Hit a Raccoon at 80!

Driving home on I-485 from a buddies at like 11:00 I was cruising and saw a big ol looking raccoon or possum or something. By the time I saw the damn thing running across the road there was nowhere to go!

The car just about popped up in the air and I heard quite the wallop as I can only assume the carcass dragged across the lower engine cover, or worse, the wheel well. Idk I guess. I drove the remaining 2 miles home, expecting the worse, blown tire, big dent, dead raccoon in the engine bay.

But lo and behold, I cannot for the life of me find any damage!?

Anyone know of anything I should be wary of? Damage I may have caused? File w/ Insurance just in case? I hit that son of a gun HARD...

Poor little guy (My car, not the animal) :bonk:

check your axels .... if you have guts wrapped around anything you will smell it when it starts to warm up.

I wish that on no one ever

Lightning red BRZ -- guess the blood is all just mixed in with the paint. Adds character IMO :party0030:

But thanks guys, yea Ill check the axles and I'll go spray out the underbelly of the car just to be sure. Dodged a bullet on this one (but not so much the raccoon...)

Check your AC condenser, usually that's the first thing to go when hitting an animal.

check your headlight fluid and mufffler bearings. If they are out, order a set from Toni and he will overnight them in 9 separate packages for you

I hit a pheasant driving about 80 mph in Kansas. Looked in the rearview, saw an explosion of feathers in mirror, but strangely no bird. Continued for another 10 miles before I decided to pull over and check my car. Turns out the SOB's legs caught onto the bottom of the car and I essentially sanded him down to a bloody pulp.

ugh. Once in my lowered truck, i hit a turtle crossing the highway...poor bastard. I was too low for it to go under, so it wedged between the road and my from bumper, sanded his body down until it cracked and guts/shell bounced up into the front engine bay....cooked that shit and man was it an awful smelling mess, took forever to clean up, and in the end bits and pieces just kind of cooked off the engine over the course of a week or two, stunk to high hell.

"Now the doctor came in stinking of gin
And proceeded to lie on the table
He said Rocky you met your match
And Rocky said, doc it's only a scratch
And I'll be better I'll be better doc as soon as I am able"

Seriously though hope everything is okay!

I bet the blinker fluid has gone dark now and the muffler bearing is gone. Replace both ASAP.

Whew. You just saved my behind on that one. Apparently that's why I wasn't having those taillight condensation problems! All my lighting assemblies were bone dry! Fixed it by peeing in both taillights! Everything looks great thanks!
