Yeah ha, I agree. It is still very early in the build so more interesting content will come as the ball gets rolling! :)

We drove the BRZ at the Wednesday night drifts at Sonoma Raceway for the first time!

We had the vehicle in completely stock form so we could get a baseline feel for how the vehicle behaves.

We will be making adjustments and modifications incrementally and documenting results each time so we can see exactly how each change affects the vehicle.

About to take the car off the alignment rack after making sure the vehicle was at factory specs.

and Go-Pro footage from on the vehicle.

The vehicle behaved very well! Our driver said the car transitioned very smoothly and predictably from left to right/right to left while in a drift.

We had the front tires at 35 psi and the rears at 45 psi.

Are you going to be making some sort of brace that goes in behind the fender, like the GD STi's had?

We are looking into it, but are still devising a way to properly measure torsional rigidity.

Pete156 05-10-2014 07:47 PM

GT SPEC makes some nice braces for that area

We are still in development but are getting close to production and will be making an announcement regarding it in the next month or two.

Our first Stage 1 development kit is currently accumulating a large amount of miles while we gather real-world data for how it performs.

We are simultaneously making very good progress on installing our second Stage 1 development kit.

Here is a peek at an uppipe CAD model.

We took the BRZ out to Sonoma Drift again on Wednesday.

Minor changes were made by adjusting the front camber to as negative as possible with the factory hardware and the installation our WORKS Exhale Axle Back Muffler.

Enjoy a few photos from the event and video will come soon. :)

One of our Engineers, Leon, got to autocross and lap the BRZ on track at Sonoma Raceway last Weekend.

Videos will be up soon. :D

Short video of a handful of fast and/or interesting runs from the autocross day.

You can see towards the middle of the course there is a small slalom section.
It was interesting in that you could choose to start the slalom on either the right or left.
As you will see in the video, Leon started the day going wide to the right, but later changed to starting the slalom on the left as he felt it was faster.

Also, I should note that the vehicle was returned to completely stock form again as this was the first time the vehicle had done any type of "grip" driving.

Hope you guys enjoy!

WORKS 06-13-2014 03:21 PM

Working on Leon's track day video right now and will be up later today. :)

I wanted to give you guys a few excerpts from his driver's summary of the autocross day as well.

To give you some context on his perspective, Leon has driven his S2000 in 5 track days and as mentioned earlier is one of our Engineers. This was his first time driving our BRZ (or any BRZ or FR-S for that matter) in a motorsports event.

Here's some of his comments:
  • Left TC and ASC on first run, very intrusive
  • Car is very grip-limited in all aspects: braking, cornering, accelerating
  • Lots of turn-in understeer as well as mid-corner (steady state) understeer
  • The throttle pedal, on the other hand, is very annoying. Engine does not tip-in until pedal is depressed by ½” or so; makes smooth takeoffs and part-throttle modulation more difficult than it should be
  • Need more headroom! (Leon is 6'2")

WORKS 06-13-2014 09:57 PM

Video is ready to view from Leon's track day at Sonoma Raceway :D

Initially, after driving in the autocross event, Leon wasn't very impressed by the car, but after the track day he thought, "what a fun and rewarding car to drive!"

Below are some more of his thoughts:

Quote:

It is a very easy car to drive at the limit, slides are easily correctable and predictable. Initially, I had little confidence in the brakes caused by coming in hot into turn 7 and just not stopping. I had to drive off into the runoff. After that, I increased braking distances but started reeling them in as the day went on. At the end of the day, I felt satisfied with the brakes as far as what the stock system can do. Sonoma is fairly easy on brakes so I experienced no fade. The pedal stiffened up, if anything, as the brakes were being applied. The biggest bottleneck on this car was the tires, by far. Once it has stickier tires, I’d recommend more aggressive brake pads.

This chassis is really capable and given some extra grip and braking power, it will be a monster on this track!

WORKS 06-14-2014 02:50 PM

Just realized I forgot to set the track video to public. Sorry about that!

Video is NOW viewable! Enjoy :)

Should be happening soon! We're still working through making minor changes to see how they affect the vehicle. Things like using WRX "crash bolts" to gain a bit more negative camber in the front wheels, trying different alignment settings, and swapping out the BRZ suspension springs for FR-S springs.

In case it isn't clear, the metal bar attached to turbo is only there to hold the turbo in place for development purposes; it is not a part of the kit.

I was going to say, that is a bit interesting, little heat sink to cool the air ha?

sweet deal so far man. You should definitely put some works wheels on it haha

lets just say you did make a bar like that to not hold up the turbo but to replace the cross bar that was removed, do you think it would regain its rigidity? I placed my turbo in the same location and removed that bar but kept the other side. have you noticed any change in handling with it gone? I havent noticed a huge difference but at the same time I dont push my car's handling to the limit.

BadBRZ 06-26-2014 03:20 PM

Why in the world would you want a "heat sink" on top of your alternator... Its bad enough there is no air flow there but now what air is around the alternator is going to be heated. Heat + electricity = bad, thats why most front mount kits have slim fans.

But hey, good luck!

Hi glorydays,

A properly designed replacement strut that routes around a turbo could definitely regain rigidity lost by removing the stock bar. This is something we’ve considered and will look into at a later stage in our kit development process. Obviously a structural bar would look very different from the bar shown above, which merely locates the turbo for mock-up purposes. We have yet to gain enough testing time on our kit to determine if the absence of the passenger side bar has a noticeable effect on handling. Thanks for your comments!

Hi BadBRZ,

We anticipate the heat sink making only a slight increase in air temperatures around the alternator that should not affect its operation, but will verify this during testing.

We will also be testing for the effectiveness of the heat sink on intake air temperatures. That is to say, we want to make sure that the heat sink isn't soaking up heat from other areas of the engine bay (the alternator being one possibility) and therefore being more harmful than helpful.

Thanks for the question!

Why brzedit over some of the other options out there? Are there specific benefits with using brzedit over something like ecutek?

You guys were running this FI kit back in 2013 at 86 fest. Are you waiting for CARB approval? Or will this not be sold
