1:10 Mini Me...Wait another one?!?!

1 Attachment(s)
Guess who's back! :D Since the second body isn't exactly ruined (unlike the last one where I had to chop the trunk off to get the spoiler off), I'll still have a pretty body to bash. I have new wheels and rubber on the way. The rears will be here on Tuesday. The fronts are coming from Japan on the slow boat. The top peeve I had with the previous models is the paint. The first body was just the wrong color and flaked off (wrong paint type). The second body is missing that purple hue that the real Asphalts/DGM's have.

You can find all of the pictures from the older models in the thread link below.

http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps8200afe7.png

The one main goal is to achieve a true replica model of the real thing. That means closer matched paint, a better light setup, 3D parts instead of stickers, and other little details that would be over looked.

I have not ordered the body yet. I get my paint with it and that is something I would like some opinions on. I mentioned above that the last model was missing the blue/purple hue that our dark greys have. You can see the paint process in this post. I think starting off with the smoke again is the right way, but it's everything after that I wouldn't mind some ideas on. Option 1 is to spray a light layer of translucent purple, similar to the smoke, before spraying the gunmetal. Option 2 is to spray a light layer of gunmetal, followed by a light layer of metallic purple (non translucent), followed by more gunmetal. Option 3 is to hold the metallic purple and gunmetal side by side. :iono: Should I even use purple? What about blue?

PS: Looking back at the other thread, I think I was a bit rude, harsh, or whatever else in some posts. It's not something I do on purpose but I apologize in advance if that pops up again.

New wheels son! I have a set of four, but I do not want the aggressive offset in the fronts. The wait for the slow boat from Japan and from China (tires) continues.

So apparently everywhere is out of stock...so I ended up getting refunded for the body and had to order from China...

Damn those are so stupidly concave lol

Pics :D

I do not think I will do the reverse lights.

I got a test piece done for the front light housing. It came out aight so I'll do the others soon. I will just paint the inside with a little more resin to seal it completely. Then the obvious interior chrome and exterior flat black paint.

I wish the front wheels where flatter. The fronts look like my real rears, and the rears look mad offset yo. I had to throw in a fresh slammed picture too.

I still have to clean up the front grill area. Normally that area is left uncut, but I wanted the texture of the real thing. I will just leave a lip around the edge to glue my 1:10 space invaders grill too. the upper 4" (0.4" or 10mm) even has the backing. Sadly, I can't do anything about the front plate mount, so I'll just work around it.

I made the exact license plate this time too. I'll have "BITE ME" in the front, which is what I would have my real plate be if I was FI. :sigh:

3D Toyota and piston badges for the win!

The exhaust is made of three pieces: two tips and well, the rest. I hope it fits. Most RC "exhausts" are only tips attached to the body. I wanted the piping, slash cut rolled tips, and the muffler though. Mine will also mount to the chassis instead of the body.

The wipers were modeled to scale: 20", 22", and modeled wiper arms.

The 2" Perrin shorty antenna is there too.

I think that's everything to date. I made a bunch of duplicates just so I can choose which part I like most or as a safety since these are really small.

mkivalex 04-04-2014 10:26 AM

Are you making the 3d parts yourself? you have a 3D printer? Awesome work man!

I wish I had my own printer. A quick google search will give you the answer. A magician never gives away his secrets that everyone knows about.

Thanks

I have some more stuff. I will ditch the molded reverse light housing for this. I also made the 3rd brake light housing. I also want to do some interior, but not sure how and how far to go.

You're going to need to hook a brother up.

It's an old pic of mine. I've since bastardized it and have been debating throwing a rocket bunny kit on it.

Planning on ordering another one today though. Probably going to do the same thing you did with the DIY lightbuckets.

As a kicker, mine is RWD. :burnrubber:

boredom.is.me 04-07-2014 12:44 AM

I wish I could do RWD...well I know what I'm trying tonight. Are you on a TT-01 too?

Crazy Drew 04-07-2014 01:00 AM

Are y'all using the HPI bodies? I'm working on one right now.

*edit*
NVM, the 1 piece body with rear bumper looks like the Tamiya body?

boredom.is.me 04-07-2014 01:03 AM

Mine and Mandy's are both Tamiya bodies. There really is no substitute when it comes to scale looks.

I'm running an Eagle Racing R31-16FM. Here it is without the shell at my local drift track:

I agree. The only other GT86 body I would consider getting is the HKS Performer GT86, but it's a bit too wide for me. I'm going down to 0mm offset wheels, so I need the narrowest body I can get.

Michael 04-07-2014 08:21 PM

Love it! I really want to get me one of these and mod it to what my FR-S will be.

boredom.is.me 04-07-2014 10:26 PM

@Michael Do it!

I'm not a fan of the premade RB body, but the add on pieces look great.

Mandy 04-08-2014 09:09 PM

I might wind up selling my RB set. Was $100 for the whole thing (insane, I know). I cut it up, and haven't had the desire to paint it and put it on yet. I'd need to run too much offset for my tastes. Maybe as a shelf queen I would.

boredom.is.me 04-09-2014 12:00 AM

Did you get the RB body or the add ons? I still haven't ordered the paint for mine. It gets more expensive with every color. :sigh: I need Gunmetal, Smoke, Translucent Purple, and I am contemplating flat black polycarbonate paint instead of regular flat. I paint both interior and exterior.

I also have to figure out what I want to do for my spoiler. I don't feel like building a small vacuum former. It's the sheet retention frames that are annoying.

The finer parts where never made but I will have them by the end of this month.

The paint for the new body is on the way. I decided to go with a blue tint instead of purple.

The tint is in the garage.

The dash isn't finished of course.

The exhaust is missing it's tips.

I have to clean up the red on the tail lights a little. In the picture, it is just lit with a regular LED, but it will have an SMD behind it. The same goes for the side markers.

Update?
And what would it take to get those CAD models of the bits?

boredom.is.me 07-24-2014 04:16 PM

Sorry for the lack of update. I'm away for the summer so of course I won't be working on this till I get back late August. I already have everything in place though for when I get back.

What would it take? I went through a bit to get them designed and made properly. Plus there is still room for improvement which would made installation of the badges a hell of a lot easier. I would be willing to sell packs, but I'm not giving the drawings away.

Sell packs as in packs of the parts so people could make mini me's with parts you made?

boredom.is.me 07-24-2014 07:23 PM

Pretty much all the scale features.

Front grill
Toyota T badges
Piston badges
Antenna (I would be able to make any length)
License plates and mounting brackets
Reverse and 4th brake light bucket
3rd brake lift bucket
Wiper blades

Maybe even the rear view mirror if desired.
Maybe even the TRD style spoiler, but that would be made from a different process.

boredom.is.me 09-20-2014 01:22 PM

This needs to get out of the garage!!! I have the light controller on order which will take about two weeks. I should have this thing rolling by then. I sadly can't find my badges, but I needed to get some other stuff, so I'll update the parts for easier and more secure installation. I also have to redo my headlights housing since the 1:1 is now blacked out (mostly).

boredom.is.me 09-25-2014 01:40 AM

I have the updated badges and 3rd brake light on the way.

How wide is it? The Tamiya is 180mm...If I could find a 200mm wide body I'd love to put on on my WGT car :) I know CRC makes a WGT GT86 body but it really doesn't look much like one.

boredom.is.me 09-30-2014 11:42 AM

I ordered a new set of drift wheels. I really like the wide 6 spokes I had before, but I've already broken two sets.

Aside from that, just waiting to stuff to arrive.

I got the new wheels and tires yesterday. These were much more expensive so I hope they are stronger than the 6 spokes.

In other news, the light module came in. I just have to find my LED bag do I can add the running lights. I soldered the side marker lights. They just need to be cut from the PCB, wired, and attached to the car.

The revised third brake light components as well as the revised badges are still in the mail.
