Scion Service Schedule?

It is my understanding that the first Scion FR-S Service Schedule is due at 7500 miles, correct?

Why does Subaru BRZ have their first service due at 3750 miles? Looks like Subaru offers more complementary service maintenance than Scion.

I'm curious why the vast difference, as 7500 miles is DOUBLE Subaru's first service.

D88 03-04-2014 01:03 AM

Are you sure it's miles? In Canada my Scion service interval is every 7500 KM

strat61caster 03-04-2014 01:15 AM

Where do you see that the BRZ interval is 3750? Their manual says 7500 just like ours.

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8374

Edit: miles, for clarity

Drive 03-04-2014 01:15 AM

Miles is what mine says.

Turkish 03-04-2014 01:57 AM

My service book (BRZ) says 3000 mi for the first service, then every 7500 mi starting at 7500 mi.

humfrz 03-04-2014 02:09 AM

The FR-S is a tougher machine ... http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...mages/wink.gif

NOTE: The FR-S service manual calls for an engine oil and filter change at 3,750 miles, UNDER SEVERE conditions.

Can't speak for Subaru but I know that Scion Boost is 7500 miles per oil change- 7500, 15000, 22500.

No word from Toyota about doing it any earlier.

TM 03-04-2014 09:07 AM

My first subaru maintenance is at 7500 miles according to the warranty and maintenance booklet.

The dealer I bought the car from said it is 5,000 miles.:iono:

They do it whenever you want it. Your first 3 oil changes are free.

I only drive ~2000 miles a year and I got my oil changed back a few months ago when I had 1800 miles on my car. You obviously can't wait until the mileage is correct since for some drivers such as myself since it would take years to get the "proper" mileage.

That's why they'll usually say something like "once every 7500 miles or 7.5 months, whichever is sooner".

That's a standard Toyota thing, they probably didn't take into account the fact that it's an FR-S

fitcious 03-04-2014 12:57 PM

I followed the subaru schedule at 3700 since it is subaru who makes our engine...just saying.

but i plan to do it every 5000 miles after that...can't harm the engine by doing it a bit earlier.

Boostedpro 03-04-2014 01:26 PM

My dealer started me out at 7500 and then changed my schedule to 3750 after the tsb came out about the small intervals for the FRS.

whoster 03-04-2014 01:27 PM

I'm planning on taking it to an independent Lexus/Toyota guy nearby at 5,000 miles.

He does Lexus-level work for about 40-50% less than dealer prices...

That's cause toyota/scion/lexus' interval is every 5k. The dealers get used to just saying that to everyone but the fr-s is really every 7.5

whoops. someone already said this. Sorry! :iono:

Scion manual page 34 http://a230.g.akamai.net/7/230/83646...ranty_2013.pdf
Under normal condition every 7.5k miles or 7.5 months

I took mine in at 7.5 months (4500 miles) to service it. Dumshits put a sticker that said next service 15000 miles. I'll be taking it back at 7.5 months again or 12000 miles which ever comes first.

Subaru has the exact same service schedule as the Scion. See here: http://drive.subaru.com/fall13_modes...=4#recommended

Any thoughts on the old adage that a new car following its break-in should have at least an oil change done earlier than usual?

It's a question of whether or not you follow the OEM instructions or an 'old adage'. There's a thousand ways to argue it 'oh it's breaking in you want to get rid of the metal shavings that show up in the first hundred miles' 'oh the first oil fill has extra molybdenum to help break-in' 'the engine is broken in from the factory' 'it isn't broken in from the factory, it's in the manual that you need to break it in for 1,000 miles' and every combination.

I haven't seen any evidence that the manual is not trustworthy, you know, written by the company that has a vested interest in helping you own a reliable high performing car employing thousands of engineers to make sure this happens.

whoster 03-04-2014 05:09 PM

I'm more of an OEM instructions + my convenience kind of guy as opposed to an "old adage" guy...

Just that I've been on forums for so damn long and you read so damn much...

Apex-Wolf 03-05-2014 02:20 AM

I took my scion in at 5000 miles.
You can always ask to go in sooner my dealership had no problem with it.

I suggest you just quit listening to those old coots on the forum ..... :slap:

If you don't, they will have you trying to set the timing, gap the points and adjust the carburetor...... http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...mages/sigh.gif

My toyota dealer said the interval was 10k miles... i had to show them the manual to shove in their face how wrong they were...

 ...... nor can we check the points with a dwell meter nor check timing with a timing light or change the timing by rotating the distributor ....... :D

Next you're going to tell me that we have to use one of them fancy computer lap things in order to tune our cars, right?

Sure,, tell me another one... :bonk::bonk:

I'm ah feared so.......:(

I've looked all over the engine compartment and I can't find how to get the valve covers off to adjust the valves or find the distributor to check the points or the carburetor to adjust the idle ..... hell, I can't even find the coil ....

I'm not sure HOW that sucker ever "runs" ...... :bonk:

Yep, that's one reason I don't mess with modern day engine tuning ...... one wrong keystroke and ...... BAM ...... no more working engine .....

So at what miles would you guys recommend that I take my 3 free services at?

I had my car for 2 months and I'm already at 3400 miles. I haven't done a single maintenance, services, oil changes etc yet.

I attached a pic of the Scion Service Boost which shows the first service is due at 7500 miles, but like a lot of you said that's probably waiting too long for the first oil change.

I'd suggest you just go with the program.

Why .. ?? Because it's easy to remember ...... :D

In addition, sometimes I think we forget we are working with full synthetic oil here....:)

Gotcha. I'm still confused as to why Subaru BRZ's first service is done at 3000 miles though.

Well, now, @Drive ..... the way I read the US BRZ schedule 1, is that there isn't a letter in the box for a crankcase oil or filter change till 7,500 miles or 7.5 months.
