Best 86 Review so far - by Nino Karotta

This video was posted a year ago, and I've watched so many reviews on youtube I don't know how I missed it until now. In case you guys missed it like I did - it's worth watching again although you already know everything about the 86 (if not just for the nice camera work).

PS - the orange 86 looks so nice in this vid.

Makes me want to buy another one as a DD.

Demandred7 02-10-2014 10:58 AM

Definitely one of my all time faves and probably the tipping point for me getting my FR-S.

FRSupra 02-11-2014 12:58 AM

I had not seen this yet, and it is by far the best video done on the 86. Bravo djmm.

DIF 02-11-2014 02:46 AM

Wow! After watching this I wouldn't mind buying one of them.

hotpanda1 02-11-2014 03:18 AM

great video!! thanks for sharing :)

humfrz 02-11-2014 03:25 AM

Oh ..... how I want to take my FR-S to Europe .....

LadyFRZ 02-11-2014 03:43 AM

As if I needed more reasons to absolutely love this car. :) Great review, thank you for posting.

chas3wba0 02-11-2014 04:23 AM

Wow, and I thought I'd seen them all. Nice one!

djmm 02-11-2014 04:46 AM

Funny how you guys also missed that review. It was posted a year ago and before I decided on 86 I thought I'd seen every single review on YouTube... lol
But yeah European has it good with the road and scenery combination... definitely looks like 86's natural habitat.

Carlitoz3 02-11-2014 05:24 AM

Remember to fuel up! Lol

Jdogg88 02-11-2014 10:46 AM

Made me fall in love with the 86 all over again

Frost 02-11-2014 11:08 AM

This is actually a repost but nonetheless an awesome video of the GT86/BRZ/FRS.

Yugimons 02-11-2014 11:35 AM

Actually I'm glad the post is here. I'm actually able to watch it through the player in the forum itself. Trying to load the video on the YouTube app on my phone gave me a message stating that the video is blocked in my country on copyright grounds... o_0

This one was good, but I think my favorite was the Irish guy test driving one at a dealership named Hughes. He was hilarious, and his joy and enthusiasm really stood out. I'm not sure where it is but if you google youtube hughes gt86 it might work.

iketeru 02-11-2014 04:58 PM

yeah, I watched the hell out of this video while waiting for my 86. agreed, a very well done review.

BRZnut 02-11-2014 09:17 PM

Reminds me once again why I bought my BRZ, and just how boring and awful the roads are in the Northeast.

bcj 02-11-2014 10:43 PM

heh.

"Must try harder"

headlikeahole 02-12-2014 12:10 AM

I remember watching this before I had mine. Then again after and laughing at how hard it was for him to get it to oversteer. The car must have been down on power from the altitude on some of those roads (maybe combined with hot temps). Because 2nd gear hairpins do not require the handbrake for hooning

:burnrubber:

The video does make clear the situational factors that feed into one's choices - I am sure if the environs around Toronto had roads like that I'd own one of these now, but endless straight grids make for a different equation for maximizing driving fun - there's less of a singular emphasis on handling, and power and tractability become more important.

Come to the Kitchener /Waterloo area where they have embraced the roundabout as world's best traffic management system.

This video helped me start using the term mini-GT when describing the BRZ. I've been on a dozen 8-10 hour drives with it and it's unexpectedly comfortable. Love this review.

Here is the irish guy review:

Yep, that's it. As good as I remember!

Yugimons 02-13-2014 02:45 PM

That Irish guys review was bloody awesome!

subwaynm 02-26-2014 10:57 AM

Great video that I hadn't seen until now. Confirms all of the reasons that I purchased my FR-S. Thanks for sharing it

buzznasa 02-26-2014 12:27 PM

I remember watching this video several times when it was first posted. Puts in such a mellow and nostalgic mood when "Girls" starts playing at the end of the video. Glad it was brought back up to the front page. Now I just want to go out driving and I just got to work. :(

Tromatic 02-26-2014 02:04 PM

Seems very odd to me that the people who get to drive cars that are mostly unobtanium for many love the FR-S, yet half the clowns here complain about it.

I am one of those who enjoys this car in stock form. I appreciate it for what it doesn't have and it's simplicity.
I think many feel the power doesn't match the looks.. or they don't like working the engine to make it go all the time..
This car offers lots of feedback, which some consider to be noise.. Lots of newbies getting into this car and not appreciating what they have and criticizing it for what it doesn't have..
Took me years to understand and appreciate a car like this.. Don't be so hard on them.. They will get it eventually..

fooddude 02-26-2014 03:15 PM

I like how he mentions modding to a shorter FD twice ;)

1ofaKind 02-26-2014 03:42 PM

Awesome video

Captain Insano 02-26-2014 04:26 PM

I'll have to watch this when I get home...

hanabie 02-26-2014 04:48 PM

even Logan loves this car! Nice review, Logan!

JDMenrique 02-26-2014 08:20 PM

That was a pretty sick video

FRSure 02-26-2014 08:52 PM

Excitement down to the "pubic hair." Lol.

PMok 02-26-2014 09:39 PM

LOL great stuff, then and now. If I recall right, one way to pull up this guys other car reviews is to search for "Hungarian Wolverine" on Youtube hahaha.

whtchocla7e 02-26-2014 10:08 PM

This video made me go and put a deposit down for the Hot-Lava 1.5 years ago.

It's been an adventure ever since.

Except, I don't have the same beautiful scenery around here.. or maybe I do? Only one way to find out :)

You will learn to look for the twisty routes on the GPS (just about the only use I have for this Nav unit)
You will learn to love Bayview Extension more than the DVP.
You will love going up Leslie and Don Mills instead of the DVP.
You will look forward to snowy commutes.
You will learn to dodge potholes with alacrity.
You will find yourself mentally measuring the size and smoothness of industrial area parking lots and shopping mall parking lots.
You will make note of them, and remind yourself to come back when these playgrounds are deserted.
You will look forward to taking the car to a track (something I've yet to do)

You will thank yourself later.

But yes, you will continue to be immensely jealous of the people who have access to the Pacific Coast Highway, or lovely southern European roads, or twisty Japanese mountain roads.

D88 02-27-2014 02:12 AM

I had to watch this again. Such a great vid!
