Corsa cat back

1 Attachment(s)
I received my Corsa cat back for my FR-S yesterday, and I installed it last night. I was able to remove my oe exhaust and install the Corsa in about 1 hour and 10 minutes, with no help, from jacking to lowering to the floor. It was very easy to install, due in part to the two piece mid-pipe and the clamp on exhaust tips. The tips are clamped to the sides of the muffler, and this allows them to be adjusted up, down, left, and right. The two piece mid-pipe allows you to adjust the s-bend under the differential subframe as close (high) or as far (low) as you dare. The welds are great, the metal in the muffler and the resonator are beautiful, the piping is nothing special. It still has the manufacturer info on it. The one aspect that will be a turn-off to some people is the use of 4 clamps to connect the joints. The plus side to the clamps is the high degree of adjustability. BTW, I made up a rig using my bathroom scale to weigh the Corsa, then the stock. The Corsa was right at one pound lighter. I read on here it was supposed to weigh more, but it doesn't according to my scientific weighing! After installing it, I had my wife do a super short video of the exhaust before I lowered it back to the ground. It is very deep on start up and at idle. The video really doesn't do it justice. I love the sound of it. It sounded a bit tinny in the car, but behind the car it doesn't. I drove it about 20 miles last night, and liked it. After last night and two more heat cycles today, the exhaust is calming down on volume and is much less tinny in the car. What amazes me is how quiet it is when at a neutral throttle position at highway speeds. (55-80 mph) If you give it 1/2 to full throttle, you can hear it, but not for normal driving. It is even quiet going up shallow grades such as those on an interstate highway in most states. I am very pleased with the exhaust, and like that there aren't a bunch of them out there in use yet. It was delivered to my house for $817. I will attach two short videos, and one picture. In the picture the two piece mid-pipe is pushed together, but you can clearly see the two tips. The first video is of the stock exhaust, the second is of the Corsa. Forgive the quality, my wife took them for me, but they serve to highlight the difference in volume between the two systems. Like I said, don't judge the sound to harshly by this iPhone5 video.

First video is stock, second is Corsa

Can't wait to finally hear this/see it.

I took videos with iphone5, and cannot figure out how to convert them to a format that this forum will recognize. Apparently quicktime mov. format isn't common enough.

just upload the video to youtube and post the link into this thread.

Videos posted. The Corsa video I added above was taken immediately after install. The exhaust has really developed into a different sound with multiple heat cycles. It is taming a bit and really sounds fantastic now to me. I happen to love the equal length header sound, and I believe this exhaust will sound fantastic when i finally get a header.

Link didn't work for me, have to have permission to view. Also, do you have any pictures you could post of the exhaust installed??

This is par for the course with Corsa. They are very good at eliminating drone. I have a set of their axle-backs on my Mustang. Good stuff.

Looking to get the Corsa for my Whiteout. Anyone get the black tips? Thinking this may compliment the white paint really well.

looks great.

I ordered the Black Tips for my red BRZ. They were on backorder but got UPS notice they should be in tomorrow. I had these on my Corvette and loved them. Quiet for pleasure at highway speeds but a sweet sound when you push the throttle. I also heard good things (dyno and word of mouth) about the Corsa CAI. That should be here with the exhaust. I picked it over the Takeda. Time will tell.

i really like this exhaust, would be my second choice if i didnt have my perrin 3"

2016 Camaro SS 04-08-2015 04:01 PM

I'd consider this one too if I didn't have the Perrin 2.5" already. Corsa has always been a quality exhaust.

DAN_BRZ 04-08-2015 04:16 PM

i wish my perrin had polished tips like this. sexy as F@#$!!

Hi, Did you have any trouble with leaks where the joint clamps are? I installed mine yesterday and the clamps all seem to be leaking water a bit.

if its water its just condensation and nothing to worry about it

Maybe its because I'm young and obnoxious but I cant help to ask this question. I understand why people want a non-droney exhaust but why settle for something this tame? I feel like you wouldn't be able to notice a very significant difference between this and a TRD

How is this settling? Its a quality exhaust, with a great sound. The TRD, at least in Canada, costs the same as the Corsa.

Oh shit, that makes some sense then. The listing I was looking at on subispeed they were asking almost $200 more than the TRD (USD)

I will say that the Corsa does have nice tips. I've never been a fan of the awkward dorito TRD tips.

Used to be part of the loud exhaust crew when I was younger. It's fun, I get it, but when...
  • you don't want a cop to instantly look your way because he hears you coming
  • you can barely hear your back seat passengers/they can't hear you
  • no one really wants to ride with you because it's obnoxious
  • you can't sneak out of your house or to a chick's place at night
  • your girlfriend has to plug her ears to talk on the phone
  • you just want to drive and not deal with fuck wits trying to race you or fuck with you as you are cruising along
...all of that gets old fast and a little disheartening.

Some people dig that sort of shit and live it forever, I just grew out of it.

I get it if this isn't your DD, and you only drive it for fun, or if you solely autox/track/drag it.

For something you will be living with day in and day out, it's best to just get an exhaust that has minimal/no drone in the cabin, isn't stupid loud when you're just cruising along, and sounds great when you actually start getting on the throttle.

Quoted for truth. I once drove to work with a coworker who had a straight piped Evo X. It was awful. I felt like my brain was numb like 10 minutes into the drive. That was the big driving force for me to get something that's tame while cruising, but still makes some noise under WOT.

I can agree for sure. When I had taken my muffler delete off and ordered those new parts for my dealer to install it was a whole new world. I daily mine. I'm sure I'll literally grow out of it considering I'm only 18.
