Tomei exhaust spring rattle

has anyone with one of the 3 Tomei exhaust's removed the springs?I have the type 60R and i can hear them rattle all the time and drives me nuts, not a huge rattle but i know its there and now its all i listen for haha.

I was thinking of wrapping them with Hi temp exhaust/manifold wrap, pretty stupid design, i took the springs off my tome exhaust on my evo, but there was only 2 of them compared to 4 on the Type 60R

Don't the springs allow the piping to flex? It is a full titanium exhaust after all.

no they don't

these little springs that "hold" the piping together, but the clamps are really good

Oh. can you possibly put a hi temp sleeve over them? something like these: http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...FeYDOgodEggA0Q

are they really that bad though? Can you post a vid? Just wondering because I am debating between the tomei 80r and perrin 3" still.

Doesn't it only rattle when you start up the car through cold start? Mine goes away after like 3-5 minutes of driving/exhaust warmed up.

Dunno if you can hear the rattle too much. This is the 60s with the front pipe.

Well that sounds like pure sex!

Erza_ft86 02-15-2014 12:03 AM

i have the tomei 60s with front pipe as well and it didnt rattle at first but now

it rattles all the time. I tried to pm ft86 speedfactory about this but jeremy

refused to help since I didnt purchase the exhaust from them? lol pretty

ridiculous if you ask me. Why be on these forums if they arent willing to share

and help other 86 owners which is the whole point of the forum.

@RallySport Direct on the other hand was very helpful and answered right

away. They recommended the heat wrap and also checking your springs so

they are furthest away from the pipe. I havent had time to try this yet but

Rallysport Direct has had these exhausts for a long time so im sure it will help.

The old Buddy Club spec 3 used a similar design (not sure about the spec 2). I took off the springs and heat wrapped the exhaust where the springs were....problem solved.

However, a year later those stupid springs rusted away (daily driven in crappy conditions).

BRZ NA 02-16-2014 06:54 PM

No rattle on my 60s.hope stay this way

SubaSteve 02-17-2014 11:35 AM

Double sided 3m tape underneath the spring should stop the rattle.

Ny Brz 02-17-2014 01:30 PM

Haven't heard any rattling, but then again it's to cold for me to stand outside to take any vids. To much snow going on over here can't wait for the warmer weather.

Doobster 02-18-2014 12:50 PM

I have the 80, The only rattle I got was the springs hitting the heat shield on the tank, I did some hammering and I haven't heard a rattle out if it since.

Anybody ran the exhaust without the springs? Just bought a Tomei 60R, owner had everything but the springs, installing this Sunday.

NLSP 07-02-2016 06:25 AM

I've run my 60S without the springs for 2 years and have had no issues or leaks.

saj 07-02-2016 08:35 AM

I've been running Type 80 for a month now, and I haven't noticed anything overtly annoying, but it is really thin titanium piping as well.

Ammunition 07-02-2016 06:00 PM

Aren't you supposed to install the springs so that they hook through from the inside (closer to the pipe), rather than from the outside-in as pictured on the image from RallySport Direct. I thought that I read somewhere awhile back that people were getting rattles from installing the spring that way (even though it seemed more intuitive to do so.)

I've had my Tomei 60S installed for over two years now without issue - I'll take a peak underneath my car when I get some to see what mine look like.
