Bad news for WRB Buyers in Canada...

I'm #1 at my dealership. My dealer just told me right now the only car that is at port that is destined for his dealership is my white one.

I asked him since I'm #2 if #1 decided to change his order from WRB to SWP would I be SOL and he told me no, it's definitely mine if I want it.

Now to the WRB part... He was told Subaru Canada took ALL the WRB BRZ's for press cars on the first 2 orders so that #1 at his dealership probably won't be looking at getting his WRB BRZ until August!

It's a smaller dealership so some of you who ordered WRB may be getting them sooner, but just a heads up... I would try to get VIN's and ETA's if you are #1 at your dealership and ordered a WRB. I'd also find out if your dealership has VIN's or ETA's for other colours that are further down on the pecking order. Because as I said, I'm #2 at my dealership but will be getting my car first because of the colour choice.

stateless 05-12-2012 07:51 PM

If that's true, that pisses me off... I'm in for wrb at a small dealership, and I'm not keen on waiting until August!

Enemies 05-12-2012 07:57 PM

stateless, are you #1 at your dealership or further down? Any WRB's ahead of you? Does your dealer have any VIN's yet or know if any of his cars are at port?

What I really want to find out is if anybody has been told if they have a WRB at port waiting for them? Because if so that's really good news for the rest.

stateless 05-12-2012 08:24 PM

I was #2 originally, then #1 left because there were no premiums allotted to the dealer, so I was bumped to #1. Then I found out they got a silver premium and sold it, presumably to the original #1, and it comes in on June 1st, which leads me to believe it was sent as a test drive vehicle which they used to fill the original #1's order.

This dealer is only getting three, and originally they were all sport tech, unless they traded one of those to get the silver premium. They were supposed to be only getting black, white and wrb. So now I'm next in line. The dealer sent me the VON a long while back but no VIN yet.

I had inquired about the VIN and the release date two weeks ago and was told the vehicle is still in Japan and they would update me when it leaves Vancouver. I asked if that meant a June delivery and they replied that my vehicle will be available in the first round of releases, and they would update me once corporate head office gives them more info. I'm not sure what that precisely means, and if August is still considered in the first round?

I'm heading to Kelowna in July and I'm really hoping to be driving the BRZ there...

Enemies 05-12-2012 08:41 PM

Imo 2 weeks isn't too often to contact your dealer and ask if he has any more information available.

If he knows your car is in Japan then he has a VIN. If he doesn't have a VIN then he's blowing smoke because he can't know anything about a car without a VIN.

With the VIN he can tell you all sorts of information. Once you have that you're golden. I was told when mine was loaded onto a boat, when it was on the boat, when it arrived, when it cleared customs, and as of April 28th my car has just been checked in and hasn't moved since. And it's looking like it'll still be about another 4 and a half weeks before it moves anywhere sadly.

Well, here's hoping you get your car for the trip. I'm in Kelowna as well so who knows, our 2 cars may be the only one's here by the time you come.

stateless 05-12-2012 08:57 PM

Yeah, I should contact them again on Monday and ask about the VIN. My guess is that they do not have one, which is why they just say it's in Japan. I'm going to ask them about the WRB issue.

If it's delayed I guess I'll have to wait. SWP is very tempting if they are getting it sooner (and would be my sixth white car in a row—the others all occurred by chance/circumstances as they were used cars and the best one each time happened to be white) but I'm pretty sold on the WRB and for once have a choice [maybe], so I dunno.

I was thinking I might potentially run into you there ;) Hopefully I'll be in the BRZ. If not, my dad is lending me his blue 350Z to try, so I'd probably take that instead of my WRX. Unless the BRZ comes in June, I probably won't have time to break it in. If it does come, I'm going to be spending every chance I get doing some long drives around the city. That's great news that yours is already here and waiting! Takes a bit of the stress out of it.

Enemies 05-12-2012 09:09 PM

Well, if you get it send me a PM when you come on down. My wife's a professional photographer so maybe we can get some cool shots at the top of Knox Mountain or something.

stateless 05-12-2012 09:45 PM

Thanks, will do!

Enemies 05-13-2012 04:44 AM

In the original message I meant to say I'm #2 at my dealership btw. Moved out to #1 apparently because of the lack of WRB's.

Anyway, if they really are doing a June 15th port release, it's a little annoying for another reason. You'd think their best advertising would be seeing this insanely cool looking car out on the road and getting more people talking about it.

SonnyBRZ 05-14-2012 01:55 PM

Oddly enough, about two weeks ago my dealer told me the first shipment is a WRB, but it's not for sell. It is meant to be placed at a near by golf course. The first order (which is me) will be a white sports tech and I think an additional silver at the same time.

Dave-ROR 05-14-2012 02:00 PM

How many WRB press cars for SoC need exactly?

Good question. It does seem ludicrous. Canada is a relatively small country. I can't even think of any well regarded Canadian car press sites that would need to spend serious time with the car.

Every paper has their own auto section but I can't see them handing out a car to each media outlet. You'd think they could maybe have 1 car available in Vancouver, another in Toronto and just have the media do their rounds in it.

With it being Monday now I'm hoping people can contact their dealerships and find out if their dealerships have VIN's for their WRB's (and if not, VIN's for the other 3 colours).

As I believe I've said before, if somebody can get a VIN # for their WRB with a promise to deliver next month then that can perhaps debunk what I was told. Be interesting to see as information starts to come out.

Dave-ROR 05-14-2012 03:58 PM

Yeah it just seems a bit crazy to me. I would suspect that your dealer is full of crap.. but.. who knows.. you canadians are crazy :)

Not sure it helps or not but I got the VIN for my BRZ sport Tech 6MT last Wed (May 9), last 3 digit is 745. But mine is Pearl white color, not sure if WRB make any different for the delivery date.

That's it. There are no good Canadian auto publications. The national ones are all rubbish online versions.

When Subaru introduced the facelifted WRX/WRX STi they had a big event at Calabogie outside Ottawa, which was a national event IIRC.

Surely no more than 6 WRBs should be required by Subaru Canada and what does it say that they promote the BRZ heavily with a car who's colour you cannot readily get from the dealer for a while? Meh.

Percy, what place were you at your dealership? #1? Further back? Would you be able to e-mail your dealer and find out if there were any other WRB's ahead of you in line and if so if your dealer received any VIN's/ETA's for it? I'm trying to do my best to see if there's any truth to a shortfall of WRB's for people. Thanks!

Also, did your dealer tell you when you could expect it? Mine has said a few days after June 15.

djdnz 05-14-2012 05:23 PM

Having put a deposit on a WRB, and hearing that my dealership says the earliest it will come in is late july-mid august, makes this sound at least a little believable.

They have a silver one they said I could have early June, but the WRB would be later.

I live in Calgary and order through Calgary Subaru. Yes, I am #1. I made the deposit in Dec 2011, quite a while ago. I am also the #1 FRS order through Toyota Canada, deposit made the same time.
Anyway I can email the dealership and see if they have any WRB in first shipment.
They didn't get me exact ETA yet, but they said around late May or early June. I AM NOT SURE IF MY BRZ WILL BE FIRST FOR DELIVERY OR NOT.
Let's see what happened.

Enemies 05-14-2012 07:05 PM

Oh man, I'm going to be livid if other people start getting their cars in late May if I'm made to wait until the latter half of June when I know my car has been on Canadian soil since April.

I did ask them and see below for the reply

Hello Percy,

Good to hear from you. I haven’t received any feedback from our distribution department regarding arrival eta’s for our BRZ’s. I only have 2 in my first batch and have about 10-12 orders to fill. I have a Blue one in the pipeline but that won’t be arriving until approximately late August / early September.

They are an extremely limited production car for Subaru, and even for us being the top volume dealer in Western Canada, we’re only getting 15 for the entire year.

Enemies 05-14-2012 08:05 PM

You'd think new WRB's would be arriving all the time. August at the soonest seems a little odd and I know it's not what people want to hear but it might be what people are looking at unfortunately if they ordered WRB.

Thanks for checking into it.

CoryUyede 05-15-2012 03:21 PM

Im going to email my salesman today and ask for a vin and status report.

pizzahead20 05-16-2012 12:11 AM

Spoke to my dealer (Richmond Hill Subaru) today. Asked him if he heard anything about a Canadian shortage of WRB BRZs and possible August delivery of WRB BRZs. He gave me good news and bad news. Good news (for me at least, haha) was his response to me: "Nope yours is reserved! The boat would have to sink for you not to get one!"

Bad news is he said release dates have been pushed back to mid-June. Anybody else who has a WRB on order heard anything from their dealer?

Pushed BACK to mid-june?...i've been told Mid june since the dawn of time ;)

I'm waiting to hear back from my salesmen to get a VIN. #1 + WRB at my dealer. I've been told I have a "factory order"

stateless 05-23-2012 05:33 PM

Talked to my dealer in Red Deer and my WRB has a VIN now and is set to arrive for mid-June. He said mine is an order and not an allocation, so it can't be re-routed. I suspect some [or all] dealers were allocated test drive vehicles which were instead used to fill some of the pre-orders, and perhaps it was some of these which were re-routed to press.

I'm getting my WRB or CBS through Subaru Calgary...I'm so screwed aren't I? I don't even know which place I'm in anymore. *sigh*

Maybe not. I went through Scott Subaru (Red Deer). I originally called Calgary Subaru and they claimed to not know how many vehicles they were getting in (yeah right, everyone else knew) and I'd have been 16th in line. They are apparently getting 15, at least that's what they told Percy recently. I'm not sure all of those will be at once, I have a feeling it might be stretched over a few months (but who knows).

At Red Deer I'm #1 on the list (or perhaps 2, if counting the silver premium they are getting in early which sounds more like an allocation than an order), and they knew they were getting three in (all w/ Sport Tech), so it was a no-brainer. I have not had good dealings with Calgary Subaru for service work, so that makes going to Red Deer a bonus. So far Red Deer has been very up front about everything and a real pleasure to deal with.

Sport-Tech 05-23-2012 07:12 PM

Can I ask what you guys are all paying for your BRZs? I assume MSRP? Any admin fees?

I am going in to order tomorrow.

stateless 05-23-2012 07:49 PM

I'm assuming MSRP, but I haven't asked yet. They seem like straight-shooters, so here's hoping.

I deal with Calgary Subaru couple times before for my Jaguar and Impreza, but it was few years ago. Service is OK for me.
The manager Mike seems like pretty good for return email, he usually reply me within an hour.
Last time he emailed and called me was two days ago for update, at that time he doesn't know anything about the launch date or ETA or finance rate yet.
He told me my white one will be first one in Alberta (I won't take it seriously since everything seems like unknown at this time). I just hope to get mine ASAP because I sold my other vehicle already.
Anyway it seems like funny because there is no demo car in Calgary yet (I guess it appear in Red Deer dealership once), so we might not even see the car until late June... lol

Just another update is Scion have NOT contact me for the FR-S delivery yet although I got the VIN# few weeks ago (two weeks ago Toyota system already show 'on the port' but now still don't see the car. So I assume BRZ will not appear until couple weeks AFTER they delivery the FR-S.

I don't think it will be the first one. Red Deer has a silver BRZ coming in June 1st which is sold. I don't think there will be any demo cars in Alberta.

This is exactly what I mean.

BTW, does the Silver one in Red Deer already take delivery? Or they just SAY it is going to be arrive in June 1st for delivery?

stateless 05-24-2012 04:26 PM

I'm not sure. I think normally they have to wait until the release date which I think is Jun 15, but that car sounds like it might be an allocation (like for a demo car) which might mean it can be delivered when it arrives. That's all guesswork though, I have no idea.

stateless 05-24-2012 04:28 PM

I could have went to see it (but not test drive it of course) on June 1, so I assume it will be there for that date.

Dub666 05-29-2012 01:18 AM

I ordered a wrb in the first batch. I have my vin. My salesman has a meeting in toronto in june 13 for the official launch. The cars should be availablebafter that

Yeah, the only date I've ever heard from my dealer was June 15th. And this was from communication back in February.
