Which gear is your favorite?
Strictly for the 6MT guys, what is your favorite gear and why?
Mine is 4th; love that feeling of accelerating from 35mph to 90mph on an on-ramp and dropping right into 6th and into traffic. |
4th...love the feeling of going WOT from 3rd to 4th. It's when the car feels somewhat fast for me.
BBC Top Gear.
Favorite all the gears.

For 'passing' it would be 3rd on back roads, 4th highway. They are easy to downshift even for a manual 'noob' like myself and after 4k rpm the car just sings. I try keep it under 3K for economy but it feels good to let her have a nice long drink.
I like 2nd. Used the most during autocross, carry good oversteer in 2nd as well. Downshifts into 2nd are much easier than first and you get nearly as much rear end action.
I enjoy 6th the most, I have this weird fascination with flooring it in to high of a gear. Since I can get it in 6th at 35MPH, I am basically flooring it everywhere haha, its great.
Usually my favorite gear is one lower than where I currently am
Third gear (50-80 MPH), is my favorite twisty road gear ......http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...s/driving2.gif

First gear. I love the movement of the arm moving it towards the left and forward.
I love doing it when I wait for pedestrians and they see me doing it. Not that I'm trying to hurry them up, but they seem to walk a tad faster than when I'm in my other auto sedan. |
third gear..
2nd gear is perfect for those tight hairpins that beg you to apply just a little bit too much throttle so you get that fun little tail wag coming out of the turn.
mine is in between gears. i just love shifting from 3rd to 4th because it just feels good. its the most basic motion and i dont have to keep the stick pushed to the left or right. just clutch, yank, release clutch
3rd gear. Why? I can feel my car pull the whole gear til it red lines. Gotta love TRD intake and TRD exhaust.
I put 3rd but 6th is kinda cool too for me, 6th and 5th both shoot lots of fireballs.
3rd because that's the only gear where this car actually feels like it has some pull and it's the best gear for the twisties by my house. 5th is a close 2nd place because well that's what gear I am in 90% of the time cruising around town.
2nd for sure. Taking 1st to 5K and then 2nd to 5K always puts a smile on my face when going about town on some of the bigger roads.
The only thing I don't like about 2nd is cold shifts. |
I'd vote for reverse, but it's not an option!
I like 4th but fifth keeps me in line.
3rd, already past the torque dip if she's revved up good and the perfect gear for freeway entrance ramps, only gear I feel pulls really hard the entire time.

2nd. It's the auto-x, tail wagging, snow/rain, still enough gear for a standing start, gear.
Whichever puts me at >5k rpm.
3rd for normal driving, 2nd for auto x and winter play time.
when i downshift into 2nd because my exhaust goes BWAAAAA and i feel like racecar
Hard to say... In the twisting I actually prefer 4th.
In daily use, I love the vanity downshift into 2nd as I heel toe through the gears to a stop lmao. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

On The Road
I was in Utah and Nevada two weeks ago and on IS 15, north of Las Vegas, the speed limit is 75mph. Then, in Utah, it gets even better...80mph! I agree with earlier poster...4th into 6th!

3 -> 2 heel toe downshift :burnrubber:
4th is where the fun is. Maybe I'll feel differently if I ever change my final drive.... :-)
5th gear just sounds absolutely amazing, from inside the car.
Or is that just me? o.o |
Got to say 3rd-4th just love the way the gear pulls.
