More amateur drifting!

After a surprise return to messin' with drifting mechanics during a snow outing a few weeks back, during a mall trip today with the roommate it once again reared its terrifying head.

is your traction off?

NickFRS 01-31-2014 06:37 PM

Looks like your driving really fast in big circles. http://www.speedhunters.com/wp-conte...events-211.jpg

erom 01-31-2014 06:37 PM

Yea traction is off. I still have a lot of bugs to work out.

erom 01-31-2014 06:40 PM

Basically look at the back wheels lockin' out during a few turns ; it's fun.

FReSh 01-31-2014 06:44 PM

Next time, apply a more generous amount of throttle while the tires are squealing mid-turn... That'll make things more interesting :)

This.

Also flick the steeringwheel and hit the throttle,

erom 01-31-2014 07:04 PM

Well I think I totally get the physics of this so it's just a matter of practicing the execution.

It makes sense to lock the wheels going into a turn, since additional forward kinetic force is useless ; therefore you transition into wanting to gain movement from matter alone while you attempt to fully change the direction of said matter (the mass of a vehicle in this case) while also attempting to regain kinetic motion in the next directional pattern.

Manic 01-31-2014 07:47 PM

... or you could kick the clutch?

EZWood 01-31-2014 08:00 PM

This reminds me of urkel busting out the Ruler and notepad to calculate where to hit the cue ball, minus the results. I highly recommend watching the drift bible, its on YouTube. Also start small with doughnuts and not going so fast in the snow unless you want to slide into a curb or lightpole.

erom 01-31-2014 08:04 PM

The results will be in the next set of videos.

dphan 01-31-2014 08:11 PM

so much space without poles! practice doing figure 8's on a skidpad first.

NickFRS 01-31-2014 08:12 PM

If I was you "since it seems you don't know how to drift" try learning each gear as you go.... so you don't lose it at 40mph flip backwords and roll into something. Learn to drift in 1st. Then 2nd. Then 3rd. Then 4th.

ppl drift in 4th? O.o
thats some hellish speeds if you stay in the powerband haha

erom 01-31-2014 08:31 PM

Gears

Yea this is all in 1st, and 2nd, I think I've done a few in 3rd so far.

Thornley 01-31-2014 09:05 PM

enough with the physics of it. Get out and feel for it

erom 01-31-2014 11:49 PM

yea that feelin' while the car is in its drift...that's real life.

DR 86 02-01-2014 10:20 PM

I don't see any drifting. Am I missing something?

Ash.B 02-01-2014 10:44 PM

handbrake testing :D

N_A 02-01-2014 11:54 PM

Is that Willowbrook mall? I used to live in Jersey 10 years ago. Lol.

hold the triton button for 3 seconds

BlueDubbinTDI 02-02-2014 05:45 PM

Looks like fun. I'd set up cones next time

erom 02-04-2014 02:12 AM

Willowbrook MALL!

erom 02-04-2014 02:13 AM

There is def. a drift in there...where the car is basically moving directional mass without direct kinetic force input. It's not overt but it's there.

boredom.is.me 02-04-2014 05:55 AM

There was an occasional snap oversteer...but no slideways action at all. Enough with the "kinetic force input" shit. Slow down and do a few doughnuts or something. Your video reminds me of the "hits only pole" videos.
