Rain!

Finally!

It's already started a little bit here in mid-805 about 6am.

Be safe out there everyone, we know how bad Ca. drivers can be when the roads get wet and greasy!

As a Firefighter in SoCal, I noticed that when anyone so much as rolls down their window and spits - cars act like mercury on teflon.

Carlitoz3 02-26-2014 01:58 PM

Be safe people!

Holy crap it rained its ass off last night! Super windy too. Nothing damaged at my house though. I suspect there are gonna be some downed trees. It was so loud out that there wasn't much sleep possible.

Kakawate 02-28-2014 01:08 PM

It's been raining in the desert all night fucking love it!

Avo1789 02-28-2014 01:38 PM

It's about that time to practice drifting in an empty lot!

cycleboy 02-28-2014 06:49 PM

I very quickly found the traction limits on cold wet tires pulling out of my street these last few days (with brand new A/S tires).

Had to remind myself to go easy at first. . .

tmcmullins 02-28-2014 06:53 PM

I hope we get hit by a few more storms. We definitely need the rain and hopefully some good snow fall in the mountains.

Most california drivers are already bad, the rain just helps them show it.

I've seen pics from Big Bear and Mammoth and both are dumping.

There's some damage locally, The Beachside at Goleta beach was damaged and 2 employees hurt due to a large wave. A boat was smashed on Goleta pier too. Unconfirmed report that part of Gaviota pier was torn away.

At home I've been saving up the rain in various large containers so we can use it on the garden later. I have about 185 gallons and every container I have is full or overflowing. I'm getting ~40-50 gallons or so coming off the roof in under an hour!

Ganthrithor 03-02-2014 01:54 AM

Haha, people at this restaurant on the SB pier got wrecked:

Watched an accident happen right in front of me on the freeway yesterday morning. Someone attempted to correct a hydroplane by slamming on their brakes...they ran straight into the cement barrier, then bounced clear across to the other side of the road in front of me. I was already going slow (~50), but I threw on my hazards and slowed down even more when I saw this start to happen (5-ish car lengths in front of me, one lane over). The lovely drivers behind me continued going 80 or a million mph, whatever it was... *shakes her head* They're lucky they didn't hit that guy as he was careening between lanes.

I debated stopping to see if he needed help, but other than his car being pretty smashed up, I don't think the accident was too bad....unless someone behind me hit him after I got by him :/

Having just moved to SoCal from WV (where it rains and snows all the freaking time), I have to say that I find it absolutely hilarious to watch other SoCalers drive in the rain. Understandable since it rains maybe 20 days a year for you all, but still funny. The rain is definitely making it difficult for me to learn the roads though, since I have to pay more attention to my actual driving and everyone else around me instead of paying attention to where I am at and how I got there. haha

jsbrz 03-02-2014 02:45 PM

if your car is low and goes through a pretty deep puddle, would it mess up the car?

Depends. How low, how deep of a puddle, and how fast do you hit it?

frsgal 03-02-2014 04:48 PM

@jonbonazza it doesn't help that Cali roads aren't sloped so the water doesn't run off :[ I'm from Minnesota originally (been here 2.5 years now, woooo sunshine!)...so I've got a little basis for comparison, too :]

I'm a SoCal native and while I don't have much experience elsewhere, I have driven in snow, ice, and so on - a bit anyway.

I find it comical how bad we are when it gets mildly wet out. You can literally open up the CHP website when the rain starts and watch the accidents happen. I think people just keep jamming along at 75-80, on the cell phone, not paying attention, and suddenly they are spinning and hitting things.

SoCal has to have some of the worst distracted drivers around. I mean my wife and a friend of mine have both seen people on 101 PLAYING GUITAR WHILE DRIVING! WTF? :eyebulge:

Seriously, I don't know. I thought my wife was nuts when she said it, but she knew what she saw. 6 months or a year later my friend saw it too.

I've seen people reading hardback books. . .
