Nissan Sentra Nismo Concept. Your thoughts?

Looks pretty cool. 240HP and supposed to compete with the Focus ST and GTI

This does look awesome, but I'm sure the production version will be an extremely dumbed down version of this lol.

I'm still waiting for the new 240sx successor

Every time I see the Sentra, I see the Lexus HS250.
Not sure if that's a backhanded compliment.

m.box.design 01-31-2014 03:21 PM

definitely a good direction for performance and looks. the sentra was getting realllly boring. i rented one on a trip last year, styling and cvt made it so unlikeable.

driftartist 01-31-2014 03:23 PM

the sentra had it right with the 90s se-r then they screwed it ll up by making it big and fat. i have lost faith in nissan

Dipstik-sportech 01-31-2014 03:26 PM

Ugh torsion bar rear suspension. Gggaaayyyyeeeee

The Frozen North

rice_classic 01-31-2014 03:40 PM

I *like* fwd cars. But with a caveat..

I like double arm suspension, a shorter wheel base and less weight.

This car has Macs up front, torsen in the rear, a long wheelbase and is >2800lbs. If I needed a 4 door FWD car, this would not be it. Would rather have Mazda3/Mazda6.

I think the IDx is the best we're gonna get, unfortunately .... well that and a slightly smaller Z in 2015/2016. Personally, I would have rather seen an S16 than them bringing the 510 back, but I'm still interested in this IDx. I would love to see a really stripped down, light 240z-ish new Z, but I think the new Z will still be on the same platform, so it's probably not going to be all that different :/

2017 Nissan Sentra Nismo With 188HP 1.6 Turbo Looks Like A Good Start

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbk_5LHjlg4"]2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO - YouTube[/ame]

Quote:

If you've been waiting as we have for Nissan to come out with a Nismo version of the Sentra, you can stop waiting, because here it is. But if you were hoping for a swell of power, you might be a little disappointed.

Revealed today at the LA Auto Show, the 2017 Sentra Nismo packs a 1.6-liter turbo four. It employs 16 valves, dual overhead cams, direct injection, variable valve timing and oil pressure, and spray-coated and mirror-finish cylinder bores to deliver 188 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque.

Those are the same exact specs as the Juke Nismo, but unfortunately fall short of the more potent, 215-horsepower Juke Nismo RS. So we'll still keep our fingers crossed for a Sentra Nismo RS as well.

Adequate or not, the muscle is transmitted to the front wheels through either a six-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission. The suspension is made up of independent struts up front and a torsion beam out back, with stabilizer bars at both ends and monotube rear shocks. It's been recalibrated by Nismo, along with the electronic power steering system and upgraded front brakes.

The whole thing rides on 18-inch alloys, which complement the enhanced appearance and aero package. There front, rear, and side panels have been upgraded to not only give it a more aggressive look, but reduce lift by 30 percent at the rear end. Black and red trim help reinforce that this is no ordinary Senta, helped by the proliferation of Nismo logos inside and out.

The performance treatment continues inside with better-bolstered front seats, leather- and Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, and more. Red-trimmed charcoal is the only color in which the interior is available, while buyers will be able to choose between silver, dark grey, black, or white.

Unfortunately performance figures and pricing/availability information have yet to be released, but we'll be keeping an eye out for those as soon as they are – so watch this space. From what we're seeing so far, though, the 2017 Nissan Sentra Nismo is already looking down on power compared to prospective rivals like the new Hyundai Elantra Sport – let alone benchmark hot hatches like the Ford Focus ST and Volkswagen Golf GTI.

If Nissan can get the price down below, however, the Sentra Nismo may open up a new class a step below to bridge the gap.

The "lipstick on a pig" idiom comes to mind.

Was anybody actually waiting for this?

This is a classic example of why people should not put so much faith in what a concept starts out as is what will be delivered. The 2014 concept specs and the 2017 "release" specs are in two totally different worlds. Even the looks are miles apart.

Good to see somebody follows the clickbait sites to bring us such info though.

At least you know it won't hit anything.

Still a dull car. Not quite as dull as a base Sentra, but not enough of an improvement to turn it into something fun. TBH, it really dilutes the 'Nismo' name.

Man those tires are SKINNY.

When will automakers learn that no one wants less than 200hp?!??!?!

In this case, with a car that weighs close to 3000 pounds, 188 bhp out of a turbo 4 is pretty uninspiring, especially from a manufacturer's performance division.

Summerwolf 11-16-2016 11:49 AM

Like most Nissan products, this will probably be available for 50% of its original price tag in 2 years and it will still be pretty weak even then!

Nissan tries hard, but just never seem to hit the mark anymore.

86Boyz 11-16-2016 12:03 PM

They still haven't made this thing???

The way these specs look, the car is about the same performance as the base Juke, which I drove quite alot a couple years ago. that thing was the same engine and same weight and honestly felt kinda peppy around town , up to 35 or 40, but that was about it.

2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO Highlights and Walk Around

funwheeldrive 11-16-2016 04:25 PM

Do they no longer have the SE-R trim?

Now that we have the Nismo Juke and Nismo Sentra, the Nismo name seems very watered down.

WolfpackS2k 11-17-2016 03:02 PM

Correct, there is no SE-R model. Even so, the last SE-R model available was forgettable.

And yeah I agree. Nissan is doing a great job of destroying whatever street/track cred they ever had with their Nismo brand.
