Headers or Catback first?

Hey guys!

Got the mod bug on my car, and now I have a kind of chicken and egg question.

Do I get the OFH/OFT combo or do I get the Perrin 2.5" Resonated Catback first?

Any problems with modding the header without touching the rest of the exhaust line?

Just need experts' opinion on the question!

Cheers

OFH/OFT for real noticeable hp gains ;)

do you want power (header and flash) or sound (catback)?

I want both, but I prefer power first. So headers would be your suggestion then?

Definitely. I noticed the difference right away with the OFT. If I hadn't pre ordered headers back in December, I would have gone with the OFH.

Thanks guys, OpenFlash combo it is then! :)

Dip is gone with OFH and OFT stage2 - at least for me @ 93oct.

If you are banging through the gears at wot with this combo you only see sub 4k rpms for 1st and maybe 2nd gear. The rest stay above 5K ... you get to 100+mph in a hurry and still have 2 more gears to think about...
:burnrubber:

I did several more pulls tonight and I have to say - my little FR-S is turning into a beast. The FA20 engine sounds divine shifting out at 7K rpms to the next cog. If the car would have came from the factory like this, our little club would not be as exclusive as it is now :D

OFT+OFH!!! You will love it. If you have E85, it will be even better!

Unfortunately, E85 is almost impossible to find here. I'm stuck with 91/93 :)

Here is my $0.02...your warranty will most likely be affected by the tune should you have some issue I the future. If that possibility doesn't bother you, then headers and tune first. I was in the same boat and just did the catback first. I figure by the time I save up enough now for the header and tune my warranty will be almost gone and I won't worry about it.

OFH will make the stock exhaust sound much better. So OFT/OFH for both performance and sound. Then with Stage2 tune, add a good Cat-back and high-flow Front-pipe for more power and sound.

Yep, header and OFT are ordered. Now to wait and get a catback soon =)

Mad1723 02-27-2014 01:06 PM

They are still processing them in order of orders. They are ramping up the production, but you won't get it immediately.

Do the front / over pipe before the catback if your going in the direction of most power to least. As others said, the header alone will change the sound of the stock exhaust, as will the front pipe, (do the over pipe at the same time otherwise you are stepping down in diameter then back up.

If I were starting over with a stock car today I would do the catback last, instead of changing it 3 times like have done now. Stock car with catback is SOOOO much quieter than the same catback on a car with catless header, front pipe, and over pipe. It will be easier to judge what catback you want if you dial in the rest of the system first.

IMO of course :burnrubber:

Mad1723 02-27-2014 02:17 PM

Good advice. Any good catted frontpipe? Because I don't want to deafen the neighbors.
