Track day.

So, as many of you know I took liberty in planning the mega meet. But as that thread went on. It sounded like some of you would like a track day. I had talked to ORP to rent out their track in August for a day and it comes close to $9,000. If I could get a head count by liking this post. It would give me an idea of to either try and make this track day happen or plan something else for the mega meet.

Also I made a new thread just to talk about the track day. Ideas are always welcomed in the other thread.

HATED1 04-05-2014 09:59 PM

Would the track day involve an area where we can practice donuts and figure 8's? Possibly a little drift course?

Uhhh. I don't think so. I've never been to ORP. Hopefully somebody who has could chime in.

Decay107 04-05-2014 10:37 PM

Intetested, definitely in if costs are below $400

We could probably set aside an area of the parking lot. So long as we are not doing anything dangerous or stupif it probably wouldn't be a problem. Not sure though if it is specifically restricted in the rental agreement though.

m.box.design 04-05-2014 11:18 PM

i guess the most obvious difference between us and clubs like PCA, is the median income of the members. lol. i'd be down for anything around $200/person.

Fuzzysmith 04-05-2014 11:45 PM

I'm in if under $300. Single day track insurance is around $150/event, I think.

I'm in. The advantage of higher price is fewer cars on the track! Would much rather pay $400, and have half the cars!

ilpad 04-06-2014 12:18 AM

Personally for a mega meet id like to go for a nice drive, throw down a tent, start a fire and slam some beers. Then wake up the next day with a hangover and then drive home cursing at my suspension everytime I hit a bump :)

Lol we could do that any day of the week. You plan the day. I'll be there to slam beers.

Chen 04-06-2014 01:16 AM

Also. We would need to get at least 30 people for it to be in the 300 range. And those people have to be deticated . I'll collect once it's all final and put down a deposit. To reserve the track once we get this more official.

Note: that 9000 doesn't include food service or any damage fees. Ie running over cones or taking out signs and junk.

Lol well just one of us would be nice. Heck we should just recruit one of the blazers and get them into a twin. Make them pay for everything.

m.box.design 04-06-2014 01:59 AM

@ilpad can make his baller boss pay the fees. lol!

i'd imagine RoLo would be easier to hang out with. lol.

digital_assassin 04-06-2014 03:19 AM

I'd be down for a track day for sure! Mega meet should be a cruise and hang out. If we could get enough people to do a track day at ORP that would be the coolest thing yet in my book.

I organized that event last year but only one person drove out with me and you were the only to camp with me which was surprising since others paid for camping spots and never showed up. Perhaps I'll try the same thing this year and see if more people show up this time.

Still was fun tho! Except for that decrepid road down to the campground.

Chen 04-07-2014 12:47 AM

Bumping the thread. To get more exposure,

Ill definitely do my best to make it out for another drive n camp adventure. Maybe if we do a seaside camp ground we could get more interest? 30 mins south of tillamook I think ended up being to far for most people. Downside tho is summer time Seaside traffic. Its hell.

Boom 04-07-2014 11:58 AM

Player-dancer interaction is forbidden. heh, sorry, no baller access here.

Down for the mega meet though

wow what kind of crap is that?! at least you don't have to worry about a rich NBA player stealing your girl

glamcem 04-07-2014 04:01 PM

I have been there a few times with my Corvette Grand sport, it's a great track (my favorite track here in PNW), very friendly people..I also like the fact that you can vote to run CW and CCW so it's a whole different experience .:D

glamcem 04-07-2014 04:03 PM

forgot to mention, I am going there on April 19th :) right after attending to RMP event on 18th..so it will be a nice road trip and my first track days with the BRZ, I will try to post a video

When you were there. Was it pretty organized on who and when people were allowed on the track?

I've attended as a club member so there were only 4-5 cars at most but the organization was very good...
but other than that it all depends on which racing school/organization you are going with

Hmm. .. how many runs around the track did you get?

Open track, so we had more than enough seat time for whole day :)

Chen 04-09-2014 02:14 PM

Just had ORP reach out to me this morning. Told them we were still decided if we wanted to do this still. Soo bump!

thehapaone 04-09-2014 02:29 PM

If we can hit around 300 count me in it doesn't seem like we have a ton of interest maybe @DarrenDriven can shoot a text out to all the local 86ers and find out if more would like to join in

ilpad 04-09-2014 04:59 PM

I think one thing to consider here is that a lot of our nembers are not track drivers but would still love to be there. We should consider two levels of commitment if we really are going to rent ORP for a day. We should have a track usage admission and a seperate spectator/bbq admission. We could all meet up in PDX and enjoy a drive out to the dalles area to ORP as a group and then then the racers would race and people who just want to relax and particpate by watching/video/photos would still be included. This could generate additional funding towards track rental that otherwise would go un used.

Could do like $40 (arbitrary number used) for a spectator/meet fee? If we had 20 extra people participate it would offset the fees for the drivers.

This would also really help with producing some fotage and photos for anytype of media that we want to produce. Eitherway its a great way to get others involved that otherwise would be left out that may want to see what all the fuss is about.

Good idea ilpad or stfu oldman? :)

Chen 04-09-2014 05:31 PM

Lol Warrenton had corrupted you! But I like your idea. But where would the food come from? The only thing I could think of would be like 10 costco pizzas but contribution would be cool. Or I guess donations work as well. But as of now. With just the people that had liked the orignal post. It doesn't seem like this will happen.

Decay107 04-09-2014 07:42 PM

@ae86andkp61 @torqdork @speedy are the ones I think would be interested. You guys know anyone else in the area?

speedy 04-10-2014 12:13 AM

Unfortunately, I suspect the only way this works is to throw out a wider net. Even the bigger clubs (BMW, PCA, etc...) let anyone drive to fill a track day, and that's even at the closer locales :(

DarrenDriven 04-10-2014 01:57 PM

I'm down to chill and watch... don't really have any interest in $300 for a day on the track. My car would melt down, prolly, haha!

I try to limit the text alerts to actual planned events... not as a feeler. I have to manually send out every text (10 minutes), and about 1/4 of ppl reply so I am swamped for an hour afterwards.

Chen 04-10-2014 02:05 PM

Lol forward me those numbers. I'll harass them.

I agree. Have the mega meet there, charge an admission price ($20?), have free prizes (I have so cheap stuff to give away), free food (maybe a token to get one meal like a hamburger and chips). Have an autocross portion for those that don't like track time (there are a lot out there), and also have a track day portion. Fees for both track and autocross. Call up venders and have them sponser/allow vender booths. We could turn this into the real deal and get media coverage if it got big enough! Am I going overboard? ;)
