Hidden Features

Greetings 86club
Having just bought my new FrS, I was wondering if anyone could share some features which some may miss, or could be considered hidden
There's something similar on Wrangler Forum and I was curious if the twins had anything to speak about here as well

There's a DC (cigarette lighter) plug in the glove compartment.

There is a screwdriver in the trunk, that's reversible. Pretty damn handy.

Derickie 04-13-2014 04:56 PM

You can drift the car with one hand while holding a Big Mac with the other. That's the only feature you want really, screw the screwdriver or dc plug!

ZOMFGAARON 04-13-2014 04:57 PM

If you press the display button while your car is off it'll show how much gas you have.

Snowblind 04-13-2014 04:58 PM

If you turn all of your safety features off and wreck your car you can blame it on something else other than the driver.

It's a pretty useful hidden feature for posting on the internet.

That's actually really cool, thanks for that

gramicci101 04-13-2014 04:59 PM

If you put the car in reverse and floor it, you can go backwards quickly.

Shit I have to try this

You will be adored by dudes, this includes fly bys, rubbernecking, thumbs up, revs, conversations when you have somewhere to go, conversations when you have time to kill and requests to go for a walk in the woods from a middle aged man.

I highly suggest saying yes to the last one.

I feel like there's some personal experience you're not sharing here.

You can program the digital display to show what gear you're in.

No problem. If you didn't also know there is a button in the trunk that disables the buttons that open the trunk (the one on the dash and the one on your key). So you have to open the trunk with the key. That's more of a valet feature, since the valet key won't open the trunk.

jskurucz 04-13-2014 05:48 PM

The steering wheel is adjustable up and down; in and out. I have mine pulled all the way out.

extrashaky 04-13-2014 06:16 PM

The prop for the hood comes completely out so that you can mount it in another hole higher up the engine bay to prop the hood almost straight up. Doing that turns the hood prop at a weird angle, but never fear: They put another rectangular hole at an angle in the hood itself, so that it still fits.

Something about a pedal dance to turn off driving assistance(s).

Rear rotors are the same (290x18mm). This has been measured by a few of us on here to confirm.

Apparently the LAST measured before turning off the car! I tried this after fueling up and it showed only a half tank. I tried putting more in but it was definitely full. Once I turned the ignition on it was correct. So I'm not so sure it's a great feature. :(

Sailors14FR-S 04-14-2014 02:46 AM

the whole fuel economy shift indicator thing... best feature ever... I love when I see that little ^... I get a good laugh every time i gun right past it!!!

N1rve 04-14-2014 02:49 AM

You can set the RPM for the car to beep at you with a red light.

Really?! I'm gonna try that now.

But they can fold the seat down from inside the car.... not much of a security feature

folding down back seat

Or while reading a book (see Jeremy Clarkson Top Gear video).

Since some genius decided to show everyone that, yes, now they can.

Here's a video tutorial.

I've had the car for over a year. Just realized it had telescoping steering wheel a few weeks ago.

I made the video more for forum members cause I've seen quite a few "Locked out of trunk treads" pop up. When explaining how to fold down the seats I get the confused look. So that's how the video was born.

But I understand your logic. I'll put the video to private then.

If a thief is going to take the time to Google that. Your stuff is getting stolen no matter what you do....... keep it as is I say. Its useful to more non theifs then theifs.

radroach 04-14-2014 12:01 PM

You can turn the headrests around backwards to accommodate a track day helmet.

I know thieves would eventually figure out to do that(or get in the trunk another way), but I think it would be best not to give them any pointers.

One other thing regarding the trunk - If you unlock and start the car with the valet key, the button on the dashboard will still open the trunk.

This might seem obvious but some people might think that just using the valet key will keep the valet out of the trunk. You need to disable the electric release by pressing the button inside the trunk.

That's where I learned about the hood mount. The other handy thing I learned there was that there's a built-in pass through in the firewall for gauge lines.

http://www.tune86.com/sites/default/...assthrough.jpg

Also, for those who are interested in adding an oil gauge but don't want to add a sandwich plate under the oil filter, there's a handy oil gallery hole right next to the throttle body where you can plug in your sender. See this thread for pics:

This is true for the North American market. Foreign markets have solid rear rotors on their low-spec cars.

This is true. I was only speaking to NA vehicles.

So... on a 2014 with the Smartkey / push button starting theres a way to leave your keys in your pocket and lock the car door without pushing the lock button switch on the interior door panel. On both the driver and passenger side exterior door handles you'll find these two little dashes....close the door, press on the dashes and your locked ;) If ya toss the key in the car and try locking it you just get a beeeeeeep....it wont lock from the outside with the key on the inside ;)
