What headers to buy?

Hey what's up guys! Glad to be part of the ft86 forum. Great information all around. I just picked up a raven frs about 2 months ago. I just broke 700 miles in. I am thinking about getting headers? I was looking into Borla UEL Header but i am looking for something in the low 400s. Something inexpensive but reliable. Would you guys even recommended headers at 700 miles? and if so which ones? Thanks again! FRS <3
And also i know I am a noob for asking, but any recommendations on aftermarket parts i should start adding to my baby? Never hurts to ask

For budget Headers with a good bang for your buck get open flash headers. Nice car btw :)

Squido3J 03-01-2014 03:27 AM

I heard good and bad things about those. a little bit over my budget too :(
Thank you!!!

OpenFlash headers are $625 since I'm assuming you haven't purchased an OpenFlash Tablet for tuning yet. Those are the lowest priced quality headers I've seen for this car, and as of now I wouldn't bother with anything cheaper.

Borla header. Its not very expensive and sounds great based on youtube videos. :)

Anything cheaper is going to be eBay crap...

Oh boy. You should equip yourself with a flame suit.

True. I just saw a clip on it on youtube. They sound beast. Thank for the recommendation! I'll just save up a little more to get them :]

Im in love. C'mon taxes. Im picking this baby up. I'll keep you guys updated with some youtube videos once it's installed.

JDL is probably the highest quality in terms of welds and everything. OFH + OFT is the best bang for your buck snatch in terms of a quality header. Also, don't exclude other companies like Revworks, HKS, and etc. Just a tip, don't add headers yet if you're still under 1k miles- enjoy your brand new car for a bit. In the end, it's your money, your car.

imo get exhaust first.

I'd do headers before exhaust personally. Headers unlock more performance than any other single part of the exhaust and they respond better to performance tuning.

Headers make the car come alive.

raven1231 03-01-2014 07:22 AM

This. Way more than en exhaust

Squido3J 03-01-2014 07:25 AM

Any more parts you guys recommended to add? Just for some extra power? And don't say sensu beans Lol

Open flash headers, open flash tablet, drop in filter, possibly exhaust is you want the sound and looks , phantom supercharger unless you are wanting to stay purely naturally aspirated. That should get you :burnrubber:

Squido3J 03-01-2014 07:55 AM

Most likely I'll pick up the Phantom supercharger :]

No sir actually I am recovering from a small bowel resection at the moment in the hospital. I got admitted soon after I received it. However plenty of other members do and ill have some posted within the week once I'm home again. I'm hoping for Wednesday.

DJCarbine 03-01-2014 11:36 AM

Just installed a Revworks header to replace my borla.

Borla was just fine when removing, no rust/etc. and the revworks went right in like a glove.

Can't complain with either one. Just wanted a change.

Revworks for the visual quality, but now that I've had both on the car there is really no apparent difference in sound/power, although my butt dyno is not very accurate :)

Don't get me wrong, the revworks is a beautiful piece but the borla is not the piece of garbage many make it out to be.
The availability and the warranty are two huge factors in why I got one initially. I happened to get lucky with my revworks header, as ft86speedfactory was getting a shipment in 2 days after I made my purchase and I ended up getting dibs on one of the last of the shipment that were not already spoken for

HKS headers helped someone on here make a 13"sec car. They were developing the header before the car was even released. What's an extra $500 in the scheme of things?

tennisfreak 03-03-2014 04:07 PM

I'd be willing to give the FT86SpeedFactory catted headers a try. Not a bad price, good gains, has a high flow cat on it.

I was all excited about Nameless but that quickly dissipated in the past month.

why FT86club, you should research them on this forum.

Remember Nameless is quality you get what you pay for.

I expect another year or two before you can buy a top notch header for under $600.

Maybe wait like I'm doing?

DANG!!! I typed the wrong name I meant FT86SpeedFactory.

FT86Club should be avoided at all costs.'

I agree with waiting, no rush and prices will come down as current demand is met and orders start to trail off.

SirBrass 03-04-2014 12:24 PM

For under $400, you're not going to find headers that are worth spending money on. At least not at this time.

You're best off saving $$ up for something quality. Shiv's OFH is probably about as "low budget" as I'd advise. They're decent and seem reliably built. Borla's have been hit or miss, but Borla's warranty means you aren't risking your money if you get a lemon.

Right now, with such a brand new car, I'd advise you to keep driving it stock till you're past 1k miles. If you absolutely MUST change something out, do something that's cheap, easy, and absolutely foolproof, like swapping out your interior and license plate incandescent bulbs with LEDs, as well as getting different side markers and LED sidemarker bulbs. Easy, easy mod that definitely improves the look and isn't very spendy at all.

Maybe do a transmission fluid swap in a few k miles. And consider new tires or different wheels, all the while saving up for quality exhaust mods, not just what you can get with what you have now.

In short: save up now and pay once later instead of cheaping out now and paying AGAIN when you get exactly what you paid for now.

regal 03-05-2014 10:05 AM

I see you are in Texas, second thought on the waiting. Its been in the single digits here for months, if I was still in texas I'd probably have an HKS installed.

But the other thing you have to think about is tuning. A header won't do a whole lot for Ya without a good tune. And this being a new platform good tunes are hard to come by. Another reason to wait.

Just giving you pro's and cons.
