It be crooked mang

When I'm going 139 and it starts pulling I'll let you know

raytrix 02-01-2014 11:46 PM

Did they include a reinforcement plate for the underside of your trunk? Seeing that it's center mount I'm hoping it won't warp your trunk.

Wow a constructive comment. Thanks!

Good thought. The wing is very light, trunk lifters have no trouble. I didn't think of that but will look into it. Quite frankly I got the trunk just for this wing and if it warps so be it, but since the mounts go over the back Ridge it is pretty sturdy. If it were a carbon trunk I would be more concerned.

I'll keep an eye on it and report, for now seems solid.

All brackets are FRP.

RojerLockless 02-02-2014 12:20 AM

Why is it crooked?

KONVERTER 02-02-2014 12:37 AM

Pretty sure that is just a weird photo angle.

I think Raytrix might be referring to reinforcement in order to maximize any downward pressure the wing may produce instead of just flexing on the trunk and "wasting" any useful downforce.

Actually if it was a carbon trunk it would be even better at providing a stiffer platform for a big wing to work effectively.

By the way, I like your car...looks good with the black wheels and toms taillight on WRB.

I'll look into it. The mounts seemed quite stable, I'll play around with them and see if I notice any flex on the trunk.

humanshield 02-02-2014 02:21 AM

first WRB i think the Toms look good on. but back on topic. the wing looks good. just need some more front downforce to match the rear downforce. otherwise you'll get some lift and that would be bad. keep us posted (those that aren't here to make stupid "ready for take off?" comments).

Definitely planning on a splitter or canards and or both in the front. Took 3 months to get this wing, and then it sat in my office for a month so I'll get to that stuff eventually!

Suggestions on canards and splitter are appreciated.

FRSfan111 02-02-2014 02:29 AM

I prefer apr splitter. View the link in my sig for pics if you want.

I like your car. Apr definitely looks good.

Will look into getting that most likely.

Extra desktop space is always a plus...

KONVERTER 02-02-2014 04:40 AM

Well I just went out to the car and shoved down on the front of the brackets and I couldn't get the trunk to flex much at all. Addition of a under bracket won't do much except add weight if anything.

The brackets are quite wide on this wing as on others I have seen only have half the width.

raytrix 02-02-2014 01:00 PM

Mounting location is critical. This guy in the picture put a universal Origin wing that didn't really fit the car at the proper mounting locations. As you can see it was not close to the ends of the trunk where that is a the stiffer part of the trunk since it sits on the edge of the chassis there. This guy said that after driving the car one day his entire trunk has ripples on it and it's warped where the wing sits on the trunk surface. If you look closely it's not mounted near the edge of the trunk either, instead it's on a nice open flat surface of the trunk which is a thin sheet metal. Most wing companies that make a specified wing for this car either has the wing mounted at the very side edges or very close to the center of the trunk and wrapped around the edge. For sure keep us updated of any warping issues you see with your center mount setup.

Here's an example of a reinforcement plate you can make or design for trunks. The S2K center mount wings require this so when the wing starts pulling or pushing on the trunk that it'll spread out the load more evenly than if it was straight at the base of the wing mount.

Thanks for the info...

One of the reasons I went with this wing was the mounting base, how it wraps around the back of the trunk. It may be a center mount wing, but it is not putting all the weight on flat sheet metal but uses the bend of the trunk which is much stronger... That part doesn't seem to flex to me...

But we will see...

Many reasons why I didn't go with a universal wing and for something that had specific mounts for this car.

(That wing above looks like it is a bit heavier with metal brackets etc).

Thank you and will do!

raytrix 02-02-2014 03:09 PM

You did the right thing and went with a legitimate wing that was designed for the car vs universal. I just want to see some feedback from people finally that has the balls to drop money on a nice wing. Any feedback will definitely help others in the future that plan to buy this particular wing.

KONVERTER 02-02-2014 05:30 PM

The kit was alright. I had a bit of a problem with some supplied hardware. The button end bolts for the side fins are listed as M5 and that is what was included, but the inserts were M4 size so I needed to get the smaller bolts. One of the inserts popped out and fell into the wing. We had to fish it out with a magnet and get creative when getting the fin bolted on. Ended up going on well and was able to be torqued down properly.

Besides that no issues at all with the kit.

The instructions are available on the blitz site, they basically just say what comes in the kit in Japanese. Would be nice if there was a template for placement but there isnt.

Functionality I couldn't tell you just yet... but I definitely feel it on the butt dyno! Haha

Jesus that thing is HUGE. To each their own, and I totally respect others tastes, but that thing looks completely disproportionate in my opinion.

Looking at the pictures they do make the wing look HUGE. It is not wider than the car... Will bring the car to the local meet and let one of the photographers take some photos.

your gt wing

Your car looks sick bro. You had the balls to do it your way and that is what matters. You are not running like Tom **** & Harry all the same like the crowd.:party0030:.

Mr. Yolo is back!!! Was this the same exact wing you had on your Camaro?

KONVERTER 02-05-2014 12:49 PM

Took the car for a long drive the other night to clear my mind. 300 miles mostly freeway but some canyon....

Car is like 100000 times faster! Best gain for horse power! I actually think this car will out run my daily driver V6 grocery getter honda in a straight line!

In all seriously... The POS Stance suspension I have on this car (will be changing next) makes this car ride so ridiculously rough. Above 60MPH to my surprise the ride smooths out now. I was completely shocked and this has to be from the addition of the wing. On long sweeping freeway turns I don't feel like the rear end is going to kick out anymore.

I love the aggressive look, and I feel this wing is definitely functional.

Wish I had this though...

Looks good. Doesn't matter what anyone else says. Just remember you are one of the few people with a baller Blitz wing.

CSG Mike 02-05-2014 01:11 PM

Who manufacturers this wing for Blitz? The base plate is the only portion that looks like it's customized specific to the car. Any CFD data?

KONVERTER 02-05-2014 01:14 PM

Not sure. The base plates are FRP painted black. The stands are some kind of metal but very light, my guess is aluminum.

This wing was nearly 10% of the car! I am thinking of ordering a backup :D

Mr. 02-05-2014 01:21 PM

GJ F dem haters (hot lava paint code H8R) I love GT wings.

GT Wing

I have a Motor Sports carbon fiber GT wing on my FRS and on picture the wing does not do justice. I have people rolling there eyes when they see my FRS giving me thumbs up and saying the wing looks sick with the car. The point is you make the car to your taste and character. This is a import car so the gt wing is appropriate. I see no point on putting the stock wing that first has no functionality and second is hardly visible.:party0030:
