Gas Station Rant

/Begin rant

I always fill up at the same station , a full serve gulf in my town that doesn't charge extra for credit cards. Always been good to me.

I pull in tonight and the light has been on for a bit so I need a whole tank. The fiance and I pull up, the only car in the station, and the attendent comes out.

Window down I ask for a fill of premium (93 here). He goes about his thing, I fiddle with the G and S settings while I fill up and think to glance over to see how many gallons I'm up to. Much to my surprise I'm up to 10.9 gallons ... of 87.

Just as I see this it clicks off cause I'm full. I ask the guy if he filled it with regular :

Guy: yea.
Me: I asked for premium.
Guy: <blank stare> I can , ah, give you one of those booster things?
Me: ... No, forget it.

Annnnd scene.

I know it's one tank and it won't hurt anything but fuck, man, YOU HAD ONE JOB!!! ONE. FAAAAAAACK!!!!

Top it off when I get home my pho didn't come with any hot peppers. I love those things.

Goddamnit.

End rant/

Do you notice any performance change?

The station is about a mile from my house so it wasn't exactly a good test. I didn't notice anything but I'm expecting to notice more in the mileage department.

first world problems bro.

People be die'n n starvi'n n shit you be worried bout gas

wuz dis werld comin 2?

t.chk 03-11-2014 10:59 PM

Dis why I pump my own gas (I know you probably live where you cant) but still.

People get paid to mess up peoples orders of refined liquid dinosaurs.

Would have totally hit em up for the octane booster and for some fuel injector cleaner for free. Otherwise threaten to call have have the tank pumped and have them put the correct stuff, foot them the bill.

just saying.

Maybe if he gave me the right gas and my car was more fuel efficient it would run cleaner and reduce the greenhouse effect just enough to shift the polar vortex and allow a farmer to grow a little more food this spring and then sell it at market for a little less allowing that starv'n person to afford a corn based Frito lay product.

Or maybe I'm as asshole. Either way :)

It should have been 3.79. The regular was 3.49. Much savings.

I'm in MA , are you in CA? CT blows to buy gas too.

Nope NY the most hateful state in the union :)

LDN2012 03-11-2014 11:30 PM

Don't complain about the price! $1.40 CDN a litter here or $5.31/gallon :mad0260::cry:

Phothiraj 03-11-2014 11:47 PM

I payed 4.19/Gal today. Ct is not where gas should be bought.

I now understand why you all apologize to each other all the time...that is ridiculous.

Turbo95eg6 03-12-2014 12:03 AM

I know everyone is equal, no matter what job you have... but seriously, some gas attendants are just worthless. I've seen them spill gas on my car many times, it can't be that hard to do a simple job.

I'm sorry those prices are so high.

Am I doing this right?

Maybe you should pump your own gas from now on if it's that important to you?

Dwood11 03-12-2014 12:40 AM

Is that there one of those there fancy states where you can't pump
Your own gas?

Dude I can't even find a station that will actually pump gas for me. Seriously!

But in all seriousness don't go full throttle everywhere and you will be fine for a tank.

Havsie 03-12-2014 01:25 AM

I'm always afraid of this happening to me. Luckily for you, it's not illegal to pump your own gas there.

It's just a fact of life here in New Jersey though.

_______ 03-12-2014 02:34 AM

Yeah this has happened to me a couple times. Living in NJ every station is full service so i get annoyed sometimes that I can't fill my own tank. Luckily when it happened to me I wasn't filling up so I was able to get 93 somewhere else to balance it out a bit. Once you burn about half or so fill it up with 93.

Drive 03-12-2014 02:39 AM

Gas prices are going up here... paid $4.15/gal the other day.

Do you guys have to tip?

cjsporl1996 03-12-2014 02:48 AM

Maybe I can give some input on this rant. I have a part time job at a gas station since I'm still in High School. To be honest even if you tell the attendant to fill it 93 hitting 87 is a force of habit and sometimes we make mistakes. I take careful measures to make sure I don't spill gas on people's cars but we are all human and mistakes will be made. Oh and I'm freaking tired of people with Audi's BMW's etc getting 87 octane gas. I mean really of you can afford a 50,000 dollar car you think you could spend the money to put the proper gas in your car.

I hear ya. We all make mistakes and that is completely understandable.

For me, yesterday, it struck a chord and I came to the Internets to rant. I'm sure he's not a bad person. Although for me, last night, he was a bad gas station attendant.

You think they own those cars? You think that the normal Audi/BMW/MB driver is an owner of their vehicle?

Most people who drive German luxury vehicles lease. So they couldn't care less what they're putting into the car. They're going to return that sumbitch at the end of the 2 year lease period anyways.

Also, a lot of the BMW drivers I know can barely afford their lease payment.

My '09 328xi called for 91 RON which is equal to 87 here in the states.

Funny enough, i ran into this same issue this past sunday. I was driving back from portland in the newly purchased P5, asked the dude to fill up with premium, realized my beater doesn't need it, said oh wait, make that regular. He'd already started filling the car up with regular.

At my store (wawa) we are not allowed to check engine oil. I believe someone at the company put gas in where the oil goes.

Exactly. Your car will be pulling timing like crazy trying to keep it out of knock (we're talking IAMs of around a constant .5 or worse), but it shouldn't be noticable if you granny drive/shift it for a tank.

I WOULD put in octane booster next tank before you begin pumping gas, so there's SOMETHING boosting the octane before the fuel lines are flushed of 87.

Edit: I pay about $3.55-$3.70/gal for 91 (highest we can get here.... midgrade is 89). Screw the northeast, your gas prices are as horrendous as CA's.

Simon99 03-12-2014 04:52 PM

Wo wo hold on, I didn't quite get that.. there are some states where it's ILLEGAL to pump your own gas ?? No disrespect at all, but you guys fucking carry MP5 and shit when walking your dogs but it's supposedly too dangerous to fill a gaz tank ? What the actual fuck ? Hahaha
