Exhaust Purchase

Hi, im looking to purchase a new exhaust. Any shops you guys can recommend locally (GTA/Mississauga/Brampton ect..) for the best prices?
Looking to spend about $800, i already have a few exhausts in mind, but if you guys would like, id like to hear what you guys have and how your liking em so far.

Ill be looking to sell my JDM exhaust tips also when i get a new exhaust setup. They have about 1-2k km's on them, got them in October 2013 and the brz barely gets driven in the winter. So if your interested, just drop me a pm and ill let you know first when their available for sale, will be $130 OBO.

Thanks, Wilson

For that amount of $, I would go with a Perrin 2.5" non resonated. If you know how to jack up your car and use basic hand tools, you can install it yourself in less than an hour.

I don't live in Toronto so I can't suggest any shops

Garage16 for the Q300 or Greddy SP Elite. They seem to have the lowest prices.

Install at iGarage

thanks drewbot, the Greddy Sp is on the short list im considering, im just afraid it might be abit too quiet

Non-resonated exhaust drones like a bitch when cruising on the highway imho (have experience with Milltek both resonated and non-resonated on VW).

Driving a Porsche is plenty loud but it doesn't drone. Just sayin'

headlikeahole 03-04-2014 10:33 PM

I'll take those tips off your hands if you're willing to ship them. Pm me if you are.

Currently only looking for local meetups, thanks

I love my Invidia Q300.... gives a really nice sound and installs perfectly, never had any problems. Sounds even better with the front pipe that you can get later on down the road if you wish!

+1
I also have the Q300. Its a little subtle but its nice when over 3k. Not overly loud too and doesn't sound like a fart can.

If it's a 911, it's partially because the exhaust doesn't run under the passenger cabin at all too.

A relative of mine has a 993 with a much louder exhaust than my Perrin 2.5" resonated, but at part throttle inside the car mine is actually louder. No drone on either, and the 993 is substantially louder from outside the car.

To the OP, if you want to hear a Perrin 2.5" resonated (with 2.5" catted front pipe) in person and you're in the GTA let me know and you can hear mine sometime.

I've driven my friend's stock 986 a few times, the sound is amazingly good (even better with the top down believe it or not) and quite loud behind the seats.

I just find droning quite annoying at cruising rpm with non-resonated exhausts where cranking up the radio will not fix. :iono:

wparsons 03-06-2014 08:08 AM

^^ Agreed on the droning, definitely not something you want in a car you drive anything resembling daily.

The SP is quiet on idle, but has an okay tone when gunning it. I loved it for what it was, but if you want that full grumble or that nice tone, then you want to go cat-back.
From a former SP elite owner.

krayzie 03-06-2014 11:39 AM

Just got the STI Sports Muffler on the car. Can't believe how much more flush it fits than the stock one with JDM tips. The tone is much deeper now and it growls at a higher rpm than stock, so now if I drive by sound I'm actually driving 10 to 15km/h faster than before (with stock I was always below 60km/h on the road and people would tell me to GTFO).

Overall a little bit louder than the stock muffler, which is okay since the stock audio system sucks anyway!

Wilson15 03-06-2014 04:15 PM

Thanks for the input guys, iv been looking at the borla, any of you know how that compares to the perrin?

1Cor10:23 03-06-2014 04:46 PM

Give alphamotorsports a call, they quoted me ~$900 CDN tax-in for a Perrin 2.5 resonated. If I didn't pony-up for the 3" I would have bought these.

Did you get this? http://www.aj-racing.com/shop/produc...cat=422&page=3

Found a sound clip on YouTube kind of like it actually how much did you pay for yours and where if you don't mind me asking?

Borla sounds nice but the design is different than Perrin and the other aftermarket exhausts. The muffler is located where most exhausts place their resonator, and being much larger may cause clearance issues, at least in my opinion and some others on the forum. Also I haven't met anyone with or seen many videos with the Borla catback.

Wilson15 03-06-2014 09:03 PM

yea iv heard of the clearance issue, how the muffler on the borla sits about .5-2 inches lower than stock, but i currently have no plans for a drop YET, haha. so i should be good on that. And i heard people say there's no drone which is why im really interested in the borla, can anyone confirm this?

Aaron.H 03-06-2014 09:58 PM

if interested in no drone & price is factor. the invidia Q300 is your probably your best bet
imo

Yes that is what I bought from Japanparts. My bill is in Japanese yen but it's around $2200CAD altogether w/ custom charges included. Once you order, it takes about 3 weeks to manufacture in Japan, and then a week to get here by FedEx (I'm pretty sure the exhaust is made by Tanabe).

At 2000rpm and at redline, it sounds pretty much the same as stock, but from 2000rpm onwards the growl is much deeper and I can hear my throttle much clearer.

At first I thought it was the growl at different rpm range that is making me driving faster. But I ended up driving all day long today and my throttle response is alot smoother now (this is the reason why), and it's not in my head.

If you want to hear a Perrin 2.5" resonated, let me know... I'll take you for a drive sometime, under whatever conditions you want to hear (city, highway, etc). I also have their (now discontinued) 2.5" catted front pipe. Zero drone at all.

krayzie 03-07-2014 10:29 AM

Sorry just want to know what's the diameter of the stock downpipe?

Wparsons, hopefully I can jump in on that offer. I'm looking at a few options for an exhaust this summer and of course, youtube clips aren't the same as the real thing. If it's cool, I'll shoot you a msg and come by your area for a test drive :)

Kazuya 03-07-2014 11:37 PM

If anyone here has Perrin Cat, Q300/N1 or Evo 3/SP Elite and willing to let me hear it in person, please message me, im cat-back shopping right now as well.

Someone should plan a brz/frs meet in Scarborough soon since the weather is warming up. I'll bring my q300 but also interested to hear what the Perrin/greddy/n1 sounds like in person too.

Yep, works for me! I work at Yonge/Eg and drive to work, so if you're in that area we could meet up at lunch or after work as well.

You can hear mine anytime. 2.5" resonated cat back and 2.5" catted front pipe.

I'm bored and have the stock parts downstairs. Info is already on the forum I'm sure.

Over-pipe (once heat-shielding it off) is 2.1" outer diameter, very twisty and has a very noticeable indentation in it closer to the header, for extra clearance I guess.

Front-pipe is 2.1" outer diameter (closer to the over-pipe) going into the catalytic converter. The majority of the front-pipe, which comes out after the catalytic converter, is 2.3" outer diameter.

The piping is fairly thick, bringing the inner diameter down at least 0.1" less than the outer diameter.

sixthree 03-09-2014 02:39 PM

I would be down for a meet in scarborough or markham. I'll bring my Q300 too :)

Calling @Taro.

Lots of interest in a pre-spring exhaust meet lol

Taro 03-09-2014 04:59 PM

Haha, okay. How many people want to go?

krayzie 03-09-2014 05:50 PM

But "Exhaust Meet" sounds like trouble (no pun intended) with mall security lol!

Should find an open parking lot that doesn't have much traffic. Why don't you guys come up with some suggestions on location and which day and time of the week (i.e. Kennedy Commons on a weekday evening - the JDM ricers used to pack William Kitchen Road Timmy's and outside Chapters on Wed nights, VDubs were on Monday nights outside Rona).

BTW please avoid Wednesday nights at Kennedy Commons as it gets ghetto like this especially during the summer:

Exhaust Purchase

There is a Rona that just shut down close to my apartment and that parking lot is open all the time. Also not really close to any houses or anything like that. I highly doubt we would have any kind of problem there.

Its at Kennedy and the 401. Search William Kitchen Road on google maps and its right in there besides the pets mart.

For people offering rides its a good location because you can go around the block to show what it sounds like in the city or you can jump on the highway which is right there.

I am good for any week night except for mondays

Here's a picture of the parking lot from my balcony. The area in front of that transport truck is always open and could easily fit over 50 cars if we wanted. You can also see the proximity of the highway at the bottom of the pic.

I believe that is kennedy commons. Good place for a meet but like others have said, avoid weds loll testosterone fest at night.

wparsons 03-09-2014 10:18 PM

Somewhere in that area works great for me, I can just drop by on my way home!

Keep me posted if it's happening, I'll gladly give some rides!

Taro 03-10-2014 12:21 AM

If you guys wanna come up to Markham, plenty of open spaces here. I'm not much of an exhaust guy, but I'll drop by if you guys are hanging out.

Wilson15 03-10-2014 08:28 PM

Ill also try to come out if this meet is held on a weekend, too busy and far for me on a weekday. Ill bring my stock setup
