Do our Scion Toyota 86 have a cabin air filter ?

Hey guys do you know if our car does have a cabin air filter filtering air coming from the outside? cause whenever I don't push the air recycle button, it's like the air from the outside it's not being filtered. Maybe the deal forgot to add it on the pre inspection . any ideas? it should come like all cars with an activated carbon air filter.
tnx

Yes it's behind your glove box. Review your manual :)

Yup I knew about that filter it's for AC. I know some cars do have an external activated carbon filter.. do you know if the glove box filter it's the only one ? :)

That's the only one that I know of.....:)

The one behind the glove box IS the cabin filter.

So that filter should filter all the air from the outside? cause I didn't feel it was in fact filtering any odors. when the button was set no to recycle the inside air.

A cabin filter doesn't get rid of odors, just dust...

dssence 02-02-2014 02:37 PM

well I know most expensive cars do have an active carbon filter which filters odors as well , not sure about scion or subaru but they should.

I drive a 2011 M3 and it doesn't filter odor, neither does my mother's lexus. :iono:

Wow damn so I would one of the fewest persons on earth which modded my old toyota celica 79 with an external carbon active filter. on the outside. Filters every single odor from the outside. I thought these cars even expensive ones did have an external filter on the outside.. not talking about the AC filter.

Nothing will filter a skunk lol. Not sure I've ever been concerned otherwise of outdoor smells. :)

I've never heard of that either. Where I live, even if our filters did filter out odor, there's no filtering these dairies!

Most of the odors in my car originate inside the cabin. Just keepin' it real.

I know some of Lexus and Toyota models have an upgraded cabin filter with the charcoal in the filter. You should see if Toyota has one that fits the FR-S. I know it does cost a lot more then the usually one. Last one I bought from Lexus was $35.

The normal cabin filter does not eliminate odor.
How ever, Toyota does provide a a carbon version of the cabin filter that is supposed to eliminate, if not, get lessen the odor.

I have it on my 2010 Corolla, and it helps... some what.

*when you press recycle... the cabin filter is filtering already filtered air.... which further eliminate some odor.

*Also, can someoen clarify this, IIRC, the non-AC air, (when AC is not activated) the air is not filtered. It simply allow heated air from outside to enter the car. Read that somewhere, but can someone more experienced in car HVAC system chime in?
