Awesome review. Captures the essence of why this car was created.

SOON....

Jordo! 05-11-2012 12:20 AM

Good review. Looking forward to a test drive.

Evil86 05-11-2012 12:39 AM

I love the comparisions with the Audi TT because that is what I have been driving for the past four and a half years, and been autoxing a MX-5 (in STR) for a year now.

DeepHunta 05-11-2012 12:47 AM

In Jeremy Clarkson's words: SWEEEEEET! But then he'll turn around and want more "POWAAAHHHHHH!"

Good realistic review. No straighline speeds. It's a cornering machine. That "cornering" point is something I need to understand though.

And "easy" to swing the tail out? Mmmm...I'll be the judge of that. I hope it really is.

Elgancho 05-11-2012 12:47 AM

1. why do reviewers keep testing the AT?

2. why do magazines say "GET THIS MANUAL TRANSMISSION" and then point to the AT shifter?

:?

CoryUyede 05-11-2012 02:35 AM

Haha...anyone else find it funny the stereo illumination is green while the rest is red?:D

It's my '06 STI all over again. My sti had the ALL green illumination (HVAC, Stereo, Window switches) you'd find in a regular impreza, but the gauge cluster was all red. Took apart everything and soldered in red leds everywhere..lol

At least we get a better stereo over here (North America)

kensic 05-11-2012 02:43 AM

disagree with their #3. those steering wheel controls would make it a tad more fancier.

hate the toyota cruise control set up!!!! i want buttons for them

Could be a Subaru Cruise Control unit, my WRX has the SAME stalk. I don't use CC, so i'm not bothered. I WOULD like wheel controls though.

That's cuz its prety much a standard issue Toyota Stereo. The thing looks damn near identical to mine. (which illuminates green)

Goldo1802 05-11-2012 03:12 AM

????

Ehhh?? Where does it says it is green??

If you read the same article as I did it clealy says "subaru red and toyota green for the illumination of the radio"

Giccin 05-11-2012 03:54 AM

I like this. ;)

Xlr8 05-11-2012 04:23 AM

"It's about epic fun at reasonable speeds. So the fun last longer, and I can't see what's wrong with that."

Me either. That's MY point. I could go buy a crotch rocket that will hit 100+MPH fast than this car will get to 45MPH but who drives those speeds 99% of the time? I want a fun car that is engaging to drive not a drag racer that will get me 0 to 60 in under 5 seconds. A car that I enjoy and smile walking up to get into.

LOL

Anyway, 9/10 is very high for Top Gear. FWIW:
Code:

6-7/10 STI
  7/10 Megane RS265 Trophy
  9/10 GTI
  8/10 Civic R
7-8/10 Miata
  7/10 RX8
  5/10 MS3
7-8/10 EVO
7-8/10 Mini
7-9/10 3series
  8/10 M3
8-9/10 Cayman
7-8/10 370z

The numbers being all over the place makes me think the scale isn't especially meaningful, but that the BRZ got a 9/10 is still impressive.

My expectations are high for the test drive. Either this is going to knock my socks off, or it's going to be a "phantom menace" caliber letdown.

DarkSunrise 05-11-2012 09:24 AM

Just another check in a box as far as I'm concerned. I think I've read too many reviews, they all seem to be saying the same thing.

Although now having driven the FR-S, I can't say my review would be any different. Blah blah, rewarding car to drive, blah blah, barely usable rear seats, blah blah, need to rev the engine, blah blah, corners flat, blah blah rear end slides out ...oh wait that's actually kind of fun :D

ESBjiujitsu 05-11-2012 10:19 AM

hahahahaha i agree i cant even read reviews any more they all say the same thing....I want reviews of the supercharger lol ;):happy0180: still a great review though.

Draco-REX 05-11-2012 10:26 AM

Good read. I can't wait for them to get one on the show.

Hopefully Clarkson will have the same reaction to it as he did the RX-8. Though they might have one of the other two drive it.

Jezza will like it but want more POWAHH!

Capt. Slow will think it's great fun, but the 'Ring tuned suspension will kill it for him.

Hamster will love it, but say a used 911 is a better buy.

January '13 at best.

jonnyquest 05-11-2012 11:03 AM

This makes it real hard to try and wait it out for a possible STI version down the road. I cant wait for the phone call regarding the test drive.

That's the exact same quote that popped out at me too!

I'm not looking for a track monster. If my car ends up on a track it will probably be only a handful of times a year. The majority of the time will be spent on public roads. I want to be able to have fun driving without having to bend the law too egregiously.

As long as he doesn't drop a BRZ from a mile up off a helicopter in order for it to race a 911 I'll be okay with it.

I disagree.

Most reviews, including the recent Car and Driver print version, all make remarks about how counter-intuitive the standard touch screen NAV audio controls are. I wish we could opt for the stereo in the Euro version because it has actual knobs/buttons and I don't need or want NAV.

Spaceywilly 05-11-2012 02:55 PM

One nice thing about the nav we get is that it does have a 10 band EQ so it should be easy to get rid of the tinniness they mention

Sorry. I should specify i meant the headunits put in the "canadian" brzs. Its actually a pretty nice $800 pioneer unit . One id almost consider buying with my OWN money.

Yeah, it annoys me that reviewers spend so much time complaining about the back seats as if they have never driven a 4 seat 2 door coupe before. Most of us couldn't care less about the back seats. If we did, we'd be looking at 4 door sedans like the STI or Evo instead...

Unicorndog 05-11-2012 04:13 PM

Who needs back seats anyway? There are good enough. Plus, they prevent people from asking for rides and you don't have to worry about volunteering to drive anywhere ;)

Sad that Top Gear won't be making another Season until 2013... We will never see a Zx6 review until the MY13 one is probably out...

At least we have TG Mag!!

Not necessarily. If they film segments in Nov/Dec/Jan for the next series - which could presumably kickoff at Christmas time - they'll be driving the current version and the one that will still be on the forecourts.

Mmm, true that!

Still sucks that we won't see a review until next year... I was hoping for one at the end of the last season!
