Raven's WORKS Turbo Charged Daily Driver
10 Attachment(s)
The plan is to build a clean, fast, reliable (as reliable as possible given forced induction) daily driver without breaking the bank:
So, after much going back and forth, I decided on the WORKS Turbo kit. I know the haters out there will bitch and moan, but for the money, reliability of the components, ease of install, and power levels that I'm looking for it's a no brainer. I created a thread on the entire progress (http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87595). Performance WORKS Motorsports Stage 1 Turbo Kit (will be upgrading to stage 2 in the future) Open Flash Tablet W E85/93 tune's (will be switching to ECUTEK when turbo is installed since tuner only tunes with ECUTEK) Perrin Panel Filter IKON Motorsports Cat back Exhaust (Q300 Replica) with custom 3" mid pipe. Manzo Engineering Front pipe, will be replaced with custom 3" front pipe. Manzo Engineering Over pipe, will be replace with custom 3" over pipe. The compromises allowed me to mod my car the way I wanted without having to get out a second mortgage on my house. Reviews: Phantom ESC- I ordered the Phantom ESC before I even picked up the car. I think it's safe to say I was way over zealous. Anyway, after my break in period was over I installed the kit. Install- the kit is by far the easiest of any Forced Induction kit out there to install. Installing it for the first time takes about an hour, but after that removing it can be done in around 30minutes for dealer visits or whatever the case may be. It takes very little mechanical knowledge and basic hand tools. Performance- The Phantom Esc gives you a tremendous amount of torque down low, much more than even the traditional Forced Induction kits offer, that cost three of four times as much. You will spin tires if you go WOT from a stop. The added torque allows you to pass other cars with ease, and makes driving this car in a straight line fun. Driving with the system unengaged feels just as it would driving stock. The added horsepower is nice as well, however this might be the only downside when compared to the traditional FI kits. The ESC with E85 and bolt on's puts you right around the 230 wheel horsepower area, while impressive, it's lacking compared to other kits. However, one must realize it's also a lot more affordable. Tuning- Tuning the ESC with the OFT is as simple as flashing a new map. The map is free if you own an OFT and works perfectly without any tinkering. Shiv has managed to work his magic again. Tunes can be had with E85 and 91/93 octane for the ESC. Quality- Components of the kit are very high quality and durable. Rob makes sure everything is tested over and over again and all faults are taken care of before his products are released to the public. Additionally, if an issue does arise he will answer back in a very timely manner and always provides a solution. This is truly a quality product, and a developer who stands behind his work. Overall- For the money this kit cannot be beaten! It offers a huge increase in torque, a hefty boost in horsepower, very simple installation, flash and go tuning, consists of reliable high quality components, and is backed by its producer 100%. With that said will this kit feel the same as a Traditional FI kit? Well, depends on the kit, but most likely no. The powerbands are different. This provides much more low end torque where most traditional kits offer a lot more top end power. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. For the price point though, this kit is unbeatable. Mine was an 84 and it was badged as a Datsun! I paid 450 bucks for it only problem was a little hatch rust and a loose wire in the digital speed which caused it not to work. Fixed it dded it for about 6 months while i working on a RHD s13 that i never got a chance to finish. But the z31 had a custom 3 inch carless exhaust and that was about it. |

Finally got my EVO 8 back from IPS Motorsports and will hopefully be trading it in for my Firestorm 6mt today! If I trusted it not to fall apart I would keep it in a heart beat... I have literally replaced ever part on this car
With the shep racing ultimate racing trans, cammed and full bolt ons she put down some impressive numbers and pulls like a bitch. Well here she is for what might be the last time...:( Attachment 70642 Attachment 70643 |
Turns out the EVO didn't even last a day. Started popping out of fifth gear on the way to the dealer, leaking oil from somewhere and banging when coming to a stop. Needless to say when all was said and done I was able to make a deal and I am now the owner of a 2013 Firestorm FRS....What this means is next week should be full of installs and updates! :) But for the weekend I will be enjoying her stock, already put 130 miles on her!
Oh and pics will be up tomorrow pending weather lol |

Exhaust is installed! Pics and video tomorrow!
Exhaust Review: First off I want to say that I got this exhaust for only $370 shipped. I thought this was a great deal however there were some issues. First off the install was rather complicated as they only sent one bolt. The bolt they sent didn't fit at all requiring a run to the hardware store. In addition as you can see in the pics the exhaust hangs lower on the one side. It's not as noticeable in person but is still annoying. I plan to adjust the hangers and see if I can get the tips to sit even. With all that aside the exhaust sounds amazing, absolutely zero rasp and is loud without being annoying . The build quality is great also and the welds are spot on. If it weren't for the missing hardware and the off fitment I would give this exhaust a 10/10 especially for the price. It's been awhile since I have updated this thread. I just wanted to give my input on the Phantom ESC. It has made a night and day difference. the torque reminds me of my old 350z. This seriously made me fall in love with this car all over again. In addition Rob's customer service has been exceptional. If anyone is on the fence with this kit don't be. I assure you you will be pleased

I will be installing the 1.5 conversion today! Do you have build thread? |
Sweet! :D
Well, if it's really worth it i'd wait it out ;) Your 86 must be pushing quite some horses! Sucks that we're not allowed to install turbochargers on N/A cars here in Belgium... I'm still a student tho so it's not like i could afford it immediately :p And nah bro, my car is still pretty stock so no build thread yet, it's not going to be worth it. Maybe once i get suspension & wheels done! :D I'm sub'd to yours tho! I'm curious what beast this will become in the long run! Grtz |
