Why put logos outside of Car?
Mind my name, and I am new to the modification scene. Adding a CF Hood FA style, and they are sending me a sticker. But honestly, why put a logo outside a car that they are not paying me/discount the car? I am not being trolly, just trying to understand this. I see people putting a ton of logos outside their car based on what they are using but nobody has sponsored them, so essentially they are getting free advertising. Therefore the need to have them sponsor you is less because you are already doing it.
Or unless the chances are higher to get sponsored because you are more willing to put part logos outside? |
Decals = HP

Really??
*Goes Outside, Adds a Walmart Sticker* |
Wal-Mart is +50 hp

It's because people are ricers. Don't be a ricer.
|
My car has a Subaru badge and Subaru definitely isn't paying me for it!
Some people like supporting well-made products and letting others know what they have. |
It's bragging. People want to make sure everybody else knows which expensive parts are on their car - especially the ones nobody can see. Frankly, I'm the other way with it. I'd rather everybody at the car show think my car is on Rotas; means they're less likely to attempt to steal from me.
|
Some guys actually are sponsored but the stickers that come in hood boxes are not the kind of stickers that make anyone lead to believe your sponsored. All my stickers I get from that stuff goes immediately onto the refrigerator, that's a better spot for it. Or a tool box, that works too, but leave it off the car for sure.

I put all mine on my iPad case. Also made the dealer take off their little dealer emblem and license plate frame. They weren't willing to work out a fee for advertisement, so it came off. I'll sport a license plate frame of a company I like and have no problem supporting though.
|
I'm going to start putting stickers all over the outside of my house (Carrier, Moen, Electrolux).
|
I put stickers on my car to hide scratches!
|
I use passive word-of-mouth (stickers, logos, etc) to help companies that produce and sell great products or services. Nothing to do with posing as being sponsored, or bragging about expensive parts.
My compensation is getting to enjoy the fruit of the labors of smaller companies. Ones that are disruptive, innovative and imaginative. Tuners, parts manufacturers, suppliers, and even forums ;) So if a sticker, badge, or license plate frame helps spread the word about the people/companies that bring joy into my life then I promote them. Happily. |
Ricer mentality.
|
same reason you have nike swooshes on your shoes, or polo in big bold letters on your shirt.
advertise your big baller status. |
Most of the pack-in stickers are not what you want to put on your car, even if you were into that sort of thing.
I use those for my toolbox. |
It's the same with bicycle parts, they all come with stickers but you don't have to stick them onto the frame as that's not what they are for, they are too huge for the frame most of the time.
|
Never really thought about those stickers that comes in boxes to be put on the car, you might be confused with decals. I usually put them on items such as my laptop, my door for my room or on my crappy acoustic guitar.
|
I won't put stickers on my car. I do enough advertising through clothing gear, food/beverages, electronics, jewelry/watches, tattoos and the list goes on... But let's verbally assault the guy that throws a badge or sticker on his car :bonk:
We're all advertising something intentionally or unintentionally ... |
Some people are ricer and plaster stickers like no one's business. Others simply want to advertise some great manufacturers who provided them good stuff, and they put a select few in tasteful places.
And there's other folks who put the stickers on their toolbox or on the inside of the trunk lid or in the engine bay, preferring a "sleeper" exterior. I'm personally somewhere in the middle. I won't be putting supplier stickers over my car, but I do plan on SOME decals on the car to give it some character. I'm thinking something Firefly-related that isn't tacky (no massive hood art) that would be in better keeping with an artful track machine. And some folks really ARE sponsored by some folks for certain events and they just keep the stickers on. |
It's really just a shopping list for thieves.

I have my local sports car club sticker on my rear window. They don't sponsor me...guess I'm a ricer.
Based on the amazing service, product, and response time from the gang at Vishnu Tuning I've put their sticker low on my rear window for a bit. They do an amazing job and I am happy to do some free advertising for them. But it makes me a "ricer" so I'm having second thoughts. |
It really comes down to personal preference. Who is anyone to say what is ricer or what is tacky? If someone wants to drive a car covered in <Kicker> stickers or Konig or put Greddy stickers (even though they don't have a single Greddy part). Who are we to judge? Each car is its owners expression. And if an owner feels pride driving a car 100% covered, then I say "Good for them, and happy driving". That being said, I don't put stickers on my car. IF I did, I would like obscure JDM driving references. But I was stationed in Japan for 5 years and got to see how amazing the driving scene and culture is overseas.

I have a parking decal and one for Southeast 86 and another one coming to support a local car group starting. The only time I ever put a vendor decal on was for a contest being ran that they decided to forget about it seems. That decal for the vendor came off after the pictures were taken for the contest. I wouldn't put actual stickers like K&N or whatever on.
|
I do it for certain things only. For instance, the local race shop that I take my cars to for everything would be an exception. I have their sticker on my car because I believe they are a great bunch if guys who do excellent work and I prefer to support them by having their name on my car.

Stickers are for tools box ;)

Depends on the company but there are some companies that will pay you if your car is featured in a magazine and you have their sticker on it. Now others throw the decal in for the hope that someone will just do what you said and advertise for free. Its like giving out a business card in hopes someone will call you later.

My vote would be that, unless you are sponsored or part of a club or advertising your own stuff, stickers are ugly/dumb/rice/whatever you want to call it.
That said, that is what I think. But if that is what makes somebody happy - go for it. What is funny to me, is that the most people putting the stickers on the cars usually don't do it for themselves - they do it to get attention from other people. The problem is, most other people think it looks ugly. |
Something to consider with stickers -- if you live in a community with a housing/condo association of some sort and park outside (rather than in a carport or garage), their parking enforcement can cite you with a warning for having promotional stickers. It's dumb, but it can happen, and it did to me back in 2003 for a small sticker (maybe 3"x12") that I had on my carbon fiber hood of my Honda. I got two citations, on back-to-back days, though I got them to leave me alone after I called in complaining about it.

It's all bullshit as noted before. Big logos on your clothes and shoes, no issues, baller status. One black, mild sticker in the corner of a window? RICE BRAH! Say stance looks stupid and you're a "hater". Complain about stickers on a car and get pats on the back. Put on stickers of companies you really like and you're a ricer. Put the same stickers on if you're "sponsered" (ie 20% discount?) and you're not a ricer? This topic is just one more instance where the car community is neurotic, confused, and hypocritical all in the same thread. Carry on haters. ;) |
