"Subscribed" "Subbed" Who Cares?

What purpose is there in saying you've subscribed to a thread? This is all the poster has written. Would it be bad form for me to reply "thanks for sharing" or "thanks for your interesting contribution to this thread"? I don't understand.

AG3NT_5CARFAC3 03-12-2014 01:33 AM

It means that when there is a new post to the thread, you get to notice (email) stating there is a new comment.

Also, I sub'd to this thread lol

Forum lingo....they didnt have the option to subcribe to a thread back in the day and alot of people dont know theres an option NOW to subscribe without actually posting in a thread in the thread tools option.

ZionsWrath 03-12-2014 02:58 AM

There is a forum setting to Subscribe to updates to threads you post in. When someone posts in a thread with this setting and says "subbed" that's exactly what they're doing.

Who pissed in your Cheerios brand cereal this morning?

THIS

in fact most forums will have left on default notifications of new posts, quotes, mentions, etc etc

sshole 03-12-2014 11:26 AM

Why do people keep making threads asking which exhaust/suspension/doodad is the best?

It's because people are stupid.

Also, in before I get points/banned for using sarcasm on this forum.

Typing it out is also a way to let the OP or other thread peeps know there's additional interest instead of doing it invisibly via the thread tools menu. Not any different than posting the popcorn emoticon.

"bump" moves the thread back to the top of the subforum. Some vendor was using bump pics that were lol worthy. So I lol'd at them.

sklimo 03-13-2014 12:11 AM

I thought bumps had to do with coke

Yep, it's a way to visibly express interest in the thread, so OP/others know to keep the conversation going with updates, etc.

For example, if I start a DIY on installing a... I don't know... a coffee cup warmer in my console, I may never finish it or post pics unless I know people are interested in the results.

And, as mentioned, contributing to the thread subscribes you to the thread. A quick way to mark what you're currently interested in, and automatically receive notifications if your profile is set up that way.
