Exhaust tips

Besides the JDM GT86 exhaust tips, what other options are out there?

ramiram1984 02-28-2014 06:45 PM

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EjCbsaHSPk"]Acura Integra Duck call exhaust - YouTube[/ame] get one of these.

suaveflooder 02-28-2014 06:49 PM

I have the Perrin tips. They are pretty expensive but honestly the best looking "tip only" option IMHO

For a few hundred dollars more...you can get a full exhaust.... pretty expensive tips.

I agree a bit on the expensive side but they do look the best out of all the exhaust tips for the stock exhaust.

Here are the DC tips. They looked very nice and I used them until I got my cat-back.

Picked them up at Advanced Auto but I'm not sure if they're still selling them.

I agree, but, if one has no intention of changing the exhaust, they look like one did .... ;)

THIS! We have a local guy here who is too loud to run autox. He's recently swapped back to the stock muffler and still has the rest of his exhaust. He's going to run the perrin tips for this exact reason. Looks like he still has an exhaust

cycleboy 02-28-2014 08:53 PM

I got the Perrin and they look a lot better than stock. I just wish I could shove them on a little further as they stick out a bit much for my liking.

I got them because I'd like to go to Borla catback + diffuser, but that's the difference between under $200 for tips or $1000 for what I really want. I'll keep these until I can do the full thing, then sell the tips. Likely they will look just about new at that point too. They are well made.

jblmr2 02-28-2014 09:14 PM

^ +1 couldn't agree more. I didn't want loud as our cars aren't quiet anyway. But didn't want cheesy either which is what stock is.

hmmmm.......you must like them tucked way back. When I had them on my stock muffler, they could have gone back another 1/2" ... :)

When I get my header I'm pretty sure my track pipe will be unbearable. I'll probably have to revert to stock to get it quiet enough. If the sound is acceptable at that point I will be wanting some tips.

Wonder how pilot pm583 will look. Think the straight cut could look good if set to the right depth. Hope so.

How's the rust?

kodyo 03-01-2014 10:21 AM

I did a quick DIY a while back to make my own tips using a set of weld on magnaflows that I turned into clamp-ons. Was about $90 all said and done.

Link doesn't lead to the DIY.

Scroll down. It was an addition to an old DIY. The original OP deleted it for some reason, but my write up is a few posts down.

I just added an edit so that you get the basic content of the original post.

White64Goat 03-01-2014 11:27 AM

No problem with rust during the period of time I had them on. They're stainless.

are the screws stainless too?

also, what is the taper like from the outside edge to the inside tube wall? Is it a straight line or curve.

They stick out about an inch to inch and a half. I'd like them a bit closer to even w/ the rear fascia. 1/2 to 1 inch in from where they are would be great.

My favorite tips, being a cyclist, is the bike inner tube:

It's a pain, but you can get them to go further in. Mine sat out too far at first as well. Use both hands and twist. They all still sit out further than the perrin catback, but they won't poke out like they probably are now.

That's probably a half inch less stick out than mine. I gave them a good shove, but perhaps when this rain stops I'll try a little harder.

Just remember to twist. Just pushing didn't help. When I started twisting, I was golden. But this is as far as they would go

I did that, and I put a small amount of bike grease on them to help them go on. They are sort of butted up against the small detent that is there on the bottom of the exhaust exit pipe. I may still see if they'll go a little more. They've been on for a bit over a month I think.
