BRZ Forum Has One, Why not us, What are you trading in?

Just thought that since the BRZ subforum had one we should have one too. I used the search function and didn't see any threads like this in the FR-S forum so forgive me if there was one but it was hiding (in which case mods feel free to lock/delete this). Anyways. What is everyone (if they are) trading in for their FR-S? I'll start, I'm trading in my 2011 Mustang v6 Premium. I'm a little worried I might miss the way it pulls (I've got a CAI, reworked exhaust, and custom tune) and all the red-light shootouts with other muscle cars, but I've been wanting a nice drivers car for a while as the stang isn't really good for anything but straight lines. The stang definitely has more power, since it's had work done, but I'm sure with a little work the FR-S will be able to get up and go enough to make it even more fun when I'm not on the curvy back roads around where I live. So how about y'all?

denkigrve 05-09-2012 09:17 PM

Nothing. I was gonna trade in my WRX but instead decided that I'd use that as my toy, and keep it for moments I feel like my life needs more boost.

LostTHEbeat 05-09-2012 09:23 PM

Nothing. Was totally prepped to trade in a 04 Scion xB, but the dealer offered $3500 for it. Sold it for $7.2k private party sale.

I'll be trading in my 2012 lexus ct200h (fancy prius), at times i feel like i could run faster than the ct just very slow and no fun. Before i had the ct i had 2005 g35c with Volk Gt30's, Stoptech bbk and Uprev tune i really do miss that car. I need a therapy car and the frs will be it.

eifer 05-09-2012 09:26 PM

Trading in my Acura TSX (2004)

I was worried I was the only one trading in a relatively new vehicle.

So why go from the Mustang to the FRS? Just curious since it'll be a noticeable power drop.

Just want something smaller and better handling. The mustang is really loose in the back end and the slightest press of the gas in the rain will result in fishtailing, and not in a good way. And I'm not exaggerating when I say the tiniest press of the gas, I'll lose the rear end just accelerating normally in a straight line if it has been raining. Another factor is that the mustang was already powerful stock, add what I did to it and you have a car that's pretty much quicker than anything on the road , except for 370z's and the v8 pony cars. That's wonderful but it gets old never having a challenge. The stang was already fast, I wanna try my hand and truly upgrading a car and getting all I can get out of it rather than having that out of the box. I also love the styling of the FR-S, I think it's absolutely gorgeous. Looking at it then back to my mustang makes my car seem so boring and drab. Plus my stang is an auto, which takes all the fun out of it anyways. So I wanna get the FR-S in a manual and do things proper.

Got a good offer on my mazda3 last month and sold it, car-less till june -_-

mines13 05-09-2012 10:20 PM

No trade.

roddy 05-09-2012 10:25 PM

This car will be my new daily driver. I'm trading in my '06 Accord SE. I also have a V6 Mustang an know what you mean about the handling. It handles better than any previous Mustang, but it is a BIG car, and it feels like it. Mine is an '07 4.0/Manual (with an Eaton MP-90 supercharger on top). It's fun showing the tail lights to V8 "muscle" cars.

I'm thinking I'll still be able to do this though as many people who go out and buy big muscle cars or even nice tuners like the 3.8L GC don't know how to drive nor shift properly and therefore are easy targets. I've beaten plenty of cars in my stang that I should have never been able to just because people don't know how to use the machine they're in.

TRD-X 05-09-2012 10:46 PM

I'm not trading in anything paying cash for my hot chick. :D

2002 Jetta. Gonna try and take 2 kids to daycare in the FR-S (short trip) then bomb to and from work!

Oilers99 05-10-2012 01:50 AM

Sold a 2000 Prelude on kijiji, loved that car. Silver, no spoiler. Great shape, handled awesome, good on gas.. But I've been waiting patiently for a small, lightweight hardtop with the handling of a miata.

Not to bash the GC are really nice for sure, but to me felt a bit bulky or vague? Any particular reason you're trading so quick?

WhippleDip 05-10-2012 02:35 AM

Trading in my 01' BMW 330Ci next week for an FR-S, dealers said they will have them in stock next week, getting very excited to get a car I don't have to worry about breaking constantly!!

track_warrior 05-10-2012 02:43 AM

My soul!! Not the KIA....

Exhaust 05-10-2012 02:55 AM

More than likely not going to trade anything. If i want to truly have fun with the car by modding it and tracking it, i cant really see it being sensible to have it as a DD. Therefore i will probably by it out of cash and keep my precious le 09 corolla which has been good to me thus far and keep the FRS to show off on the side.

MONTEMEX3 05-10-2012 02:59 AM

Trading in my 1994 Toyota Camry LE for FR-S ASPHALT

Rabble 05-10-2012 09:31 AM

I might be trading in the mustang I bought last month for an FR-S, but only if I can get more on the trade in than I spent for it (a real possibility as I got an amazing deal).

It would be interesting to make money on owning a car for two months.

FoxtrotRomeo-Sierra 05-10-2012 09:42 AM

I'll be trading in/selling privately my 2008 Civic SI. Fun car, and it's the first car I've owned manual, but I'm ready to move over and try out a RWD car. I don't think I'll be disappointed.

rbrtndrws 05-10-2012 10:08 AM

Trading my 2011 STi sedan for (hopefully) a Firestorm FR-S. The STi is fun but I feel like the car is doing all of the work. :D

The dealer says the FR-S I've put a deposit on is being shipped to them with the premium audio unit installed (which I don't want). Can ask them to remove the stereo I wonder?

Trading in my GF's scion tC =D

QC-FRS 05-10-2012 01:32 PM

Trading my good old faithfull vibe gt 03 (matrix xrs). Wondering if the motor will be about the same feel. Since the gt redline at 8100rpm and come alive around 4500.. Hoping for a bit more since the frs will be lighter and if not mistaken there is no vvt-i like in the frs/brz so probably more lineare power.

Come end of may.... Come :)

Liquidsnake 05-10-2012 01:37 PM

Goodbye 370z,

We had a lot of fun together. You were one of my favorites I have ever driven. Ill never forget hitting 130 on a surface street racing a Lancer. Oh and that time we embarassed a 640 BMW. I remember the look on the guys face like WTFOMGBBQSAUCE.:confused0068:

Alas our time has come to an end. After 3 years I have grown tired, and I have to say goodbye.

370z for an FR-S. :party0030:

tripjammer 05-10-2012 05:42 PM

People still rollin in 01 330ci with no problems? WOW!

Me I got a 2004 350Z roadster 6 speed manual, trading it on a FR-S or a BRZ limited...Have not decided which yet. I need to see these cars in person...

MTeator 05-10-2012 05:44 PM

Don't know if it counts as trade in, but I switched directions and sold my 99 Camry, 93 MR2, 08 Tundra, and car trailer and will end up with just an FR-S.

Symbiont 05-10-2012 09:01 PM

Nothing, I'm paying cash.

I am used to Miatas and an RX-8, and yes the GC is much bigger and slower responding than those. It can be tuned up (stiffer suspension, ecu re-flashed, & other mods) to get to a respectable level but then I'm modding a new car, which I don't feel like doing anymore.

Worst thing about the Genesis is the drive-by-wire system which delays everything you do, and the stability control that is over-intrusive.

As a GT or cruiser, it is a beautiful car, rides well and decent on fuel.
But it's no FR-S....

I have 142,000 miles on mine.

I have replaced/fixed countless items, it an awesome, awesome car but the maintenance/upkeep is absolutely insane.

Watch out for:

Front Control arm/bushing/balljoint failure
Blower motor fan controller
power steering high pressure lines
belt tensioners/pullys/waterpump
valve cover gasket
tail light wiring melts/shorts out and causes the headlights to flicker (really.)

The biggest thing to look out for is the cooling system, just go ahead and replace the following every 60K miles:
All coolant hoses
Coolant expansion tank (im on my 4th)
thermostat/coolant temp sensors

Honestly I have learned that if you can afford a used BMW, you can afford a new BMW. Make sure not to ever neglect the factory maintenance schedule or you will be in for a world of pain.

My last car was a Chevy Prizm (toyota corolla) and I bought it with 100K, sold it with 300K and honestly never replaced a goddamn thing except for brakes, tires, clutch, and fluid changes. I am so excited to get another Japanese car.
