Seat Belt Issue, Help!
I'm a female and I am 5'2. I got my FRS two months ago and am loving it, but the only problem I am having is the Seat Belt. Whenever I'm driving, I always have to pull the belt away from my neck, which is not safe when I'm trying to shift too. The belt snap on the seat doesn't help at all. The belt is angle to mid chest to my neck. I think it could be because I am short. I try to adjust the seat but it doesn't make a differences. Do anyone know what I can do to solve this? I am thinking of buying the seat belt shoulder pads, but I don't think it will help much.

one thing you could try pending on how high you can move the seat is get some slightly longer grade 8 bolts and you could try lifting the seat bracket with washers, when sitting in the seat do your shoulders line up with the top of your seat, or still below it

I believe below...

you may want to try getting a cushion to sit on, even if you raise the seat it will still have to go next to your neck so you need to raise the bottom seat

I'm not sure I'm picturing your problem correctly, but at 6' I also had seat belt issues when I first got the car. The edge of the belt was cutting into my neck and leaving a red streak there. I think it has to do with the angle of the belt over the shoulder of the seat rather than how tall you are.
I reduced the problem by buying a couple of cheap padded seat belt sleeves at O'Reilly. They wrap around the belt with velcro. You can spend a lot of money on the sleeves with logos, but mine are just plain black and were only $4 each. |

just get some seat belt shoulder pads... easy fix, and nice and soft on the neck.

I think I understand what you're experiencing. My seat belt "sneaks" up on me .... but, I just got into the habit of letting it back and re setting it a bit to give it less tension (a little slack). However, this technique has to be done every now and then. Now, my wife got herself one of those seat belt clamper things that fits on the belt part and doesn't allow it to retract any more than where it is set. Yes, folks, I know ..... that may very well be somewhat of a safety trade off ....... :( She also turns the headrest around backwards ..... cause it bugs her. Her theory is, that they way I drive, if we go off the side of a mountain ..... whiplash is going to be the least of her problems ..... humfrz |
Bought my wife the cushion below Not cheap but made well and looks like it's made for the car

Thanks for the infor everyone. I did some more research and I think I am going to try out the Seat Belt Adjuster:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Custom-Acc...uster/16795121 I feel like even if I get the shoulder pad, the belt doesn't angle correctly to my body. It makes me feel unsafe. So hopefully this Adjuster may help angle the belt to make me feel safer. Well, see if it helps. |
4 point harness?

The cause of the problem is where the top of the belt attaches to the car, but that thing adjusts the bottom instead. I wish there were an easy way to relocate the stock mounting point. |

I haven't got a chance to purchase one yet, but I believe it will help angle the belt to my body. It's not just the shoulder that is bothering me. It's the fact that the belt is more toward my right side, so I have to keep pulling it away from me. |
I dont see any mention of just raising the seat. OP did you adjust the seat height to its maximum postion? If you do the seat sits really high up (my head hits the roof).

I'm 5'5" and I have the neck problem, I normally resolve it by pinning my shirt between my neck and the seatbelt, or if I'm wearing a polo I just place the polo neck over the seatbelt.

check out what this guy did. He sells them on his site
I have been looking into this solution for a while and its pretty adjustable. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...2&postcount=50 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58620 |
i'm 5'2'' as well, and don't really have any seat belt issues once i adjust it so it sort of sits on my shoulder
i can understand what you're saying because if i don't use the little clip it will hit me in the neck..... i also have the seat up all the way, my knees are slightly bent so if i put my foot behind the brake pedal it would touch the floor behind it, and my arms are slightly bent so i'm not too close or too far from the steering wheel i also have the steering wheel out and down all the way if nothing works the only thing i would suggest would be a fluffy sleeve.....had those before for a giant altima that i literally needed a booster seat for, or a few phonebooks |

http://www.masterlink.ca/Files/Images/adjuster_new.jpg I had always liked the lambo door, but due to my height. I'm not sure if it's right for me. I might end up having a hard time trying to close the door hahaha... |
