Just Bought Mine Today!!
Hello ladies and gentlemen, my name is Ryan and I just lucked my way into a Scion FR-S and wanted to say hey to everyone. Toyota flew a guy from California out to Asheville, NC, so he could see the car and purchase it. Well he got there and realized he just got $8,000 worth of free travel and expenses and decided not to purchase the car. I happened to be looking at a used 370z at the dealership and wanted to see if they had a release date for the FR-S yet. The dealer told me the guy literally just passed up on the white one they had (1 of 2 in all of NC) and it was now for sale. Without hesitation I traded in my CR-Z and now have an FR-S in my driveway!
Does anyone know how many are out in the U.S. at this point? I would like to think that I'm one of the (very) lucky few. Either way, I'm incredibly excited and look forward to being a semi-productive member of your forum! |
welcome and...where is the pictures?
|
I would say you are quite lucky, considering, to my knowledge, that most of the First 86 members, myself included, haven't gotten their cars. In my case, and a few others, our cars are waiting at the dealership for a "release party."
Hope you're enjoying it in that beautiful town of yours! |
Congratz. Was the guy that passed on the car one of the "First 86"? If so you should ask for your FR-S car cover that those guys were getting.
|
Wow, good luck on your part! That's awesome! :w00t:
Now pics or it never happened! |
ORLY?
'Cause they aren't supposed to be sold before June 1st. I mean, I sell them, and that's what I've been told. So.... The whole story sounds fishy to me. Why would Toyota fly someone across country to buy one? doesn't make a whole lot of sense. But hey, I could always be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time. :dnftt: |

But it could also be possible the First 86'er didn't qualify for the purchase and it became available. Technically 86 should be done by the 18th, so it's likely not a HUGE deal. Most dealers had the 86ers come in to do their paperwork ahead of the actual purchase date to prevent an oddball scenario if there is the "event" and he can't really take the care home, lol. |
Pics or I don't believe it. U got a smartphone right? Pics bro! I want to see the sexy whiteout!

yeah, doesn't pass the smell test for me...
|
Doesnt sound right at all. Most of the FR-S' are landing in the Port of LA anyway. Why ship both the car and the owner to NC to get it??
|
Why would Toyota fly an individual across the country to buy a car? And where the hell did this $8000 number come from?
Sounds like BS from the dealer...but who cares, it's yours now! |
I'm pretty sure that the OP meant that they flew someone from Asheville, NC to California. This most likely means that it was a first86 that went to California and then when his frs got to the dealership in NC, he chose not to buy it.
|
trollolololol. If I counted correctly MAYBE 12 of the first 86 have their cars. Although they are all supposed to be in the hands of owners by may18.

I don't know...he appears to be the Real McCoy...:iono: See what I did there??? |

Give him a chance. So here's a chance to prove them wrong... or right.
Post a pic of the FR-S you w a paper of your SN on your diveway. It shouldn't be too hard, for you. If it's on your driveway, just in the morning, write your SN on the paper & you can add "F U! See this SOB!" in there w the paper along w FR-S on your driveway & take a pic, upload it, & all the member told you "you're troll" will get slap back of their head from me or they'll send you cheeseburger (priority mail lol). If you can't, our boss might make you dissapear... lol it's up to our boss to decide on the judgement on ya lol |
Proof!

I know the story sounds crazy. The part about the guy getting flown from Cali was what I heard from the guys at the dealership, so I guess I can't verify that 100%. I didn't get a car cover but I got a hat and a t-shirt and a $50 Shell gas card. Here's a couple of pics. I took the last one for my friends in NY (don't judge.. well, actually go for it, I probably have it coming), but I'll try to get one with my SN on it tomorrow morning!
|
Yea and dont forget to put your phone number address and social security number too^^^

OP just http://www.mustangworld.com/forums/i...lies/owned.gif some folks...lol
|
So, I figured out what the OP is talking about. Toyota flew the original buyer to California and back as part of the First 86 program and the guy bailed when the car actually showed up. (Not from Cal to NC). Basically, the original buyer was a first 86 program winner who had no real ability (or intention) to buy the car. That makes way more sense than someone being flown from Cal to NC to buy the car. Sounds like someone at the dealership had the story backwards. I figure that situation will be somewhat common since you could take the trip with no obligation to buy the vehicle.
Congrats on the new ride! |
Happy Mothers Day!

Thanks Quentin, and that sounds a lot more likely than what they told me at the dealer. They were all pretty pissed off either way. They said that if they didn't have the car sold by Monday it would hurt their chances of getting another one?
Anyway, here's a few more pictures I took this morning. Once my roommate left I could finally get 'er in the garage where she belongs. I can't get the second to flip, no matter how I re-save the file, sorry about that. What does OP mean? Oh, and I like my cheeseburgers medium with lettuce, tomatoes, and ketchup. Nothing fancy, Wendy's is fine. Please and thank you :happy0180: |
OP = Original Poster.
And congrats! |
Thank you!
|
Alright, you heard the man, all the member wrote troll, send the man the cheeseburger. Make sure to send em on priority mail, not overnight, so he won't be able to eat it lol
Anyways, congrats to you & welcome to the forum! |
And this is why I ignored this thread when it was reported :)
|
Awesome car and you are coolest dude on this forum right now! Enjoy.
|
Congrats! I never doubted this story :bellyroll:
|
Wow!! lmao....I wonder how many more first 86 folks will back out...
