Springs, Sway bars, Strut bar, what's next???
What is the next modif after this?
I want a go kart :D Do you think a rear strut bar is a good idea? But I don't want to have a bar in the trunk who make storage interference... Sometime i fit my mountain bike in the trunk... |
Adjustable shocks, bushings, underbody bracing, wheels and tires.
|
Already rack and pinion bushing :) it's a good start.
Am not ready for bushings yet... Too expensive for a minimal difference, correct me if am wrong. |
You'll get more difference replacing bushings than you will from strut tower bars (especially the rear since that doesn't effect the suspension geometry).
Beyond "a go kart", what are you trying to achieve? What tires are you running? Do you want street grip or track grip? What alignment specs are you running? What springs and sways? |
More camber, proper alignment settings.

Springs, Sway bars, Strut bar, what's next???

Mach V springs Whiteline rack and pinion bushing Whiteline rear 16mm sway bar with link and braces... Middle position Whiteline front strut bar Hotchkis front 25.4 mm sway bar soft position. The alignment is near to 0. I don't have any camber adjustment stuff yet. I will buy a new set of tires this summer, I do not kill the OEM tires yet. I want street tires more then track tires. |

You have it already? I think this topic will come interesting... |

if you're looking for that go-kart feel, then those 4 areas are a must. esp the rear crossmember mount, that has a lot of play. You can start by getting the whiteline inserts for that and work your way up. i'm holding off because i want to play in autocross c-stock class, but once i'm ready for STX those will be my first mods. |
Ok then I will check to place an order for the rear cross member bushing soon. It's just more difficult from my country to get a good deal because it's always a big shipping cost unfortunately...

You can get more extreme values with some eccentric bolts and/or top mounts. |
Rear strut mount is a waste.

Québec
|
Well, you can pick up the OEM crash bolts at any Scion or Subaru dealer, that'll save you some shipping fees. ;)
|
Quebec city, or just somewhere in the province? There's a good shop in Montreal I found a while ago, seemed to have good pricing at the time:

Yes I know already Perry :)... Need to check to get a quote on some products.

Then I just placed an order on it :) I hope this will make an huge difference like you say! |
it will, the first day or two it will feel amazing, then you'll forget you've ever done it, until you sit in someone's car that doesn't have it

Springs, Sway bars, Strut bar, what's next???
Haha thanks, I can't wait!
Do we need to add the differential bushing after this? |
yes, i would do the diff bushing after, in stages, so you can appreciate the improvements.
keep in mind though that if you get full replacements, the crossmember will have to come down completly or some trickery will be required to get the old ones out (a press is required) so best get inserts. also if doing yourself, do take care in installing the crossmember inserts because it is very easy to mis-align and strip the threads, then you'll be really fucked. after that i'd go for the engine and transmission mounts, which you should do in pairs, because stiffening one puts undue stress on the other. after that you can do sphearical top hats (camber plates) for the front after that you can start looking into upgrading the bushings on things like control arms.. but that's big money (cuz you need to disassemble, press, etc etc) |
Do you think we need to add any motor mount with the Whiteline positive shift kit bushing?
|
Bushings were one of the most immediately noticeable changes I made to my car. I have whiteline rear subframe inserts, differential inserts, and transmission insert. Second biggest change was getting a proper alignment by far. I went with 0 toe all around, as much negative camber as you can get up front (up to -2.5 or -3) and between -1.5 and -2 in the rear. After that, for feel, since you already have springs and sway bars, I'd recommend adjustable shocks, maybe even the non adjustable Bilstein B8's. Personally I'm getting a set of B14 coilovers soon. The rear strut bar is absolutely useless. Motor mounts are something I wish to try in the future, especially now that I am supercharged. :)
|
Do you see any problem to running the trany insert only, no more stress on the engine mount?
|
I've been running the transmission insert with stock motor mounts for over 10k miles now and have not noted any excess wear on those mounts, I'm under my car from time to time. Although I'll say that it does make sense to upgrade those too since the motor and transmission are literally bolted up to each other.

Finally, Whiteline KDT926 gearbox bushing, yes or no?
http://www.whiteline.com.au/product_..._number=KDT926 Or maybe kartboy??? |

For the diff bushing and rear subframe bushings, whiteline makes inserts that augment the regular bushings and lock everything down. Buy these instead of the complete bushings. The complete bushings will require disassembly and a press to remove and install. |
Ok,
I have a press but I prefer insert anyway, this is fast and easy to install and also less expensive. I just want to know if the trany insert really do a difference. |
I bought one, but it isn't installed yet. Once it thaws out I'll let you know how much of a difference it makes.

It absolutely does. There are a number of reviews on the forum that all pretty much say the same thing. There's a slight increase in NVH, but shifting is dramatically improved. Here's one thread with DIY install instructions and a brief review. Others post their experiences in the thread, and there are other threads that will come up on a search. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19782 Edit - Here's F1point4's car journal. He has links under his pictures for all of his mods and reviews, including the transmission bushing and rear shifter bushing, which is another mod you should do. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8295 |
Thank you, I have probably, already, read all posts concerning this topic, am just not sure. I will read again but anyway it's only a bushing not a supercharge, he will probably do what he is supposed to do :) make the shifting feeling better.

Springs, Sway bars, Strut bar, what's next???
Crossmember bushing check! I really love the feeling, I just drive from my friend garage to my house in the snowstorm tonight and I have already saw the difference. No more NVH I can confirm and the car stay comfortable anyway. I can't wait to feel the difference on the Tarmac...
Not difficult to install but like you say, you really need to take care when you remove bolts from the car chassis, they are supposed to be very easy to screw up but I got some troubles to rescrew one on the rear. Not stripped finally, but only more tight cause of some metal from the chassis hole come with the bolt during we unscrew them... Everything is fine now :) My Review here : http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60623 |

Whiteline positive shift kit check!
Review? :) I really love the feeling again, it's also perfect with the crossmember bushings. The shifter feel more confident and tight. You have now less movement in the shifter and you can change speeds more easily. Of course, you will get more NVH (because race car) at low speed but on the highway, it's not really noticeable and anyway if you have an exhaust... I have the TRD... you will be fine... Or if you listen music... It's really impressive to see with only few bushings, you can really improve the feeling of this car, I will say, if I resume all mod I have, springs, sways bars, strut bar... Bushings make all the biggest differences, trust me. Start with this and you will love it and save you money :) You can use this method below, it's pretty easy and quick to do and it's secure don't worry. You only need to jack the transmission about 2 or 4 mm maximum just to be able to insert the bushing... You will not broke anything. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26411 What's next? ;) |
HVT Camber plates will replace the rubber top mount with a solid piece and will give you some extra caster and adjustable camber.
Front control arm bushings will replace the rubber units with stiff poly. These would pretty eliminate all slop points in the front suspension. From there, you can start replacing the bushings in the rear suspension arms. |

Springs, Sway bars, Strut bar, what's next???
Who have the differential bushings kit? I want to know if this thing add More NVH? Maybe a little bit like the trany insert?
|
Anyone?
|
Bump, i want an opinion concerning Diff bushings please... Anyone?
|
I recently added the Whiteline diff bushings to my BRZ. I can feel the diff moving less than before, and just a little noise in 1st when going slow.
Engine mounts and trans mounts and shifter bushings will stiffen the rest up and get rid of that "soft" feeling when shifting. |
Finally :) :) Thanks for this quick review! Then no more NVH except in first gear, it's perfect! That will be my next step!
