Magnaflow catted/resonated front pipe
Magnaflow lists a replacement, direct fit cat for our cars. Thing is, it bolts in front to the overpipe, and in the rear to the midpipe. This makes it a front pipe i guess. Anyway, it has a high flow cat, and a resonator according to my email response from magnaflow. Cool, who knew? I know the nameless front/over is a great product, but this gives another option for somebody that may have already spent money on a different aftermarket overpipe. Part number is 51933 for 49 state version. It looks to be around $435 at some online retailers. I don"t know what msrp is, but it is reasonably priced for now. I've not seen a catted and resonated front pipe available outside of nameless, now that Perrin went green.

Bump. Does anyone have this front pipe? I'm searching for more pics besides this render...
http://b.cdnbrm.com/images/products/...flow_51933.jpg I want a 2.5" catted AND resonated front pipe. |
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/MagnaFlow-51933-Stainless-Catalytic-Converter/dp/B00AOKZB14/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1397526407&sr=8-1&keywords=Magnaflow+51933"]Amazon[/ame] sells it for $435, prime eligible. They use the same rendered pic though. GIS doesn't turn up anything real either, it's all CGI.
I feel like any decent muffler shop that sells Magnaflow could whip one up for you. Probably for about the same or less money. |
Hmm Amazon does have a pretty good return policy I'm just really suspicious since this has been available for a few months now and apparently nobody has bought it and no real pictures have surfaced.
|
I would like to know more about this as well, since the Nameless OP/DP combo won't fit RHD cars.
|
I'm interested as well. I also just got a coupon for 25% off Magnaflow parts on amazon.
|
|
This doesn't look like one of their high flow cats? Then again like said above, I would need to see an actual picture and not a rendering.
|
Why would the cat go from a 2.25" pipe to a 2.5" pipe? Especially as a lot of aftermarket overpipes are 2.5", that seems like an unnecessary restriction to go back down to 2.25".

So I just decided to call Magnaflow and see what was up with their front pipe and the Tech Line Specialist was happy to send me some pics of the real thing installed.

What do you guys think? |
Does Amazon's return policy cover used exhaust pipes in case you don't like it?
I'd be tempted. It's reasonably priced compared to other catted front pipes. |

You guys do know that nameless makes a standard front pipe only too. You can get it from them catted and resonated with a helmholz. It bolts to a standard overpipe. They call it their factory fit downpipe. With a helmholz resonator and 200 cell high flow cat it is $484.

My Lachute exhaust resonator on mid pipe and the actual canisters are Magnaflow and zero drone. So I can see this discussed piece being a good solution to taming down volume levels and likely for header folks eliminating rasp which for those that care is a win win. I'll be interested to hear results from folks as Headers is my next step while not wanting to increase annoying sounds and levels too much.
|
Looks like a pretty nice option; surprised there aren't more HFC front pipes with a resonator.

Oh, and the single piece has one less area to develop an exhaust leak at! Quote:

See below; strangely enough, no real pics of the production piece have surfaced yet. Quote:

Drat. I was hoping this thread bump would be your review of it.
|
I just ordered it from Stillen for $380 shipped with promo code MAGEXH13. The $90 in savings over Amazon convinced me to pull the trigger on it.
I'll post some pics and if everything looks good I'll install and review it on the car. Stay tuned. |

My front pipe arrived earlier today!
http://i.imgur.com/8qYFxNI.jpg I posted several more detailed pics and gave my initial thoughts in my build thread. |
Interested in your findings once the installation is done. I'm running the stock front pipe, and don't want it any louder. Please let us know any differences in sound.

Sadly your videos on youtube dont work anymore.
Would reupload them? I am quite interested in this frontpipe and would greatly appreciate a soundclip of it! |

Piping diameter was a bit smaller than expected, but not a big deal for me. |
I can report that this does not fit with AT cars. The pipe hits the atf pan.

New member here. I just ordered one of these to hopefully quiet down the exhaust that came with the car when I bought it. I'll post again after install with an update.
I got this piece for a good deal if anyone was looking - hottexhaust.com is running a 25% off sale right now. |

If you could do me a huge favor and measure the inside diameter of both ends of the pipe before installing?? They says its 2.25" on the cat side and 2.5" on the back end. If that's true it would be a deal breaker for me. Ive been looking for catted/resonated options for a while the only other one is the JDL UQFP. Thanks in advance if you are able to do that. |

Sorry I didn't check back before installing it just a couple hours ago. I'll jack up the car tomorrow night and get an OD measurement at each end.
I took some sound measurements with my phone before and after (with the back seat down) and there was a 4 or 5 peak dB decrease in normal driving. I still got almost the same dB level at WOT, especially towards the top of the rev range, but that may be more due to the supercharger than the exhaust. I may still want to quiet the car down some more, but boy was this a huge improvement! Now there is no risk of getting 'blatty' even at larger throttle inputs. It used to be almost impossible to not let the car sound too loud in my neighborhood, but now I can just drive normally and things don't get out of hand. Below are a couple before/after in-car videos. https://youtu.be/ARwVSuIp7WQ https://youtu.be/HmRpUmAGZYw |
