Trd quickshifter=amazing!

Just installed today. No rattles or noise and a massively improved feel. Throws are shorter then my friends 997 gt3. It's that good.... Could not recommend it more!!

husker741 02-22-2014 09:24 PM

I wonder how this would be with the MTEC springs.

sanmarcosfrs 02-22-2014 09:26 PM

I was actually gone do the springs next... But it's so firm now, not sure if I should?? I think I'm gonna wait and see how the shifter loosens up over the next few weeks then decide

Definitely let us know if you do it. I wanna install them but having a TRD piece in the transmission is much more comforting for warranty purposes.

Carlitoz3 02-22-2014 09:35 PM

Shifter is still the same height correct?

Zach3794 02-22-2014 10:05 PM

Is this the TRD USA piece or the TRD Japan shifter?

wootwoot 02-22-2014 10:10 PM

Work with kartboy?

sanmarcosfrs 02-23-2014 01:35 AM

It's the trd USA part. I got it for 150 shipped of eBay. Same height etc... Just drastically reduced throws. It's all installed from underneath the car, nothing topside is changed. Not sure if it works with kart boy

troek 02-23-2014 03:16 AM

weird, the trd japan short shifter replaces the whole assembly.

I thought about the japan one but it's far more money plus the usual crazy amount of time it takes to get parts from japan... I'm sure it's good, but not sure how much better it could be than the USA kit..Attachment 68028. For reference, this pic is in second gear....the throws are that short.

It's only a couple of pieces but I had to take my car in for its 7500 mile check up anyways... It looks very doable but I had the dealer throw it on. It ran me 190 for the install. It was the first one they have done so I'm sure the price can vary a bit...

Zach3794 02-23-2014 02:10 PM

Would you be interested in letting me feel it out to help influence my purchase? I'm just a hop and a skip over the 78 ;)

I've heard the opposite feedback about the TRD jp one. It's $600 or so, and the feedback from someone local that has it, said its barely any different. I was all keen on it, till he told me not to bother.

The USA one is bad ass.. Best 150 you can spend

diss7 02-23-2014 05:39 PM

The best $150 you can spend is on track fees.

Zach3794 02-23-2014 05:40 PM

Two 4's is equivilent to an 8.

husker741 02-23-2014 10:35 PM

OP, is there any rattle or high pitched sounds at high speed like the people with Kartboy's have been hearing/feeling? So far, any negatives?

Edit: just re-read your original post and you said no rattles.

Know I just want to know how this will feel with the MTEC springs. I have a friend with the Kartboy short shifter and when he put the springs on, he hated how it felt. You should try them out and have someone buy them off you if they don't work well with this part.

leicaboss 02-23-2014 11:15 PM

The MTEC springs sound good, but I'm afraid the installation looks like a PITA?

Vino 02-23-2014 11:42 PM

Op do u have the part nos for it
Thanks

Checked the Kartboy DIY thread? That should prove helpful as far as general guidelines if not nearly exactly the same.

It's a totally different assembly.

tjohnson104 02-26-2014 08:22 PM

Yes I just checked that one actually. this is done all under the car. The problem is the driveshaft is in the way. And the rear end is way over tightened so I can totally remove to make it easier. The part I am stuck at is getting the smaller drive shaft linkage through the black nylon tube in the new supplied adapter.

Don't have anything but this.

OrbitalEllipses 02-26-2014 08:26 PM

How do you dramatically change throws without changing the lever itself - which is accomplished more easily from inside of the cabin?

As a TRD USA part, any SCION dealer should be able to get you the instructions if it shipped without any.

No clue... It was all done from the bottom side. The difference is huge though. I probably wouldn't want it any shorter. It's perfect

OrbitalEllipses 02-26-2014 08:31 PM

And you didn't take pics? For shame.
