Revolutions Performance RP400 GTX Turbo Kits- Dyno Results
9 Attachment(s)
We are pleased to announce the release of the REVOLUTIONS PERFORMANCE GTX2867 Turbo kit. This kit is designed to fit on a 100% stock car and will double the stock horsepower output. It is designed and built in our shop in Colorado Springs using the finest components available. The heart of the kit is a ball bearing Garrett GTX2867r turbocharger with a Tial vband housing in .63 a/r. We use Turbosmart wastegates and blowoff valves. The kits can be constructed in open dump or recirculated wastegate. This kit does not require any cutting to any factory component except a hole in the metal under tray to run the external dump pipe if you run the under tray. The bumper beam is not cut at all. The washer tank is also completely untouched. This is the shortest possible route for intercooler piping without cutting the bumper beam. See our thread in the Classifieds section for pricing. PM me or post questions here!
The dyno sheets below are from my car. The car was 100% stock before adding the turbo kit. On our dyno the car made 159.9 WHP Stock. By installing only the turbo kit and tuning the car we increased power output by 100% to 319.9 WHP. This car was dyno tuned on 91 octane. All components besides what comes with the turbo kit are stock. This was done on the stock exhaust system, stock fuel system, and with just 8psi of boost. These numbers were achieved with the vent to atmosphere wastegate. We have since installed a recirculating wastegate on my car and I will post a new dyno graph if there are any differences in power output due to exhaust restriction. I also plan to run the car on a local dynojet soon as well for comparison purposes. Some other common questions I have gotten are here: Why did you choose the GTX2867R Turbocharger? We have made the decision to only offer our kits with the GT and GTX line of Garrett turbochargers. We have extensive motorsports experience with events such as Rally America, The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, X-Games, where we support many Garrett Sponsored teams. In consultation with the engineers in the motorsports division at Garrett we chose the GTX2867R for it's fast spool times, it's maximum HP output and packaging. We have found this turbo to spool by 4000RPM even at our extreme elevation (6300 ft above sea level.) We expect this turbo to perform even better at lower elevations, with about 500rpm faster spool. This turbo will support around 450whp at maximum. We also offer the full line of GT and GTX Garrett Turbos up to the GTX3582 for a little more money. All of our kits use the Tial V-Band Exhaust housings. These are lighter, smaller and perform better than the traditional T3 housings. The larger turbochargers will require fuel system changes and exhaust system changes. What comes in the kit? This kit is designed and manufactured right here in Colorado Springs, CO using some of the finest components available in our industry. Here is a complete list of what is included with our kits: Custom, equal length, Schedule 10-304 Stainless Exhaust manifold with new OEM gaskets. Custom Up-pipe to fit Tial V-band exhaust housings Custom 3” downpipe to fit Tial v-band exhaust housings and mate to the stock exhaust system. Garrett GTX2867R Turbocharger with Tial V-band Stainless Exhaust Housing Turbosmart Race Port Blowoff valve Turbosmart 40mm Wastegate configured for open dump (Recirculation to downpipe is optional for additional cost) Mishimoto Intercooler Core with custom brackets Custom intercooler piping with blowthrough MAF and T-BOLT clamps Wires and instructions to extend MAF sensor connector New oil pan with pre-tapped drain fitting Oil Feed fitting and line Oil return fittings and pre-made -10an line Turbo coolant lines Base map for startup (ECUTEK License and cable not included) Detailed installation manual on thumb drive Do you offer tuning? Our shop is located at over 6300 ft above sea level. We have developed the base map for this kit to be conservative at lower elevations. The map is designed to allow you to get to a local dyno tuner for adjustment. It will work to drive around safely, but you will be leaving some power on the table. Because we are at such high elevation we do not offer any e-tuning unless you are at a very similar elevation to us. We do this for your safety in getting you the best tune possible. We would be happy to install the kit and tune it for you in our shop if you are local. How safe is this kit for the engine? Whenever you modify a car there is an inherent amount of risk involved. That being said, we have put over 1000 miles on our shop car so far with zero issues. It has been proven that the stock motors can take a lot of horsepower before having any issues. It seems that most of the issues experienced by customers with turbo kits are due to poor tuning and not an inherent weakness in the engine. That being said, we do offer built engines for those who want the piece of mind of having upgraded components. PM me for more information on this program. Any issues with melting the fans? This was a concern I had myself when designing this kit. I researched all of the other kits on the market and found that some were using slim fans and some were not. What we found is that many of the kits are built with the turbo closer to the fans. When using the larger T3 hot sides of most of the other kits it is unavoidable to place them closer to the fans. With our V-Band housings we We built this kit to use as many stock components as possible. We have done extensive testing (including some open lapping on track) with ZERO melting issues. We will continue to monitor the situation as temps near us rise as well. What warranty is offered? We warrant the kit for any and all manufacturers defects. The fabricated parts (header, charge piping, up-pipe, downpipe) carry a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser. The other components will follow the manufacturers warranty guidelines. All warranty claims must be processed through us. We will not be responsible for any labor charges incurred in the processing of warranty claims. This kit is to be considered "off road use only" and may not meet your local emissions requirements. Check with the emissions office in your area to verify. We will not be responsible for any engine damage that occurs during the use of this kit. If you have any other questions not answered here please PM me or post in this thread. |
Interesting take on the intercooler piping.

Creative piping, I like it!

Price of kit??

Perfect turbo for this car. Have you run into any issues with heat and the hot parts near the radiator fans? I think the JDL kit comes with SPAL slim fans to kind of move them away from the heat.
Also any thoughts about including a turbo blanket? |
Thanks, here's from the FAQ:

Looking good...I am always puzzled by why the rush to the 3xx series of turbines when the new billet t25 turbos can hit nearly 400whp. Really like the piping design...nice and short. Big and tortuous pipes just worsen spool with no benefit.

Thanks for the compliment. We have done a bunch of testing with different pipe diameters and lengths on other cars. On one of our shop STI's we actually picked up 300 RPM of spool and made a little more power on an FP RED STI when switching from 3" piping to 2" piping. If this kit was not blowthrough maf we would have done small piping to the throttlebody as well. We paid careful attention to the maf location, too. We wanted the straightest section of pipe possible, away from sources of reversion (Like the throttle plate.) This does require lengthening the maf sensor wiring, but we felt it was the best option for great drivability. We were not willing to compromise the saftey of our customers by requiring them to cut the factory crash beam. There is, however, a tiny section of the edge of the beam on the driver's side which must be bent in for proper piping fitment. This bend is totally reversible if the kit is ever removed, though. We get snow here in Colorado, so not having a windshield washer fluid reservoir is not an option, either. We also put the BOV in the fender to keep the engine bay cleaner. |
Hmmm interesting numbers on 91 octane :)

Not to turn this into an argument or debate, supporting mods might only be a pump and injectors ; in addition you would need sticky tires and you would manage to slay corners too Great kit and nice interesting pipe routing Goodluck Sent from my IBrick |
Nice kit for sure. I don't like the 0.63 a/r turbine housing on the 2867r. Its not well matched IMO.
The gains that the 2867r has over the 2863r, are being restricted by the 0.63 housing. 2863r 0.63 or 2867r 0.86, is what I think will be a better balanced turbo. I reckon even if I went 2863r, I'd do 0.86 a/r. Certainly would with a 2867r. |

We are also going to offer a Naturally Aspirated version of this header for the guys who aren't ready to drop the cash on going turbocharged yet. Here's a sneak peak. These are going to retail for $899. I have not had a chance to pull the turbo kit off of mine to test the gains yet, but I expect them to be significant.

It is hard to say how much it would hurt spool and response until someone tries one. Also comes down to how much power you really want. We need one of these turbo kit vendors to do a turbo shootout. :). |
if i lived in colorado id love to go get this kit since i have family in colorado springs..but i live in tx lol totally different weather and elevation from you guys
|
Will it fit an automatic?
I would expect it to, but better safe than sorry. |
To be honest I have not put it on an automatic yet, but I don't see why it would not. All the other front mount kits do not have any issues with the auto. That being said, we make everything in house so if there is a part that did not fit it would not be a problem to engineer a solution.

The hard parts of the kit don't change with elevation. All you would need is a competent local tuner to tune it for your elevation. The base map will be safe to drive it to them. |

More kits in progress. First customer kit has been sold. I'll have pictures of the coated hot parts soon. For now, here are some pictures of our hand-made collectors and headers in progress.
|
That is one seriously solid looking jig. That header should not be coming back for fitment issues.

Going to test some ceramic coatings for our Brz/Frs turbo kits. The second one from the right supports over 2000 degrees and is a thermal barrier, reducing external temps by 60% and decreasing spool time. The one on the right reduces temps by about 30%. The others are ceramic coatings, but are not thermal barriers.

Here's a few pictures of the inside of our up-pipe. As you can see the alignment is perfect and everything is packpurged and welded cleanly. No unsightly power-robbing gaps.

This is a VERY impressive turbo kit, I like it a lot. If I was interested in turbo, I would be highly considering this.
I love the piping layout, very intuitive. It's also built out of really nice stuff, just the way I would do it. Perfect turbo selection too IMO. If I changed one thing, I would make the wastegate recirc back into the downpipe, though I'm sure this is a configuration you would be able to support. I had a dump pipe for a while on my last car; it was fun for a while but then it got annoying! Nice job guys! |

Definitely a pricey kit for not including any fuel components compared to your competition of Full Blown, P&L, RevWorks, and MAP. I really like the intercooler piping and the fact it allows the use of the OEM fans. Can we get some more detailed pics of the driver side fan clearance?
|
Quote:
I will take some pictures of the fan clearance tomorrow. I won't comment on the prices of the other vendors' kits other than to say that if you make an apples to apples comparison of the parts in each kit you will find ours to be competitively priced. Many of the other kits use cheaper, journal bearing turbos, most do not have Tial turbine housings, etc. When you add these options to their kits they come out very close to ours. Could we build a cheaper turbo kit? Sure! We chose to make a high-end turbo kit, though. We do not want to try to compete at the bottom of the market. The way I see it, that market is pretty flooded. We want to target the customer who understands the benefits of our higher quality parts and who knows that the best parts cost a little more but provide that extra boost in horsepower. Think of it as Rota vs Volks. That being said, the kit is modular. In the future, if the high-end market does not pan out, we can always make an entry level turbo kit with older technology and less expensive parts. We prefer to be innovators and use the best products available rather than copy what others have done, though. |
I want this sooooo bad :burnrubber: I'm just too afraid with trying to keep the stock warranty intact.
That being said, you other people should buy this kit! I've dealt with Adam and his guys at Revolutions Performance and they don't joke around :respekt: Super friendly and helpful too! Going to be getting my stage 1 NA tune, exhaust (headers+header back), pulleys (I don't trust myself lol), and final drive gear done there hopefully veeeery soon  |

As I mentioned before, this kit is modular and we are offering a naturally aspirated option for people who aren't ready to go turbo, but want the option in the future. Here's a few on car pictures showing the fitment of the NA Header. I will post some dyno sheets soon.

Only 3 Kits left at our introductory pricing. We are hard at work building more manifolds this week. I should have 3 more kits ready to go by the end of next week.
