the same thing. generally those built in mpg ratings are off. some are worse then others...still think miles/gallons is the best.

I just thought it was nifty so i ended up using it a lot plus thats when i was broke so I was always stretching tanks lol. So when i switched cars i didnt know how depended i had become on it. Weird I know.:bonk:

My last DD had AVG MPG, Current MPG, Fuel Used, and Distance Remaining. It also had "Avg Speed" which I liked since that helps with the correlation of driving to MPG.

Of course, I guess I can't expect this car to be as high tech as 2001 Chevy Astro.

Draco-REX 05-17-2012 03:01 PM

My legacy has too many fuel efficiency gauges and readouts. Though one I'll miss is the analog gauge. It would swing from negative to positive depending on your current mpg in relation to your average mpg. So you could glance down and instantly know whether you were hurting or improving your average.

Being numbers-oriented, I thought that was cool. :)

ESBjiujitsu 05-17-2012 03:02 PM

:bellyroll: hahahahaha!!!! yeah mine was a 2000 audi TT and I dont even think it had the features your astro had lol! :slap: Shoulda bought an astro.... hind sights always 20/20 lol

I respect your honesty, but GEEZ! haha My current cars fuel gauge stopped working about 1 1/2 years ago, yet to run out of gas (knock on wood)! Thankfully it still has a low fuel light, but only comes on when there is 1/2 a gallon left, I owned the car for 2 years before I ever saw that light because it has to be soo low.
This AVG MPG technology will be pretty sweet, let alone a working fuel gauge!

I'd say BMW & M/B do, but European cars have good systems for this.

hey what can i say I am a man of creature comforts when im awarded them. lol. but yeah even i didnt feel too "bright" for running out of gas twice, but in my defense there wasnt many gas stations around where i was, and im very absent minded sometimes hahahaha:drool:

speedracer38 05-17-2012 04:38 PM

Ferraris have the worst way of showing when you are going to be empty. They have some stupid little bars that just go down and you have no idea of know how much is left on the last bar

Last year while doing the Bullrun rally my friend and I had a sick stretch of road where we were pushing his LP640 up to 180+mph for quite some time and then we realized we were in the middle of nowhere. We were able to limp it to a gas station 12 miles away with a 0 reading on miles left to go.

Spaceywilly 05-17-2012 05:09 PM

I ran out of gas one time, somehow I thought I thought I could make it 80 miles to my exit even though the gas light was already on. Fortunately I ran out at the top of a hill and there was a service station at the bottom of the hill so I put it in neutral and coasted right up to the pump

To hell with MPGs. I would have liked range to empty instead. My Kawasaki had that feature, my Ducati has that feature, and my TL has that feature.

Range to Empty is even more useful than a fuel gauge!

Sadly, not in my Lancer. Once you hit 30 miles left (roughly 1 gallon), it just blanks out...fairly useless when it matters most. The Lancer is the only car I've owned that's had the miles to empty on it, so knowing the MPG and size of the tank I've pretty much always just calculated it in my head.

Ugh, the Lancer's range to empty is like a bad joke. I'd laugh, but it's not that funny.

All three vehicles I mentioned go all the way down to zero. I almost to find out the hard way a couple of times! The nice thing is that they each display range dynamically; so you can see your range increase if you drive more gently, or drop if you feel like putting traffic behind you.

Lol my dad had that van, his avg speed on the indicator was 59.6 mph over 287000 miles... Which is fast, avg speed is based off when the engine is turned on till the engine stops, includes sitting in fraffic, drive throughs ect...

Miles to empty is just calculated off the amount of gas you have in the tank right? I'd just like to see an accurate fuel gauge so I know how much fuel is actually in there! More useful than "miles to empty" which will vary depending on circumstances and driving.

I hope it switches to gallons per hour when you're idling, that is good information to know. Speaking of which, any current owners able to chime in on this? Does it just say 0.0mpg when you're stopped, or does it give you gph?

Wow, that's pretty impressive. Mine over 289K miles was only about 36. He must have drove nothing but highway and hammer down the whole time.

Even when checked it over highway trips, the second you pulled off for gas, the avg would drop significantly.

used to do sports and i was top 10 national for my age group, so we went to a lot of competitions... nothing but highways, but during the week he still sat in stop and go traffic... 287000 miles in 5 years... never once changed the spark plugs, very reliable van, sold it for 3k.. :D

That would explain it. One of the best vehicles Chevy ever made, they should still make it. Between the two I had I literally drove them far enough to have gone to the Moon and back, with almost zero issues. But, when they died, they died hard!

well i guess we need 2k more miles for it to die! 287000 to your 289000 lol...

i really didn't see the MPG disply

Not quite. It also takes into account your current MPG, so it does fluctuate.

In my previous cars, I pretty much just always tried to fill up when I was around 1/4 tank remaining just to always be safe.

Would GPH actually be that useful to you? Do you know of a few vehicles with this? I know many commercial trucks now cut the motor after idling over certain times.

How much can you idle; its great for boats but why would you want your car to be idling for hours in the first place?

I suppose it's not actually that useful, but it's better than a display that reads "---" or "0.0", which is just completely useless and stupid. Knowing idle GPH might make some people consider turning their engine off more often, and if you're stuck in say a closed off mountain road where you don't know how long you're going to be there, knowing how much fuel idling costs you would help you make a better choice as far as fuel conservation goes. I believe VW cars have the GPH reading in neutral, but not sure if it's across all models or if it even exists in the US (I noticed it in a VW Jetta taxi in another country).
