Glad I saw this video before I ordered some more cobra towels, ordered 50+ bucks worth :D (10 towels) which I maybe would have gotten half otherwise, thanks for the info!

haha, me and my GF have old cars before a couple weeks ago she got a new Focus ST (new one for me in the fall), so had to step it up on the quality of detail products from target specials of car products :)

So I am the process of getting solid detail products, (2 bucket, etc), and this week was towels :D

And actually I found your two bucket wash video somehow and did it for the first time this weekend, worked great, also been watching the others as I can

Junkman2008 03-04-2014 02:22 PM

Well this video came in handy for you! Nice timing!

mfbmike 03-04-2014 02:38 PM

Awesome info. Thanks a lot Junkman.

Some of us are at work, and our internet connections there won't allow the playing of youtube videos.

So, he's asking for just a text summary of what the video presents in better detail.

Ding ding ding.

zinzan 03-04-2014 05:13 PM

He introduces us to a company called The Rag Company, and says the Eagle Blue Edgeless is the bomb, and says their other products look good, too, but he hasn't put them to the test yet, so he's only truly recommending the Eagle Blue Edgeless. Says the price is awesome, doesn't tell us what the price is, but if you look on their website, it's $5.95 for the 16x16.

That's the quick summary (I skimmed through it, didn't watch in it's entirety). Worth checking out the video when you get home, and the vendor he mentions looks pretty good, though I have no experience with them myself.

Man, have you ever nailed it.

It's like eating out at Waffle House all your life and thinking that it is the bomb because that's all you were ever exposed to. Then someone takes you to the Waldorf Astoria and shows you how the OTHER half lives. You'll never look at Waffle House the same way after that. I'm unplugging people from the paint Matrix daily. The question is, do you want to take the blue pill and wake up in the morning believing whatever you want to believe or do you want to take the red pill and find out just how deep the rabbit hole goes.

Buddy, it's deep. ;)

Those are not the same towel. Look at the picture with the bottle setting on them. They clearly have a sewn border. Thumbs down.

vroom4 03-04-2014 06:53 PM

No need to be super offended haha, was just stating a fact haha.

I havent used the ones you have suggested so I can not say which is better....I guess I could just go on the word of a guy on the internet..

vroom4 03-04-2014 06:54 PM

The griots are very, very nice if you havent used them.

m.wood0213 03-04-2014 07:06 PM

great vid. If I was still in the market for some new towels I definitely would've gone here. I love my Cobra's from autogeek.net though. Anyone find some really plush ones like Cobra Super Plush?

Hmm.

I think one of Junkman's vids on some forum somewhere (think it was a 350z forum I stumbled upon via a google search) might've actually been what introduced me to what car detailing actually was (as opposed to just washing your car with over the counter crap).

Sure, there are a bunch of random joe schmoe's out there but Junkman has a pretty sizable following in the car detail community for his helpful and informative videos.

Hah.

Nice to see another vid Junkman and seeing you on this forum.

Gonna go snag myself some towels myself. Actually curious to see where the uber towels I purchased from detailers domain about a year ago are manufactured - I have an unopened package that still have the tags on them.

I almost feel dirty now. lol.

The funny thing is, before I even checked the tag, I did the test where I draped it over my hand and pulled on it to see what you were talking about and I could feel it catching on my skin a bit.

Low and behold, made in china.

I guess the consolation in all of this - I loaded up on them when they were only 2 dollars each during a deal of the day.

Yeah, definitely investing in some better towels.

Is that crazy or what? :bonk:

Here's another thing about those cheap towels that will drive you crazy. If that thing hits the ground and there are leaves around, those leaves will embed themselves into the towel and you will have to pick for days to get all the tiny bits of leaf out. If you don't get them all, one of those tiny leaf bits will scratch the crap out of your paint. Talk about hideous, I wouldn't use those China made towels wipe my butt!

Damnit man, I've been using Autozone microfiber towels for waterless wipedowns. I've noticed the leaf issue a few times. I toss those in the trash. The rest I thoroughly wash on sanitary in the washer with some Purex. I haven't noticed swirls yet on the BRZ, but I've probably been lucky that nothing embedded in the towels yet.

Now dings and chips in the front bumper from freeway driving is a whole other issue I'm trying to sort out. Is there a good way to work those out or fill them in somehow? They don't go down to the primer. It's like the clear gets pitted from semis, pickups, and other big trucks throwing up tiny bits of gravel.

mfbmike 03-06-2014 02:16 AM

Picked up 5 eagle edgeless orange towels, 1 of their 26x36 drying waffle weaves, a 10 pack of their super plush blues for 30$, 2 of their glass and window microfibers and 2 of their metal polishing microfibers.

Can't wait to get em in.

Google Dr. Colorchip and the Langka system. Either product will work for you but ONLY if you follow the manufacturer's instructions TO THE LETTER.

You were shopping like a PIMP!

I don't know the quality of all those other towels that you bought so you will have to let us know how they are. The Rag Company does sell some cheap utility towels that are China made so hopefully, you didn't buy any of those.

I stuck to the detail master pro spec items - each listed they were korean microfiber. So no, no more china made crap. lol.

However, the eagle edgeless has a 500 Grams per Square Meter weight.

The super plush 10 pack has the same 500 grams weight.

The window and metal polish towels I got are 300 gram weight. Not as "heavy" but they won't be touching paint. With that being said, I got them as they look pretty cool (glass towels have one side corduroy for wiping clean and plush side for buffing) and wanted to check em out.

The waffle weave I got for drying is this one: http://www.theragcompany.com/Dry-Me-...09-2959-OW.htm

It mentions
360 Grams per Square Meter (Premium Grade Waffle-Weave).

I'll post my findings once I get them. I already have shipping information.
